to be absolutely furious with ******* mothercare??

i am so angry and disapointed with mothercare. i bought a phil and teds vibe just over 8 months ago (has only been used for 6 months) and this is the third time i have had to take it back for it to be 'repaired'! both times previously these 'repairs' have each taken 28 days, so in total it has only been used for 4 months :(

in total with all accesories i paid close to £1000 for this pram. within the first two months of using it the front wheel went wonky at the front and it became impossible to push. i returned it to the store and they tried to imply that maybe i had exceeded the weight limit for the pram. hilarious that, as my dcs were 14months and 2 months!! they sent it off for repair leaving me without a buggy for 28 days, as they had no spare double. i had to buy a cheap secondhand one.

a month later the same thing happens again, yet this time i was visiting friends by train and alone, without the car, with my two dc and with a pram impossible to push. it was a nightmare. i had to phone dh to come and get us, which cost more money in petrol and wasted train tickets, plus lots of stress. also the bumper bar jammed and would not come off, so the doubles kit could no longer attach to the front of the chasis. again returned to mothercare and sent off for repair.arrived back 25 days later.

two weeks later (today) i am in town with the 2 dc and yet again the wheel buckles and the pram becomes impossible to push. i somehow manage to drag it into mothercare and ask for the manager. i explain yet again the pram has failed and all of the above. i said that i am not happy for it to be sent off for repair and i would eitherlike a refund or new pram. she said as my pram was over 6 months old all she could offer was a repair. i then asked to speak to someone at head office and she said it was closed as its the weekend. Angry

so yet again i have no pram and am absolutely fuming. AIBU?

I'm due in 8 weeks with 1st baby and I have to say that I just automatically assumed I'd get cot, buggy, chair, bath, monitor etc from Mothercare. Not after reading all of these poor reveiws I won't. l'll go to John Lewis at the weekend becausentheir reputation for dealing with any issues is so good and Mothercare sound absolutely shite.

lowrib · 07/10/2010 15:32

nickelbabe it's a cached page I think. I guess with time it will disappear?

GeraldineMumsnet · 07/10/2010 16:14

Hello, we've been asked to post up this statement on behalf of Mothercare:

Mothercare prides itself on the service it offers to customers, but in the case of LacyLeggins we have not met those standards, for which we apologise.

We have contacted LacyLeggins directly to deal with her complaint and rectify the issue.

Marchpane · 07/10/2010 16:24

Wow they must have slaved over that. How many days has it taken? 3? 4?

Was the person with the key to the cupboard of stock phrase on holiday?

Hope LL gets a new buggy, an apology and compensation for wasted time and aggravation.

wonka · 07/10/2010 16:27

YAY for that... bout time!

vbusymum1 · 07/10/2010 17:27

Marchplane, I've posted exactly thesame point on the other thread, they're useless aren't they ?

Marchpane · 07/10/2010 17:28

I just wanted something more juicy Grin

ajandjjmum · 07/10/2010 17:39

OK - now you've sorted this MNHQ, can you have a go for me with the company who make 'not just any food', and find out why they really don't care about the metal DH found in his meal on Monday??? Grin

phipps · 07/10/2010 18:05

So, has LL been refunded and given free rein in their shop?

onadietcokebreak · 07/10/2010 22:01

I reckon Mothercare should post on Mumsnet asking for everyones bad experiences/suggestions for improvements and use it as a way to turn their bad reputation around. They could make a nice donation to a charity by way as a thank you for the advice on how to save their business.

Mothercare is for window shopping and getting a feel for products. I wouldnt buy from them ever again!

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 07/10/2010 22:43

I had massive problems with Mothercare when dd (now 7) was a baby wo would love the chance to be on that thread.
I have had 2 more children since then and decided to give them another chance when having ds2 (15 weeks old) I left a trolley load of bedding etc almost £200 worht of stuff in the shop and left after frutilessly trying to get a member of staff care I also wanted to buy a buggy and car seat also.

I toom my business somewhere else after realising they haven't changed.

They just manage to get so many things so wrong, now doing away with changing and feeding rooms...mind you the local one is disgusting and smelly anyway but honestly they are supposed to be the leading brand for mums and babies Hmm

mumblecrumble · 07/10/2010 23:10

LacyLeggins - I am sorry that they have been so pants.

Just to balance out the mothercare stuff - we have always found them excellent. Our buggy had a slight problem with the hood. They repaired it, it took 3 days during which they leant us a buggy and helped us lots. They found they couldn;t repair it so gave us a replacement - the fabric had changed and ours was out of date so they offered us the next one us (higher spec)... They also let us exchange the car seat that came wit it.. when they found the bugg was on sale and cheaper than ours was they gave us £40 cash as this was the difference. ALso the problem happened when DD was 7 months.

We were impressed and have had no probs with buggy since.

Doodleydoo · 08/10/2010 10:57

mumble, I think that is the problem - the complete disparity between stores and their customer service.

I remember something on radio 2 on Jezza Vine a couple of years back with Eggweeena Curry and their customer service and how appalling it was!

Sadly today I will be going to Mothercare, only because I have a large affection for a babygrow ds was given with bears on, he is growing out of it and I love him in it so am going to purchase the next size up Blush

nannynick · 10/10/2010 13:31

Has OutnAbout made a comment with regard to the product they distribute?

[email protected]

For those on Twitter... @philandteds
Make them aware of this message thread and their UK Distributor and Mothercare are dealing with this issue.

The product comes with a 1 year warranty... but it only seems to give you a repair:
"If we determine that the product has a manufacturing fault we will repair it free of charge. If not practical to repair it we will, at our discretion, replace the faulty part in question*."

Phil & Teds - suggest you replace the parts in question... it's now been in for repair more than once.

nicolapandt · 10/10/2010 22:57

Really angry with Mothercare and Phil & Teds. We spent over Euro 700 on a Phil & Teds Vibe including all the accessories. After 18 months of light use, the chassis came apart at one of the spot welds. We brought it back to Mothercare who said that there was only a 12 months warranty. Contacted Phil & Teds who said the same.

I can't believe that they only give a 12 month warranty on a top of the range pushchair. It's very obviously a design fault and not something that failed due to excessive use.

Is there anything I can do - anyone got any advice?

I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from buying a product from Phil & Teds.

Thanks,
Mark /emo/te/6.gif.pagespeed.ce.7QCbzgu8RR.gif
