To take offence when someone passes comment on me "looking like a drowned rat"

The title says it all really. Me and my boyfriend were drenched and my nan said we looked like drowned rats. AIBU to take offence at this?

Had to laugh - while it seems many of us have heard this innocent expression, SaturdayGirl is either just unaware or actually trolling...

If you were serious, then have a laugh at this posting (intending to spur women to buy a mac online, and no, not a mac made by Apple!) :-

A quick search came up with a number of links to online dictionaries with this idiom explained, but someone even used the phrase in a marketing ploy...

NG - I would have thought that you could do a \link{http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1882968/d ontlooklikeadrownedratfind_the.html\link}properly Grin

I think you should burn your gran's house down - the evil bitch.

scottishmummy · 02/10/2010 20:47

is your nan peggy mitchell?

PinkieMinx · 02/10/2010 20:50

Old people are cunts

NetworkGuy · 02/10/2010 20:56

LOL - I could have made it a link, sure, but didn't take the question that seriously.

I usually use tinyurl.com (so that redirection service at MN ignores the link as half the time it seems to just cause problems) but it was not really a serious need to prove the phrase is in common usage.

Yes, I could have previewed (but am lazy and not slept for about 60 hours, so perhaps a bit grumpy too)...

Nancy66 · 02/10/2010 21:16

You need to nip this in the bud or before you know it she'll be calling you a 'cheeky monkey' and a 'dolly daydream.'

best pay someone to bump her off

BoppitChamp · 02/10/2010 21:16

yabu

GeekOfTheWeek · 02/10/2010 21:20

I bet you do have rat like features.

dilemma456 · 02/10/2010 21:26

Dreadful If you looked awful enough to warrant a comment like that, I bet any rat in the vicinity who over hear was seriously offended.

Lighten up Wink

Chil1234 · 02/10/2010 21:27

I am wondering which isolated corner of the UK you've been hiding in if neither you nor your boyfriend had never heard the expression 'drowned rat' before. English is a rich and beautiful language with some terrific colloquialisms. Take a tip & read some books. Watch TV. Listen to the radio. Here's a thought... maybe talk to people?

Your poor nan.... I bet she thinks you're as nutty as a fruitcake, as mad as a box of frogs, as thick as two short planks,....

usualsuspect · 02/10/2010 21:30

lmao at dolly daydream Grin

Notyetamummy · 02/10/2010 21:32

Lmao

MadAboutQuavers · 02/10/2010 21:46

Er, you're sounding a bit precious, OP

Never mind unreasonable

blueshoes · 02/10/2010 22:13

Is it because it is offensive to the rat?

TrillianAstra · 02/10/2010 22:17

It's a comment on the weather. Get over it.
