Im on 28K my DH on around 35K. we own our flat (mortgage) and have a 6 months DS (with childminder)
Both DH or I think we should not apply for child benefit as we believe we are doing well without it, and there other people out there who may need it more.
AIBU to wish that many more people would think like us?

Totally agree.

I am also really confused about how one claims HB they don't really need. I work for minimum wage and my HB doesn't cover barely a third of my extortionate rent. How in the name of arse can you use it on holidays instead of rent? Hmm

OP go give your self a huge smug pat on the back for being so great.

JetLi · 06/10/2010 21:48

Mil - your baby was 7 months in August on a previous thread here Confused

MilMae · 06/10/2010 21:50

seems like according to some people I should be claiming (and using) what I dont need....
Im proud of not needing it at the moment. thank you. and there is nothing smug about it.

YABU.

you aren't helping those poor unforutnates by not claiming.
the money wont go to someone less wealthy.

If you would like to do some good then claim it and then pass it on to a charity

MilMae · 06/10/2010 21:51

jetli - good research! you should get a medal for that!!

Yeah but if DS's age is a big fat fib, then what else are you fibbing about?

verytellytubby · 06/10/2010 22:02

God I'm so sick of the child benefit posts. Yes well done.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 06/10/2010 22:02

yes but it matter to us you see. how very unfair on the poor boy, first his missing out on his CB, now his mum cant remember his age Grin

verytellytubby · 06/10/2010 22:02

Donate it to charity Grin

MilMae · 06/10/2010 22:03

Weirdo...

tethersend · 06/10/2010 22:19

I think claiming CB for a child who doesn't exist is probably a very good idea, so in that sense OP, YANBU.

MollieO · 06/10/2010 22:23

OP I would claim it as clearly both DC and GO are keen for you to have it. Grin

Contrast that with me (single parent in HRT bracket) clearly neither DC or GO want to help despite the fact that I earn a lot less than your household income.Confused
