Given the conspiracy thread, moon landings?

I have an friend who is an academic and a scientist. He swears the moon landings simply couldn't have taken place given the technology in 1969, asteroid belts? Apparently the 'ship' simply couldn't have got there, this was the era before advanced computers and so on.

Don't most people believe we did go to the moon?

Which are the more 'believable' conspiracy theories?

Boney - yes, that was featured on the fabulous BBC4 documentary about the Moon last year. It's one guy's job to ride his motorbike to the observatory high up a winding path in the mountains and monitor it. Still technically part of the Apollo programme.

I believe a conspiracy theory then someone debunks it then a conspiracy theorist debunks the debunking and then my brain gets stewed and I don't know what's what any more :(

My husband (who is a keen astronomer) believes that men did land on the moon, but that the footage and photos are fake (they were needed for publicity purposes, but they didn't have good enough footage for all kinds of technical reasons). That kind of did my head in when he told me that!

Oh the other one that DP has mentioned is that they did land on the moon but there were aliens there so had to fake the footage.
