DH says I am really strange. Am I? Or are there fellow strange ones?

I just admitted to DH that I really rather like the sound of sirens in the distance and find the way the sound rises and falls quite satisfying, even soothing. Is this really so strange? He says it is.

Obviously when they are ear-shattering they're horrible but far away it's quite reassuring noise, isn't it?

Or am I mad?

I love smells like barbecue..and popcorn or candy floss..good times [smiles]

TimeForABrew · 08/10/2010 22:57

YANBU, I like the sound sirens make just before they stop, the "WHIRR OOoo" sound.

I also like the soft "wumph" within explosions, noticed that in the Banderas Zorro sequel rather than in RL, and the tinkling sound of breaking glass - maybe I was a crim in a past life?

TheBreastmilksonme, I love the sound of a train in the distance too.

Mumcentreplus · 08/10/2010 23:00

I can smell snow hours before visual signs that it's on it's way. It smells coppery/metallic, like a newly minted coin.

TheMulledBloodsOnMe · 09/10/2010 22:43

Mumcentre- I can feel the electricity from a TV or a PC if it is supposed to be off but is on standby without seeing any lights or switches. It makes me wonder what negative effects electricity might have on us?

MistsAndMellow · 09/10/2010 22:46

You absolute weirdos Grin

Only joking. I can sense snow too. It's something in the air.

Sorry for my maudlin post last night Hmm

mumeeee · 09/10/2010 22:54

YABU, I don't like the sound of sirens. So yes I agree with your DH that does sound a little bit strange

BeenBeta · 09/10/2010 22:54

Mumcentreplus/The Mulled - I really didnt think anyone else could do that. DW says I'm weird because a soft blue electrical light comes out of my fingers and a quiet buzzing noise at night and lights go off near me and I can sense cables and stuff underground. I hate standing anywhere near electric pylons or cables because the elctrical presence is so high. I definitely think it has a negative effect.

Sirens and helicopters set me right on edge though - not sure how that could ever be restful or relaxing or reassuring.

Lynli · 09/10/2010 22:56

YABU,

Emergency services are justified in using siren when there is a mortal danger

That sound says some on is injured or being attacked.

What is there to like about that?

Mumcentreplus · 09/10/2010 22:57

I am not alone!!!

MistsAndMellow · 09/10/2010 22:57

BeenBeta perhaps the simple answer is that you are a Marvel / DC comic character?

BitOfFun · 09/10/2010 22:57

I like it. I imagine I live somewhere in a movie, like downtown LA.

Mumcentreplus · 09/10/2010 22:59

welcome to the electrical influence club Beta..Grin

BeenBeta · 09/10/2010 23:02

Mumcentreplus/The Mulled - wow I feel so normal now. Grin

I live in quite a rural area (surrounded by trees, deer in the garden etc) but I am a city girl and I have said to Mr Ratherbe that I don't understand why, when you can buy relaxation CDs of rain and waves and forest noises, you can't buy ones of city noise eg traffic, air brakes, people.

Mumcentreplus · 09/10/2010 23:14

Yes @ connie I feel it all over like a buzz and when i walk around shops I always get a shock or 2 at least ..never really thought about it till now.. its quite normal to me I suppose..

Explains how Brian Kennedy used to harmonise to sound of the sirens, You may have some hidden talent LDR Wink

LadyOfTheFlowers · 09/10/2010 23:21

It just makes me think of people who are dying or in trouble. Hmm

LadyOfTheFlowers · 09/10/2010 23:23

I can also see the flipside where you might think of people coming to help, but immediatetly, I think 'Get out the way, let the pros through to help the needy people'

esti1 · 09/10/2010 23:23

i can smell snow or rain, i get a headache before a storm and i can smell my child will be unwell before she shows symptoms, i like sireens in the distance as it reminds me that other poeple are living different lifes. i hate helicopters as it reminds me of war and makes me anxious. Love fog horns and seeing aerolane trailes in the sky. when my mum passed away my dog had an epileptic sizure at the very moment...now that is strange

Mumcentreplus · 09/10/2010 23:28

esti1 I get storm head-aches too! esspecially after warm weather...its like i can feel the rain heavy in the clouds ready to fall...

esti1 · 09/10/2010 23:30

it makes me feel so ill mumcententreplus some times worse than a migrain.

JaneS · 09/10/2010 23:38

Ooh, I love the turn the thread's taken! We should all get together, we'd make one very strange superhero.

I love the smell of snow before it snows - but I only notice it when I've already seen clouds that look snowy, so not really special!

canyou - ahh, it'll just be one of my many hidden talents then. Wink.

I'm about as musical as a brick.
