Tesco + Aberdeen + Ocyober =...

No little girl's vests.

Now, I know the general consensus on Mumsnet is that children don't wear vests.

Well, MY children do. We live in Aberdeen. Its cold. Often and for a very long time. They ASK for them.

Just notices DD1 (aged 6) and DD2 (age 4) haven't got many vests that fit them for the coming autum/winter season. So, when in tesco this morning I was going to re-do their entire vest wardrobe.

Its a HUGE Tesco Megaplex.

not a SINGLE little girl's vest. They had bro top sets for older girls, and they had baby body suits, but not a single pack, in any size or in any design of girls' vests.

Normally we have problems with shops over anticipating the next seaon (no swimsuits by july, no winter coats available in january because they are on to summer stock...)but most people buy at supermarkets for "now" (they aren't generally fashion buys or investment buys), and its OCTOBER. In Aberdeen...!

Letter or phone call to Tesco or not bother....?? (I got some in Asda, full range of sizes and designs...)

YABU - I hate that Tesco is taking over the shopping universe!

It's Aberdeen, not Outer Mongolia - from my recollection, there is no shortage of other shops there...Go on, live a little.

Aberdeen + October = Toasty Grin

angelbabe1982 · 05/10/2010 13:13

I was going to say Bathsheba (ace name BTW) try Inverurie Tesco as I picked up vests for my DS yesterday and they had loads in all sizes, but noticed you got some in Asda.
Would probably email Tesco just to let them know how disappointed you are that they seem unable to cater for you - word it well and you will maybe get a voucher/moneycard from them Wink, I got a £20 one for complaining about a Tesco van in a P&C space (not starting that argument though!!)

BessieBoots · 05/10/2010 13:17

Just wanted to add- My children wear vests too :)

Mine are in vests too. Grin I'm in Edinburgh.
I bought loads of vest from Primark, do you have one up your way?

crisproll2 · 05/10/2010 17:04

My DS is in vests too. Do you have a Next Directory? They do packs of vests. Am in Scotland too and am just beginning to shiver!!

Bathsheba · 05/10/2010 18:44

Thank you everyone.....We do have lots of other shops but I really wanted to just pick them up in the supermarket - its a bit of a manic week and we are off on holiday on Saturday...and everyone needs new vests for their holidays...

I did find them in Asda, in the right size and everything....then I found DD1 was quite sparse in "right size" knickers.....so by this point I had lost the will to live and I just ordered them from next....

Considering tesco sell about 5 million other things known in the universe, I wouldn't bother too much about vests.

There's no Adams here anymore zukiecat, it went about a year and a half ago.

AvadaKedavra · 05/10/2010 19:03

(just in case anyone was going to make a special trip!)

ratspeaker · 05/10/2010 19:16

SacharissaCripslock where's the nearset primark, I keep hearing about them but never found one round here

Bathsheba why not email Tesco Customer Services and point out their ommision?
Of course it could be that the nights fair drawin' in has made all the mums think about warm winter clothing so they sold out quickly

ShadeofViolet · 05/10/2010 19:23

Whats wrong with vests Shock

larakitten · 05/10/2010 20:17

Hey, I'm in Aberdeenshire and went into said GINORMOUS tescos over the summer hols looking for slippers for my DD. Apparently slippers are "seasonal". I appreciate it was summer but I wear slippers all year round, as does DH as we have wooden floors. But according to the gospel that is Tesco, my DD should get freezing feet, stubbed toes and splinters. Bah.

Glad you got your vests. DD also wears them....and indeed has been known to wear them over the freezing blistering season that is Summer......

Bathsheba · 05/10/2010 20:21

Larakitten - there is basically about 3 weeks in July that my girls take their vests off...

I'm actually seeing it as good for the future...a form of contraception when they are teenagers...

Mowiol · 05/10/2010 20:30

Contraception -lol The good old Scottish summer!

My MiL asked me if I was going to wear a vest under my wedding dress - and she was perfectly serious. I didn't.

backwardpossom · 05/10/2010 21:42

They'd ran out of them in Elgin in my DS's size too. Got some in Asda. :-)

backwardpossom · 05/10/2010 21:43

BTW I'm pretty sure Adams went out of business (although still trade online). The Adams in Elgin closed about 3 years ago.

Tokyotwist · 05/10/2010 21:47

YABU, for living in aberdeen.

hobnob57 · 05/10/2010 21:51

I couldn't find girls' tights in Tesco either a couple of weeks ago. And all their summer clothes are way too optimistic up here. Where are the cardis when you need them?!

TooImmature2BMum · 05/10/2010 21:53

Is Primark no good? I am in Edinburgh and still jealous that my old stomping ground (Aberdeen) has a Primark for cheap everything and we don't have one in the capital city.

backwardpossom · 05/10/2010 21:55

Yeah, what is the problem with vests?
