Or am I just naive? and is every area the same.

I had a bit of an accident on the way home from the market after doing my shopping.

I let go of my phil & teds (to look at something in a shop window) with both the DD's in it and all my shopping. It rolled backwards and banged into a parked car. Both DD's were fine. I checked the car over and saw that there was a small dint where the buggy's second seat had hit the car.

So I went into the shop I was looking in to ask if they knew who's car it was. The guy worked in the shop. So I told him what had happened, apologized, obviously offered to pay for the damage gave him my details. Went round the corner to the to the garage which he said he usually uses and the mechanic came and had a look and said it would be £40.00.

I told him that I don't have the money today but will on Saturday at the latest. I will pop by and drop the money in. Also asked him to contact me if it ends up being more than £40.00 so I can bring him what it costs.
I have also took his details just in case.

FWIW if I didn't find the owner I was going to leave my details on the car anyway so still wouldn't have just walked or ran away.

Rang DH when I got home, he laughed at me and said only you could be so ditsy. It is true I am a bit ditsy, next time I will remember to put the bloody break on.

Just put it on my fb status to be told I should have run away, not told anyone and even been called stupid for owing up to my mistake. people have said it happens all the time in this area and I should have just walked away. I am not that kind of person and if this was my car (not that I have a car or even drive anyway) and the person who damaged it walked away, irrespective of how minor the damage was, I would be quite angry to be honest.

Was I wrong, should I have legged it!! Are most people immoral in this way?

People like you OP give me hope. Seriously! - if only more people had your integrity. Sadly, many don't.

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:16

It's not just a case of integrity though. It's also circumstance.

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:16

Yeah, I wish I knew more halo-polishing people who went about crowing to the world about how they are a lone saint amongst a world of immoral sinners.

Oh hang on I do know someone like that - my mother!

hmc · 14/09/2010 14:17

spikeycow - oh how your name suits you

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:17

What do you mean Shock I'm lovely!!

hmc · 14/09/2010 14:18

In fact a couple of you on this thread are behaving quite bizzarely with your uncalled for remarks. Mad.

mrsruffallo · 14/09/2010 14:19
Hmm
BTino · 14/09/2010 14:19

Don't worry spikeycow, here come the holierthanthou brigade.

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:22

I am making the point (which is a correct point) that not everyone would have the money just like that. Inner values have nothing to do with it.

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:23

Uh, I hit a parked car a few years ago, left a bit of a scrape at the front.

I had just come off benefits, didn't have any disposable income really, because I had to run a car in order to get to work, and I still left a note on the windscreen with my mobile number and name and apologised for the damage.

So, sorry, I don't agree that it's to do with having money or not having money - because, honestly I was bloody skint.

(The man whose car it was rang me and said not to worry he was just going to t-cut it out and that he was really surprised I'd left a note and that I'd restored his faith in humanity)

So BEND DOWN TO ME, SAINT SHIRLEY of KNOT

Nancy66 · 14/09/2010 14:23

they do if you're suggesting that a car owner can't be too badly off and therefore, fuck 'em, they can pay for the damage you've caused.

Are hmc and the OP one and the same?

Some serious questions:

Why not just say her pram rolled into the car? Why mention the brand name?

Why has no-one commented on the fact that she let go of the pram in the first place - what if it had rolled into the road?

Why put it on facebook and then do a mumsnet thread about it? What's your point?

Why does she not seem to know the difference between immoral and dishonest? Because there is one.

Why can't she spell 'brake'?

mrsruffallo · 14/09/2010 14:25

People are so funny about cars

hmc · 14/09/2010 14:25

Oh fgs BTino - of course not Hmm

mrsruffallo · 14/09/2010 14:25

BTino- that's what I thought

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:25

Whatever. I wouldn't have had the money to pay it all in one go. That's it.

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:26

WTF BTino?

Can you smell burned toast or anything?

You're being really needlessly nasty.

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:26

Saint Shirley - did you update your fb status with what you had done and then start a mumsnet discussion accusing most people in your 'area' of being immoral?

spikeycow · 14/09/2010 14:26

Grin at the turn this thread has taken

hmc · 14/09/2010 14:27

Shirley - you must be the OP...and also me.. too? Grin

(since you are disagreeing with BTino and agreeing with OP)

ShirleyKnot · 14/09/2010 14:28

nor would I spikey. Still left a note though. Some cunt took the wing mirror off my poor old banger once and it cost me my dinners for a week. That's wasn't fair either.

mrsruffallo · 14/09/2010 14:29

I think BTino is hilarious
But then we are the same person

BTino · 14/09/2010 14:30

Needlessly nasty? Who suggested that spikeycow suited her name? She's entitled to her opinion isn't she? Oh I'm sorry! I get it now! This isn't a forum for opinions at all! It's a private thread for self-congratulations only.

Oops, I feel all embarrassed now! Blush

hmc · 14/09/2010 14:30

My assessment of BTino is...shall we say...at variance to yours?
