I definitely would.

Maybe twice.

Have just watched last scene again....

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 16/10/2010 23:21

Yes, Lennox is an insufferable stuffed shirt (although less so in the book, where he doesn't continue to pursue Margaret, who has clearly got more sense). Those of us of, cough, a certain age may remember Mr Bell from his days as a.

MrsLucasNorth · 16/10/2010 23:33

Bless - thought he looked vaguely familiar.
Am quite surprised at self though - thought I'd prefer Gisbourne. Think part of that is that I can't be arsed to wade through the rest of Robin Hood. Have seen RA topless in leather kecks on YouTube - job done!

Thornton''s mum reminded me of MIL - scary!

MrsLucasNorth · 16/10/2010 23:33

Is it worth reading book after seeing dvd?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 16/10/2010 23:53

And Mr Bell too has a lovely voice.

I think it's worth reading the book (although there's a lot of it - 520 pages in the Penguin edition - how many children/how much reading time do you have?). I felt the characters are more subtly drawn in the book - to the very best of my recollection, the scene at the start of the dvd where Thornton brutalises the worker caught smoking is an invention - and there's a lot of (to me anyway) very interesting social commentary. But then, I've always been fond of the Victorian novel.

And, of course, if you read the book now you will be able to visualise Mr Thornton.

I've still only seen 1 1/2 episodes of Robin Hood but I have to say that the character of Gisborne is not very well-developed, is it? 'Tis panto. Maybe the subtlety comes later?

Just seen the first promo for this year's CIN. Now, where's that Youtube clip?

onemoreriver · 17/10/2010 00:08

It's really late but now I'm going to have to watch the end of N and S again before I nod off. It makes me sob for the lack of beauty and floppy sleeved but manly shirts in the modern era!

MrsLucasNorth · 17/10/2010 00:09

1 dd and a good hr a night reading time in the bath so will have a go at the book.
Off to bed now - hoping for rude sweet dreams!

PrairieOyster · 17/10/2010 07:36

I love North and South the book. :) I prefer it to Cranford too!

Better not admit to how many times I have watched the end of N&S...

GoG is by far the most interesting character in RH - but I agree it's hard to sit through all the dross for a few glorious minutes of Guy.

MrsLucasNorth · 17/10/2010 10:28

Prairie I watched the end 3 times last night!

onemoreriver · 17/10/2010 11:45

I got distracted by other treats on YouTube last night. Long live the internet! It was never so easy when I was a teenager.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/10/2010 12:56

Another one here just picked herself off the carpet. I was almost afraid to watch N&S again in case it wasn't as good as I remembered. And it wasn't.

It was better! GrinThose little smiles he does...

G of G not well developed, though, Flowers?
He was looking mighty good last night.Wink

MrsRichardArmitage · 17/10/2010 13:58

I was watching N and S the other day (only second time mind!) when it started jumping and I am hoping it was just a car going past or a hairdryer or something.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 17/10/2010 15:05

You must be very worried, Mrs RA. I hope it sorts itself out okay.

MrsLucasNorth · 17/10/2010 17:19

onemoreriver rofl!

MrsLucasNorth · 17/10/2010 18:00

Just read that Spoons had definitely been commissioned for a tenth series Grin!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 17/10/2010 18:09

I suggested, theresaholeinyourmind, that the character of Gisborne was not well developed. As for the rest, well I hadn't noticed. Cough.

You'll have to excuse me for a while. We are having valuable Family Time watching a highly educational documentary about tigers. The narrator's voice seems rather familiar. Ahem.

onemoreriver · 17/10/2010 18:37

I feel the need to add, RA treats obvs. G of G had passed me by! How??

cupcakesandbunting · 18/10/2010 09:25

Hello, fellow RA stalkers admirers. I had a brief sojourn from the interwebs but on my return the first thing I did was check this thread. I loves it I do.

I'm still not talking to RA after last week's Twitter deaf-out, though.

I bet he's gutted too!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 18/10/2010 09:32

Cupcakes, you're back!

onemoreriver · 18/10/2010 09:36

Have realised my last post sounded a bit sarky. Wasn't supposed to, sorry. Blush

cupcakesandbunting · 18/10/2010 09:43
Grin

rofl! Smile

Theresaholeinyourmind · 18/10/2010 09:46

Guy character development here for you, Flowers.Has anyone seen/read it? Or checked out the reviews? Dunno, does it look a bit embarassing?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 18/10/2010 09:48

Cupcakes, my sweet. You have to remember that, in the world of Lucas, nothing is as it seems. So if he is ignoring you in favour of those (as I think you called them) floozies, it is because he is playing the long game and one day he will be yours. Leaving Mr Thornton for me.

PS I think the approved MN word is fanjo. Cough.
