had to catch a bus today and there were three buggies on board. they were the £15 type buggies with babies in, aged from about 6 months to 1 year. one had no coat on or socks, none had raincovers yet it was raining. despte this the parents were dressed in designer clothing - ralph lauren, uggs, juicy couture etc, with gold jewellery on and all had decent warm coats.

AIBU to judge these parents? i just wish people would put the needs of their dc before their own i guess :(

Does it not rain on middle class people then?

Helibee - i think it's pretty 'harsh' to be agreeing with this pile of nonsense.

my judgy pants don't fit anymore, what shall I do?

IMoveTheStars · 17/09/2010 00:58

Where can you get these £15 buggies? I could really do with one..

helibee · 17/09/2010 01:44

Northernlurker, The OP stated that she just wished that they would put the dc's needs before their own. I dont think she meant any harm and i do personally agree with her about the fixed position strollers being unsuitable for young babies.

I also think that most of us from time to time judge other parents, even subconsciously, from little things to style of parenting.

Lacyleggins what a bizarre assumption! Social class has no bearing on how good a mother you are. My children regularly have dirty faces and sometimes scream and frequently take ALL of their clothes off. We also go out in the rain without being shrouded in plastic because it is only water...

What a bizarre collection of things to base judgement on. If you had said that you saw children being ignored while their parents were texting, or a newborn in an upright buggy, or a 1 month old consuming chocolate etc, people would have probably agreed with you. But you presented your judging on the basis of the type of clothing they were wearing and the cost of their buggies. This looks like classic snobbery.
Perhaps what you saw was judge-worthy, but you have kind of buried that message under stereotypes.
I also think the no socks thing is a bit of a red herring when it comes to assessing parenting. We never managed to keep socks on from about 3 months old. Tights were not an option due to the fact that my ds has insanely large feet (he was wearing socks for age 3 to 4 years at 12 months!) so the tights finished up only reaching to his thighs so we were regularly accosted by old ladies screaming hysterically that his feet would be cold.
These days we fairly regularly get caught out by the rain - I carry him on my back so no rain cover for us. I assume that we are being judged for that too.

sapphireblue · 17/09/2010 10:57

please don't judge for the lack of socks..........DD2 won't keep them on no matter what I try!!

Morloth · 17/09/2010 11:16
