It had 10 mini packs of haribo and two lollies in it and nothing else. DD says I'm the worst mummy ever for not letting her have them when SHE wants (i.e all at once!)

she got 10 minibags of haribo in 1 partybag?? why?

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 27/09/2010 13:31

How old is she? I would (and have) rationed out party bags - but then I am a mean mummy and DD1 is only three.

ChippingIn · 27/09/2010 13:32

You are mean.

Why shouldn't a child have a sugar rush resulting in revolting behaviour & feeling sick if she wants one??

Grin

Get used to it - it's all preparation for the teenage years!!

booyhoo · 27/09/2010 13:34

fwiw, i always swipe party bags at 1st opportunity and bin whatever i can get away with.

TheLadyEvenstar · 27/09/2010 13:36

Booy you bin them??? jeez at least I eat them all put them away for another day

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/09/2010 13:40

I have trained my kids to bring home the party bag and gimmee some divvy up.

I am a terrible mother Blush

bruffin · 27/09/2010 13:48

There is no such thing as a "sugar rush"

babymutha · 27/09/2010 13:56

10 mini bags of haribo! Crikey. birthday persons mother - what are you thinking!

babymutha · 27/09/2010 13:57

yanbu - birthday persons mother is - 10 bags!

GeekOfTheWeek · 27/09/2010 13:58

I mostly eat the contents.

dilemma456 · 27/09/2010 14:04

that was my thinking. If it had been one or even 2 I'd have just let her get on with it but 10 was a tad too many!

Ahh well

YABU - I'd have swiped 9 packs of haribo and 1 lolly and then let her have 'the whole party bag' in one go...and scoff the rest with DH later Grin

ChippingIn · 27/09/2010 14:09

Yeah if you say so Bruffin Hmm

bruffin · 27/09/2010 14:26

Just google sugar rush/high mythGrin

Alouiseg · 27/09/2010 14:27

Marxism for children, interesting concept.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/09/2010 14:28

I'm not sure that's right bruffin. My youngest bounces off walls when he has sweets, chocolate or sugary drinks! It makes his gibbering and stimming and echolalia worse.

conkie · 27/09/2010 14:33

It has been scientifically proven that sugar doesn't make kids hyper

bruffin · 27/09/2010 14:38

It's because of the situation they are in when they are allowed sweets ie parties etc that makes them hyper or sometimes just the expectation of the parents.
There have been plenty of studies and they all disprove sugar rush.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/09/2010 14:39

really?

well, come round to mine and feed my kids sweets and choc and general crap and say that to me while they're yelling and leaping around Grin

I don't want to be one of those boring people who link or C&P to try to get their point across, Grin but if you googled sugar and autism - you'd see there's loads of stuff on there to suggest it does affect them.

cece · 27/09/2010 14:39

I would have just let her have the lot and then be done with it. But mine are school age. Not sure for preschoolers...?

MrsTittleMouse · 27/09/2010 14:40

Better for her teeth to eat them all at once.

Ragwort · 27/09/2010 14:42

Agree with booyhoo - I bin them immediately - and refuse to 'do' partybags at my own child's party - mean mum Grin.

booyhoo · 27/09/2010 14:43

i am mixed on this one. i have seen proof of studies that say it has no effect yet i can tell if ds has had sweets or chocolate by his behaviour. and before you say it is teh environment he is in when he has the sweets, i mean situations like, i had been out of the house and EXp was with him, i would come home and ds would be bouncing off the walls. i knew he had had something and EXp would then tell me something like, "i don't think he'll want dinner, he had crisps and sweets and hour ago" Hmm

ChippingIn · 27/09/2010 14:43

When you can walk into a normal house (not a party) and tell if that child has recently had sweets or coke (cola not powder!) - then it isn't all 'crap' - it may be the e numbers or the sugar (really don't care) but the fact is, that with most kids too many sweets have a less than desirable affect...

booyhoo · 27/09/2010 14:44

better for their eeth not to eat them at all, which is why i bin them. i also don't do party bags.
