The title says it all really. Me and my boyfriend were drenched and my nan said we looked like drowned rats. AIBU to take offence at this?

YABU. How on earth does that phrase cause offence?

fryalot · 02/10/2010 18:40

it's quite a common phrase that means "oh you poor thing, you're wet through, come in and sit by the fire whilst I get you a clean, fluffy towel"

so if she meant it like that, YABU.

However, if she meant it in the lesser known sense of "sheeee-it what do you look like, do you not own an umbrella you tight bastard" then YANBU

saturdaygirl · 02/10/2010 18:41

i think its very unpleasant actually.

fluffles · 02/10/2010 18:41

YABtotallyU if you really were drenched.

if however you'd done your hair like that deliberately and thought it looked great you could be a bit offended.

Bagpusstree · 02/10/2010 18:43

YABU. Its just a saying.

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2010 18:44

it's a common saying meaning you're wet through
Cindy Crawford would look like a drowned rat after 10 mins in a downpour

I like it, it gives me an opportunity to demand that I need nurturing and hot chocolate or a whiskey.
As a parent, others are usually too busy whinging at me to notice if I'm soggy or dying of pneumonia.

Mumcentreplus · 02/10/2010 19:08

hahaha...its just a saying..you looked drenched probably with spiky hair..Grin

KurriKurri · 02/10/2010 19:13

Are you easily offended by any chance? Wink

seeker · 02/10/2010 19:19

I say this all the time! Perfectly normal expreaaion.

annapolly · 02/10/2010 19:20

It is only a saying.

A good rule is only take offence if offence was intended.

cumfy · 02/10/2010 19:30

Did your parents never use this expression OP ?

MissBeehiving · 02/10/2010 19:32

YABU - it's a harmless saying. By your nan.

God your Nan is a bitch, I would never speak to her again if I was you.
But then I am NOT you, I have a sense of perspective.

SecretNutellaFix · 02/10/2010 19:43

of course yabu. grow up or people won't bother to speak to you as you get offended so bloody easily.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 02/10/2010 19:55

It's just a phrase love. She's not saying you look like a rat.

She just means you are soaked wet through.

taintedpaint · 02/10/2010 19:57

YADBU, it's just a phrase, a very commonly used one as well. And it's your nan FFS! Unless she's a heinous old witch, and this is the latest in a long line of things that bother you about her, YABVVU!

pointydog · 02/10/2010 19:58

lol. You takin the piss, yes saturday?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 02/10/2010 19:59

lady007pink · 02/10/2010 20:08
