to not trust non-parents who post on mn

ha, gotcha! I feel nothing of the sort. as far as Im concerned all are welcome!

but I was wondering whether non-parents who use mn ever feel odd about posting, and read some of the threads and think "ffs, how hard is it really to organise school uniforms/bf/get your child to sit at the table?" etc.

Gigantaur · 18/09/2010 19:27

I went on piston heads and told them al off. a few of them got banned.

then i went back and kept asking stupid inane questions about totally rubbish cars like nissan Sunny's and mk1 Astra's.

mwhahahaaa

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 18/09/2010 19:32

pmsl, did you pay special attention to the colours of the car?

Oh, yes, Trillian, I know exactly what you mean! There are loads of people on here who're doing PhDs but oddly, when I looked for a student forum, they're all crap. With exactly the same textspeak/teenage bollocks as everywhere else, and mostly colonized by actual teenagers (which is really strange ... why would you want to know about being a student if you're 14? That's even odder than me being on a 'parenting' site!)

TrillianAstra · 18/09/2010 20:20

Oh yes, there are other fora with normal people on them, but they are always very focused on one subject, and I just wanted to CHAT about, you know, stuff. Mn works very well for that.

I didn't know green kirtle was lissielou. Isn't lissielou a famous mner? And didn't I talk to you about a dress in the summer? Was it the White stuff one?

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 18/09/2010 21:47

you did Grin and I'm not Blush namechanged because lissielou was starting to feel like the poster with all the mc's i miss my old name though Sad

I'm a nanny...came on here for advice on nanny stuff (OFSTED legal stuff etc) but I don't often venture there!

I do offer advise on things like weaning and colic etc, purely because I've looked after babies from newborn, so although I may not be a parent I've done all that stuff iygwim

Mumsnet is the only parenting site I've used (tried 3 or 4...during college when needed help with coursework etc from a parents POV) where people actually answer your Qs regardless!

Bounty SHUNNED me SHUNNED me I tell you!

TrillianAstra · 18/09/2010 22:13

I saw someone in real life wearing that dress and managed to put my door completely in my mouth asking was it the White stuff dress and then saying I was really glad I hadn't bought it! Blush I think I got away with the explanation of it being a maxi dress that was gorgeous on people her size but no good if you are 6 inches taller where it would be a calf-length dress. At least I hope she doesn't think I'm a bitch now!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 18/09/2010 22:20

lolol what did she say?

She is very nice, and had had a few drinks by that point, so it was ok. :)

OrientCalf · 18/09/2010 22:37

i first came years ago when I googled things to do with DP's godson when we looked after him for a couple of days and some threads on here came up

lurked for a bit, then started posting on some of the non-parent threads

I like it for the same reasons as Trillian outlined. Although I won't really post on parenting threads I'll look at them sometimes and it has definitely made me more understanding of the people I work with who are parents.

I don't think I've ever thought 'fgs it must be easy' wrt parenting stuff. other stuff maybe though Wink

'I was wondering whether non-parents who use mn ever feel odd about posting'

No.

BistoBear · 18/09/2010 23:05

I don't have kids, have never been pregnant and I don't know if I want kids...

I used the BBC Relationship Message Board because it was the only site I could access at work Wink When it was closed I would read the Parenting boards and posters there would mention Mumsnet, especially AIBU. I wandered over and found it to be much more interesting and diverse Smile

I spend most of my time in Chat but read Relationships and AIBU. I think it's a great site and definitely more Ladysnet than mumsnet Smile

Scuttlebutter · 18/09/2010 23:59

I'm a non parent, and don't work with children. I like AIBU - all human life is there - it's great. Also like reading Chat, Dog forum, S & B (I like moisturiser and nail varnish) and Good Housekeeping. Many of these are more woman specific than just for parents - every one has to clean their loo, regardless of offspring! I don't generally post on anything that needs a specific parental input but there are many threads that deserve a comment and sometimes its helpful for parents to understand the POV of non parents. I've also learned alot - I had no idea before coming on here that a bare lady garden would be such a regular topic, or Bridezillas, or Friday night bumsex or any of the other favourites. Grin As I work from home, popping in to MN is my "water cooler" moment as although I talk all day to our dogs they don't always talk back to me in such detail about Richard Dawkins.

nickelbabe · 19/09/2010 15:02

After having convinced myself i wasn't addicted to this blimming site, i've discovered how to use the internet on my mobile phone. So now i'm reading this at home. Shock

sorry emptyshell. Green kirtle really is on your side though. :(

Bue · 19/09/2010 19:02

I first came here because I'm soon to be a student midwife and I find the childbirth and pregnancy threads fab for getting people's RL experiences. Then I started reading everything because it really is one of the most amusing and intelligent forums around. Even the parenting stuff is sometimes interesting to me - The "Judgy McJudgerson" threads can make for some bloody fascinating reading!
