To call the police and tell them I had a "vision"

AwfulMary · 01/10/2010 22:04

I'm not crazy...I'm not someone who believes in phschics or ghosts...I'm the most basic and sensible person ever but this is too weird now and I need to get it out as much as get opinions.

About a year and a half ago I had an idea for a short story or play...and there were some very specific ideas and scenes which came to mind. The story, the characters and certain happenings were vivid. I kept trying to write it...I have had some success already with short stories and a play...so I thought ooh great...this one's a good one!

But I couldn't seem to do it justice. It haunted me...I would see the same scenes over and over and one of them was of a young woman who had been killed and was lying undiscovered between a fence and a wall near some wasteland. I knew it was in Manchester.

I know...it's grim. She'd been killed more than twenty years ago and I could see details in my mind right down to her clothing and I "knew" who had killed her....the names...and under what circumstances. I thought it was my "voice" developing as a writer. It may in fact be just that...

Then about...I think 6 months ago, a news story broke that the skeletal body of a woman had been found inbetween a wall and a fence in Manchester and there was a photograph of the clothing found as it had an unusual print....which whilst not the exact same print I "saw" in my idea, was very similar...It totally freaked me out.

I toyed with the idea of telling the police what had come to me...but I looked up how the Manchester police deal with so-called "Psychic evidence" and it didn't look like they would take it seriously. It said they did not take the calls seriously as they could waste precious time. I undestand tat so haven't called...but it's still unsolved and they don't know who she i and it niggles me! What shall I do? After a while I kept googling to see if they had found out her identity...or any other info...but no. I feel like it could be a coincidence...but what if it's not? I can't say the names that came to me on here incase they are real...what shal I do? Try to foget it?

I have had other occurrences which could be considered a bit phychic but I have always dismissed them as coincidences...they were not really "big" like this.

I think you should call them right now.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 01/10/2010 22:21

You could try calling Crimestoppers rather than the police; that way, you're definitely not wasting police time, but they'll pass it on if they think it relevant?

BitOfFun · 01/10/2010 22:23

Would it be really bad to ask the names?

Ignore me.

TotalChaos · 01/10/2010 22:26

yabu. Don't waste their time on such tenuous grounds.

Hedgeblunder · 01/10/2010 22:28

I really think this is on poor taste.please don't name anyone on here. You just seem to be making a big song and dance about something that's probably just coincidence.

AwfulMary · 01/10/2010 22:28

Ok....that's enough for me. I won't bother them. It is possible as Armi said that I could have linked things more than they were really linked...no guilty conscience though...I was tiny when it happened!

OP posts:
AwfulMary · 01/10/2010 22:29

Why is it poor taste? I said I would never name people on here!

droves · 01/10/2010 22:29

Op have you been watching Medium? .

Wink
Hedgeblunder · 01/10/2010 22:34

Because some poor girl has been murdered and your on here going on about wringing your hands that you could save the day and nail the baddies.

Sorry I just absolutly detest psychics

bundlebelly · 01/10/2010 22:34

I think you should definately write to the police. If nothing else ever comes of it then at least you will feel peace of mind from having done something. And if you are being shown something, then you'll have done what you can about it. Write the story or play as well.

imamissandamummy · 01/10/2010 22:35

i think you should do something, rather than nothing. if you ring the fire engine to change a ligthbulb, thats wasting time, but there IS such thing as being psychic, and you might have some useful info. its up to them if they follow it up, but if you have actual names, it will take no time to check them. they might have very loose leads and you never know one of your names might match!
please don't do nothing. write down your whole dream/vision and hand it in...let them take it from there.
oh, and dont mention any names on here!

like someone else said, crimewatch ask for ANY information that anyone has.... every little helps.

do something. x

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 01/10/2010 22:35

It's obviously playing on your mind, and there have been psychics who have helped the Police in the past. Not all psychics 'ask' for their gift, some try to run away from it but can't 'turn it off'.

What I'm trying to say is, I agree with those other posters who say you should write a letter, or phone Crimestoppers. Get it off your chest and let the Police follow it up, or ignore it, as they see fit. Then you'll have 'closure'.

Armi · 01/10/2010 22:41

'there IS such thing as being psychic'

Oh yes? And where has this been proven? (Beyond wishful thinking, anecdotal evidence and fraudulent behaviour?)

Armi · 01/10/2010 22:42

'there have been psychics who have helped the Police in the past'

As far as I'm aware - having once looked into it - in this country there is only one case when a 'psychic' has made a contribution to the solving of a case and even then their input could have been explained in more mundane terms.

Hedgeblunder · 01/10/2010 22:46

Armi-exactly, it has never ever ever ever been proven.
I think if you make money 'talking' to the dead and charging their loved ones for the priviledge then you are literally the lowest of the low, it's disgusting.

My poor friends mum got addicted to them after her son died and spent tens of thousands 'talking' to him. It was all a massive scam

Because it is a load of shit.

imamissandamummy · 01/10/2010 22:49

armi, your obviously very against op taking her information to the police.
im not getting drawn into trying to prove how useful psychics have been in police work when no obvious leads are there.

there can be no harm in her writing the information down and handing it in. - its up to the police what they do with it once its in their possesion.

awfulmary - please do provide the police or crimewatch with your information. you can be sure you wont be the first person to do it, and they will have quick avenues of deciding whether to follow it up or not.

jameelaq · 01/10/2010 22:50

OP I don't believe in physics either (but I do believe in ghosts). I would call the police and tell them I had a vision. A vision where the police arrested criminals and not old ladies who hit goldfish, a vision where they protected the innocent from the criminals and so on. But I'm afraid they would tell me it was all a dream and things weren't really like that

CUKAmbassador · 01/10/2010 22:52

Am I being unreasonable to say the OP is a loon.

For goodness sake there is no such thing as premonition and psychic ability.

What you have is your brain telling you that dreams you have fit something you see in real life.

Contacting the police on something like this should see you banged up for wasting police time.

imamissandamummy · 01/10/2010 22:53

the op isnt charging anyone! this is something that came to her before she even knew anything about that poor girl who has been killed and nobody knows who by or how!

even if there is just a tiny chance of something being some help whatsoever, isnt it a good idea to at least TRY?

stop being so negative about this - what harm can it do? its the police who will get the info, not the family!

Portofino · 01/10/2010 22:56

Like someone else said further up....if you have names/info ring Crimestoppers. They will check it out....

CUKAmbassador · 01/10/2010 22:57

"even if there is just a tiny chance of something being some help whatsoever, isnt it a good idea to at least TRY?"

What a ridiculous comment.

I have dreams about the 3.30 Winner at Epsom, I don't stick my house on it.

There is no such thing as being psychic.

Concordia · 01/10/2010 23:01

wot bundlebelly said.
actually i don't think psychics exist either really, but i think for the ops peace of mind she should pass on the names. that isn't wasting much time really now, is it?
and you never know....

imamissandamummy · 01/10/2010 23:04

people are getting caught up on silly things here...

"My poor friends mum got addicted to them after her son died and spent tens of thousands 'talking' to him. It was all a massive scam"

OP isnt claiming to 'talk to the dead' for a large fee!

"I have dreams about the 3.30 Winner at Epsom, I don't stick my house on it."

OP isnt betting on her vision/dream!

OP had a vivid dream about a murder that she thought was basis for a story, but she kept trying to no avail to get past this one main scene of a girls body, in a particular place, city, age etc.

fast forward a few years and OP hears about a body found in same place, city, girl of same age....

why is it inconceivable for some of you to accept that there might be something worth passing on here? The OP has names ffs, they might mean nothing, or actually, they might mean something...

If the police have the information, they can decide whether to follow it up or not.

Giddyup · 01/10/2010 23:04

jameelaq- I don't believe in physics either...load of old tosh, god knows why they insist on everyone sitting a GCSE in it Grin.

Armi · 01/10/2010 23:24

'armi, your obviously very against op taking her information to the police.'

Yes. Because it's twaddle.

'im not getting drawn into trying to prove how useful psychics have been in police work when no obvious leads are there.'

How convenient. I rather got the impression from previous remarks that psychics are helping the police all the time. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

'there can be no harm in her writing the information down and handing it in. - its up to the police what they do with it once its in their possesion.'

The thing is, in a normal society it would just get thrown in the bin, but the police are obliged to follow up all potential leads, no matter how utterly ludicrous. You'd be wasting tax-payers' money and preventing some poor long-suffering detective from going home on time.
