Or am I just naive? and is every area the same.

I had a bit of an accident on the way home from the market after doing my shopping.

I let go of my phil & teds (to look at something in a shop window) with both the DD's in it and all my shopping. It rolled backwards and banged into a parked car. Both DD's were fine. I checked the car over and saw that there was a small dint where the buggy's second seat had hit the car.

So I went into the shop I was looking in to ask if they knew who's car it was. The guy worked in the shop. So I told him what had happened, apologized, obviously offered to pay for the damage gave him my details. Went round the corner to the to the garage which he said he usually uses and the mechanic came and had a look and said it would be £40.00.

I told him that I don't have the money today but will on Saturday at the latest. I will pop by and drop the money in. Also asked him to contact me if it ends up being more than £40.00 so I can bring him what it costs.
I have also took his details just in case.

FWIW if I didn't find the owner I was going to leave my details on the car anyway so still wouldn't have just walked or ran away.

Rang DH when I got home, he laughed at me and said only you could be so ditsy. It is true I am a bit ditsy, next time I will remember to put the bloody break on.

Just put it on my fb status to be told I should have run away, not told anyone and even been called stupid for owing up to my mistake. people have said it happens all the time in this area and I should have just walked away. I am not that kind of person and if this was my car (not that I have a car or even drive anyway) and the person who damaged it walked away, irrespective of how minor the damage was, I would be quite angry to be honest.

Was I wrong, should I have legged it!! Are most people immoral in this way?

BTino - I did actually update my FB status to "Restoring faith in humanity since 08.37" because I am hilarious.

I didn't start a MN thread because I wasn't on here then. Although I might have done, I start threads on all sorts of shit. I did one on my horrible hangover once.

Talking a wing mirror off is different. It is necessary.
A small dent has no effect on the machines functions

YunoYurbubson · 14/09/2010 14:31

I wish you had scraped all along my car while I was in the supermarket this morning OP, instead of the arsehole who did it and drove off without leaving a note.

mrsruffallo · 14/09/2010 14:31

Calm down, BTino
We have the moral high ground as we are not twats

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:32
Confused

What? I said you're being needlessly nasty because you are.

hmc said spikeycow deserved her name, not me?

Seriously. Get a grip on!

BarmyArmy · 14/09/2010 14:32

spikeycow - only those with money can afford morals...how very patronising!

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:33

Am I a TWAT then mrsruffallo?

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:34

I myself make a habit of banging into cars with my perfect bill and teds (oh sorry, that's the movie isn't it?) pram and then running off whilst cackling.

Or perhaps I don't. Perhaps I also own up, return dropped money and redeliver post that comes to me by mistake. Perhaps I just find that self-congratulatory people get on my rather large tits.

Tippychoocks · 14/09/2010 14:35

BTino, am right with you.
Much smuggery and mutual feathery stroking.

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:35

Grin at people not getting it at all. IF THE MONEY ISNT THERE what happens? Answer it. How does someone not having money make them immoral??

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:36

Oh this has cheered me up immensely!

See what you get when you try a bit of halo-polishing on mumsnet Grin

No-one likes a bragger, so go on now, put your halos away and just be content with feeling smug.

Unless of course you want to see who can give the biggest insults - the saints versus the sinners!

I do think this thread is incredibly self-congratulatory. The fact that it went on facebook and then on here smacks of someone digging for compliments. Sorry.

pagwatch · 14/09/2010 14:38

I was hoping a bill and teds was a device for mastabatory enhancement.

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:40

You'd think the "saints" wouldn't be into insults but they SO are.

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:40

Thank you Oscar Wilde!

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:40

pagwatch - I think I like you for that incredibly random thought!

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:45

I'm about to do the school run now, oh I do hope that some careless window shopper doesn't ram my gas-guzzling 4x4 with their mastabatory device!

Good job I can run them over with my huge bull bars, therefore lessening the risk of any unsightly dents.

Plus those halos do make such a satisfying crunch noise, rather like stepping on a snail shell.

Cartoose · 14/09/2010 14:46

Haha pag. I just read through this whole thread wondering what a "bill and teds" was.

pagwatch · 14/09/2010 14:50

I was equally confused when I used to see threads about a 'quinny buzz..'

Do you think manufacturers are competeing to see the most stupid thing they can call a pushchair and make people think it is aspirational?

I am going to launch the Paggy Cracktwat

zingzillachinchilla · 14/09/2010 14:51

I think the moral of this thread is stick with it, things improve with age!

Fairly smug to begin with, then a few catty remarks to get the creative juices flowing, culminating in suggestions for new entertaining devices! Genius. Grin

Hullygully · 14/09/2010 14:52

Haven't the schools gone back?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 14/09/2010 14:53

zingzillachinchilla · 14/09/2010 14:53

pagwatch - love the paggy cracktwat!

christie2 · 14/09/2010 19:42

Same thing happened to me, dinged a car with my car and only a tiny scratch. I did the same thing and told the owner (who turned out to be a pain in the you knnow where) but I still feel like my integrity was worth it. Funny, the other car owner was being such a twat, made me call the police. The police officer proceeded to lecture HIM on how lucky he was, most would just walk away (he was in the shop at the time and no one saw) and he should be thanking me. He shut up after that and even his wife looked pissed off (at him not me).
