Some friends of ours and DP and I went out for Sunday lunch yesterday to a pub.

We have a child. They do not.

We all (4 adults) had a main dinner
Child had childs portion of adult dinner, at 1/2 price
We they then shared a desert between them whilst we had 2 deserts between us.

Plus 1 round of drinks...

bill came to over 75

they put £20 on the table and then in the confusion of leaving etc, took DD out to run round in garden, I paid the bloody balance

so... they paid effective 10 each... and I paid 20 each for the adults and a £5 for DD's roast... am I being a grumpy tight arse?

I did go out on Sat night for drinks for my friend's b-day, bought an expensive round for 6 girls of whom I only knew 2. Didn't get bought a single one back. That was rather annoying.

There are always givers and takers in this world, I think.

On a slightly different, but related, note my 13 year old dd is always being offered wine in restaurants when the waiter pours the bottle because they think she's 18.
She doesn't look 18 but she is 5' 7" tall

I remember being refused child fares on buses when I was a child "because you're so tall" I, too am 5' 7"
Confused

Worst person for this was an ex-friend of mine.We would go out for Mexican food before movie.
She would always say she had already eaten and order tapwater!
Then when the food came she would of course ask to try a bit of everyonesHmmand put it on a side plate-Nachos,salad etc
Of course when the bill came she would say sooo sweetly "oh I only ordered tapwater" and pay nothing -grrrrrrr this was a women who had Louis Vuitton everything and was not short of cash.

snoozathon both of them work - have no children, and are older than DP and I (although similar ages)

We have a child, and expecting another... I do not think it was due to this.

I think they're just tight

When we are out in a group, the person who doesn't drink booze never gets asked to pay for any drinks, even soft drinks.

Perfumed life, that's interesting - does it not cause issues? Soft drinks really can add up to nearly as much as alcoholic drinks, though I guess people don't tend to drink quite as much, say, Coke as beer for example.

EToTheIPi, Wink, yep, it's very frustrating isn't it! You have to admire the gumption though. Not sure if I'd put up with it from an adult but sounds like you've got the situation sussed out now.
