A girl is sat in the library on facebook with her toddler beside her in his pushchair and what I can gather, a neighbour of hers sat on the computer next to her.

She is completely ignoring the little one, and is effing and blinding in conversation with the boy next to her.

The baby threw his bottle on the floor and the woman called him 'a little tramp'.

I am really disturbed by the woman saying this, and swearing infront of the baby.

AIBU?

I don't think the tramp thing is disgusting, but the swearing is.

DetectivePotato · 14/09/2010 19:05

No, but what can you do? It is horrible when people talk like this to or in front of their children but you can't stop it.

choufleur · 14/09/2010 19:06

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 19:08

It's very sad.

But you can bet it's exactly the way the mum was bought up herself.Sad

ItWasADarkAndStormyNight · 14/09/2010 19:14

YANBU, I don't think tramps too bad but it depends how it was said, the background you've given sounds horrible :(

BabyDubsEverywhere · 14/09/2010 19:19

i call kids 'trampy pants' Blush

...but i dont mean it its affectionate Hmm

They are grubby buggers sometimes though Grin

redderthanred · 14/09/2010 19:25

depends on the context. I call my DD a toe rag and a scruffian, haha.

Its meant affectionatly when she looks a mess.

however, in the context you are saying, then yes, thats not nice at all.

PandaEis · 14/09/2010 19:44

i was in tescos the other day and a young looking girl was pushing along an small-ish baby (i would guess at about 6-9 month old) and chatting away to her friend. the baby dropped/threw her bottle onto the floor outside of the pram and the girl (mum??) picked it up all the while shouting at the baby and ended her rant with stop it you stupid little bitchShock

i had my DD with me who is 4yo and she told the girl offGrin she said dont call her that naughty word she is a little baby and walked offGrin

brassband · 14/09/2010 21:03

God your DD sounds a right madam-pity her teacher!

TheHouseofMirth · 14/09/2010 21:09

Actually I think she sounds like a little girl with strong morals who has the courage to stand up to bullies. Good for her!

PandaEis · 14/09/2010 21:19

brassband she stands up for kids who are being bullied and is very loving. she wont stand for people being unnecessarily meanSmile she isnt a madam she is a confident child who isnt scared of bullies...though she can be stroppyGrin

scottishmummy · 14/09/2010 21:20

tramp isnt necessarily sexual can mean slovenly,id be more alarmed at swearing etc

zebratum · 14/09/2010 21:23

Your dd sounds fantastic, I hope my ds is like that when he older, I spend my childhood telling off smokers :-D

mummyloveslucy · 14/09/2010 21:25

She definatly sounds like a confident little girl with strong morals. Bless her, it probubly upset her.

That is a really nasy comment brassband.

usualsuspect · 14/09/2010 21:26

I have been known to say mine look like the clampetts

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 21:28

Well, I'm shocked your DD even knew the word "bitch" was bad, PandaEis! My DD has never ever heard it!

Wink
mummyloveslucy · 14/09/2010 21:33

It was probubly the tone and the fact that she was shouting. She would've known the word stupid.

QueenSconetta · 14/09/2010 21:39

OP, I think it depends on the context, but from what you have described YANBU.

I call DD (nearly 10 months) a 'grotbag' but only very clearly joking.

If she is being disgusting and is getting a bit of telling off, e.g. for taking a mouthful of food then putting her hands to her mouth, blowing a raspberry and spray food all over everywhere I tell her she is being a 'dirty girl', because she is!

PandaEis · 14/09/2010 21:52

she has heard a wide variety of 'naughty' wordsHmm not from me obvGrin

scottishmummy · 14/09/2010 21:58

whats a clampetts

MistsandMellowMilady · 14/09/2010 21:58

I am quite disturbed by the girl being sat in the library infront of the baby.

But then I am in a terrible mood.

YANBU.

I like the word "tramp"

It's a verb and a noun and I'm very tragic so I laugh at, "Mother hasn't gone for a tramp recently"

Grin
SirBoobAlot · 14/09/2010 22:04

YANBU :( Very sad. Have unfortunately heard this (and worse) before though. Typically people learn their parenting from watching their parents though, which makes it even more sad really.

MistsandMellowMilady · 14/09/2010 22:12

Jesus brassband that was uncalled for.

Ever heard of a boy being called bossy or too assertive? I can't think of an equivalent term for "little madam" which is pejorative.

Your DD sounds fantastic PandaEis. Long may she reign!
