to wear my judgey pants?

had to catch a bus today and there were three buggies on board. they were the £15 type buggies with babies in, aged from about 6 months to 1 year. one had no coat on or socks, none had raincovers yet it was raining. despte this the parents were dressed in designer clothing - ralph lauren, uggs, juicy couture etc, with gold jewellery on and all had decent warm coats.

AIBU to judge these parents? i just wish people would put the needs of their dc before their own i guess :(

Tights are the answer. Must try harder to think of an idea to make a million.

Okay, so nobody likes seeing cold babies... but judgey pants are rarely a good idea.

What on earth made you think the baby had just eaten a box of Mars bars?

LacyLeggins · 16/09/2010 22:42

rinder as i have already said the buggies didnt have hoods!! am judging the quality of the parenting also, as i said earlier. i do not agree with a small baby screaming, covered in chocolate, having a dummy rammed in its mouth and it repeatedly spitting it out, whilst the mother doesnt even aknowledge the child and carries on texting!

PennyBlue · 16/09/2010 22:45

Just been thinking... I was out and about with little DS today (same day!) and felt really guilty that I had put a coat on him as I thought he was probably too hot... so how do we know these babies were cold??

Oh yes, and where does one get a pushchair for £15? (Our £45 pushchair is wrecked and disgustingly dirty and we need a new one)

ShinyAndNew · 16/09/2010 22:47

I have a £15 type buggy. They don't come with rain covers and the one off the Quinny doesn't fit.

I have been too busy spending all my money on fags and Lambrini to bother buying one that fits.

P.S all my designer gear is fake/primark knock offs.

Rindercella · 16/09/2010 22:47

Lacy, in your OP you asked whether or not you should be wearing judgy pants based on the information you gave, i.e. parents wearing designer gear, babies without raincovers, socks, etc. You said nothing of dummies being rammed (a tad strong, no?) into chocolate filled mouths, uncaring mothers texting rather than attending to their children, etc.

You judged them. I judge you for doing so Wink

rpickett · 16/09/2010 22:48

Where can you get a buggy for £15?? I had to replace mine yesterday as my 15mth old is still practising walking so gets tired easily and the cheapest I could find was £65 and thats basic (although it does have a hood).
YANBU for judgey pants I love mine because I'm usually the one being judged (quite young for two toddlers and a large bump)so dont get the oppotunity to wear them often.

ShinyAndNew · 16/09/2010 22:48

PennyBlue, Argos, but I think they are £20 now. And I have had to superglue the wheels on because they kept falling off. But other than that it's not bad little buggy for £20, despite the lack of rain cover.

usualsuspect · 16/09/2010 22:48

I hope the mum had an i phone and not a crappy nokia

helibee · 16/09/2010 22:48

I do understand, its hard when you see things that you don't like or wouldn't do with your own children. Personally i dont like the strollers you are talking about for young children, especially if its the ones that are fixed in one position without the ability to recline.

my ds had severe eczema when he was a baby and overheated extremely quickly, as a result in autumn/winter, sometimes he didn't always have a coat on, we judged by his body temperature. But this is autumn, it isnt freezing and the babies may have been perfectly ok temp wise.

would the no coats or socks have bothered you if they were in proper prams/strollers?

Why did you think that the baby looked like they had just eaten a box of mars bars? Just curious Grin

JorrisBohnson · 16/09/2010 22:51

You should have whipped your judgey pants off and wrapped them around the poor, cold, baby.

Northernlurker · 16/09/2010 22:55

I just wish people would put themselves first and never, ever get on bloomming buses. This site is full of women upset by things they've seen on buses. There are courtrooms across the land that have seen less criminal behaviour than seen on buses by mumsnetters. There are whole conference of social workers who would pass out at the horror that is parenting as observed on a bus by mumsnetters. Seriously - I think they should ban musmnetters ever from getting on buses. It's just encouraging people to think it's ok isn't it? Really they should stay at home in a warm jumper and focus on their parenting.

Hmm

Clearly a case of UPTWP - using public transport whilst poor.

LacyLeggins · 16/09/2010 22:55

ok to calirfy here, i wasnt judging because the baby just didnt have socks or they had forgotten a coat.

mental picture - small baby in fixed upright position buggy with no hood raincover coat socks or blanket. dirty face and screaming. dummy being forced into mouth by dad and baby clearly rejecting it. mum not even taking any notice and texting.

i just felt sorry for the babe. i am not judging people who have simply mis judged the weather etc, it was all of these things together that made me judge!

MillyR · 16/09/2010 22:57

But people on MN are always saying how big buggies should not be taken on the bus and that we must all buy additional £15 buggies to take on the bus so that we can fold them up on the bus if needed. Now we are to be judged for using the £15 buggy? What is the solution?

I don't know why I'm saying we when my youngest is 9. That would really cause some judging, if I put my 9 year old in a £15 buggy.

LacyLeggins · 16/09/2010 22:57

flame me all you want but i just dont find this acceptable! and you all no if you were there you too would have had your big judgey pants on Grin

OP posts:
ShinyAndNew · 16/09/2010 22:58

Oh dad was there was too? What time of say was it? I bet they don't have jobs either.

Some people should not be allowed to have children.

YourCallIsImportant · 16/09/2010 23:02

Interesting first post LacyLeggins Hmm

ChippingIn · 16/09/2010 23:04

I judge you on the leggings alone.

We were all out in T-shirts today, not a sock in sight - please call the NSPCC

helibee · 16/09/2010 23:05

i do agree with you lacy on most things and prob would have judged too, i have an image of it in my head Grin

btw i wasnt having ago about the socks or coat i was just curious if that was a factor in the 'judging' or if it was the stoller, now i see it was just a combination of all the above.

Northernlurker · 16/09/2010 23:07

How can you agree with Lacy on 'most things' if this indeed her first post?

LacyLeggins · 16/09/2010 23:08

noethern i take it she is regarding to 'most things' within my op.

OP posts:
LacyLeggins · 16/09/2010 23:10

also i cannot see in what regard this being my first post has to do with my response! and also my name!

OP posts:
helibee · 16/09/2010 23:39

i meant within this thread, you are being a bit harsh northernlurker

clemetteattlee · 16/09/2010 23:41

I have never owned a raincover and - gasp- I am middle class with a Quinny!

OP, I think yours is a typical example of a common AIBU "mistake". You asked about one thing and then claimed to be upset about something else entirely. Bad form.

LacyLeggins · 17/09/2010 00:09

clemetteattlee so if you are middle class i guess you wouldnt be catching the bus in the rain with no hood or raincover? or a baby with no coat and socks, who is screaming and has a dirty face?
