to want to thank the lady in a blue mazda on M25

We were travelling on M25 this morning at about 9.30 on the fast lane. Couple of cars before us suddenly slowed down, but the breaks in our car did not work. All I remeber is me shouting at my husband to slow down as I could see us crashing into this convertable blue mazda(not sure about the make). The lady herself was able to break on time and get out of our way by 10 cm...I am still shaking. We were going out for a fun family day and it could have gone soo wrong. We never got a chance to say thank you to her as we had to move out of the motorway all togather, but I have been thinking of that woman all day as I dont think she realised how lucky she was avoiding us at 70ml/h crashing on her back. So whoever you are THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Morloth said it better

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 27/09/2010 21:31

"How do you know the OP was driving too close to the car in front?"

Because they were in danger of running into the back of it!!!

You should be driving your car in such a way that if the car in front stops, you can too! I'm really quite disturbed that this seems to be a really difficult concept.

I'm also disturbed that the OP appears to have a driving licence, and yet not know that stopping distance is longer at 70mph than at 30mph. Not to mention the casual attitude to having functional brakes...

Animation · 27/09/2010 21:32

"You sound as barking as the OP Animation"

Shut it Morloth - you're your just a thug.

Morloth · 27/09/2010 21:34
Grin

But a thug who can drive and has an understanding of physics, road laws, common sense and who doesn't rely on the driver in front of me to have ESP.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/09/2010 21:34

Animation it's nice to know that when your argument has been proved to be bollocks that you'll resort to name calling.

backwardpossom · 27/09/2010 21:35

Are Animation and the OP the same person? Hmm

Animation · 27/09/2010 21:36

"You should be driving your car in such a way that if the car in front stops, you can too."

Are you a driver?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/09/2010 21:37

I almost hope they are the same or else there are 2 loons out on the roads with no idea that a car with defective brakes is DANGEROUS!!!

Morloth · 27/09/2010 21:38

Well to be fair hobnob I did call Animation barking, an assessment which I stand by.

Anyone who cannot grasp the very very basic driving knowledge necessary to understand that if you run into the back of someone you are always at fault clearly is either barking mad or just plain dumb.

Animation · 27/09/2010 21:41

Morloth - posters like you who hide behind their P.Cs calling OP's "morans" are nothing more than thugs.

LadyBiscuit · 27/09/2010 21:41

OMG Animination - I seriously can't believe you posted that. I've been driving for nearly 30 years and have never had an accident so I think I probably know what I'm talking about more than you do. That statement is absolutely barking - Morloth is right.

And I stand by my earlier one - please let me know when you're out and about so I can make sure I'm in no less than 50 miles of wherever you are.

Feenie · 27/09/2010 21:41

I did suspect they were the same ages ago, since they kept making the same spelling mistake.

cumfy · 27/09/2010 21:42

You should be driving your car in such a way that if the car in front stops, you can too.

Are you a driver?

Morloth · 27/09/2010 21:42

I have an Australian Class HR driver's licence and have been driving since I was 16. If you run into the back of someone, you were too close/driving too fast.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/09/2010 21:43

When I'm driving I always have in my mind that other people on the road don't think as I do and may be unpredictable. That way I try and always be on the lookout for the unexpected. That seems to have served me well in 17 years of driving with only 1 accident (and the idiot pulled into me whilst I was stationary)

Animation · 27/09/2010 21:43

Morloth - hey, I'm too long in the touth for your kind of manipulation - keyboard warrior.

Morloth · 27/09/2010 21:44

I think you will find that I called the OP a moron.

Don't worry though I am good and gobby in real life as well.

vbusymum1 · 27/09/2010 21:44

I don't understand this, am I getting it wrong - the OP was driving in a line of traffic when one car braked suddenly. Her car didn't slow down for some reason but she didn't hit the car in front because the Mazda moved lanes.

But how did they manage not to hit the cars in front of the Mazda ? Did they all move into an empty middle lane, did the brakes suddenly start working ?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Goblinchild · 27/09/2010 21:44

Is that your standard query Animation?
Are you a driver?
Yes, and for 30 years so I predate the M25.
I also have my Advanced Driver's thingie which involved driving at speed and using a skid pan.
The OP and her DH are unsafe on the road, and their vehicle might be too.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/09/2010 21:44

I think it was "barking" actually not "moran"...

Animation · 27/09/2010 21:45

NEXT.

FootLikeATractionEngine · 27/09/2010 21:46

The only way a driver is at fault if they have a hit in the read is if they roll back down a hill and hit the car behind. That's the law. If the brakes fail, then they can make a claim against the manufacturer/repairer if they are shown to have been negligent.

Most people don't leave a safe stopping distance, but it is luck rather than judgement if they get through their driving life without hitting someone.

I am really struggling to understand the thought process that leads to the front driver being culpable. Can Animatron and the OP explain?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/09/2010 21:46

"Touth" TOOTH

Goblinchild · 27/09/2010 21:46

Is the popcorn sweet or salty cumfy?
I need to know before I decide whether to ramraid you or not.

Morloth · 27/09/2010 21:47

Oh I don't know, you seem to be biting pretty well Animation.

hobnob just to be clear I called Animation barking and the OP a moron. It is important to keep your insults straight. There may be tests later.
