to just not "get" Twitter?

Bellagio · 12/09/2010 22:39

I feel like such an old fart writing this but I just don't get it. What's the attraction? Is it a bit like having your own blog famousness or is it just people lke being able to contact celebrities?
What is so great about it? What are so many people twittering about ?
Would anybody that is an enthusiastic user (is this the right word? Or are you called a twitter?....see- clueless) like to come along and educate me in this strange world I know nothing of?
Or am I intact NBU and the rest of you are as much in the dark as me?

I've read the "idiots gude to Twitter" and still don't get it Blush

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/09/2010 21:33

Only way to 'get' it is to join in, IME.

BudaisintheZONE · 13/09/2010 21:41

Am following you too now I think. Looked at your list and have added some of them to follow.

DS very impressed at me being on twitter and now he wants to join and follow footballers and wrestlers!

daftpunk · 13/09/2010 21:45

Yanbu; I find it really dull, (much prefer facebook.) I'm on it, but only look at it for about 10 minutes a day.... that's enough....and nothing to do with who I'm following, I follow all the top people, it just doesn't do it for me.

poshsinglemum · 13/09/2010 21:53

yanbu; I was going to start this thread last week.

justonemorethen · 13/09/2010 21:55

Don't get it.
I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it...who the hell thought twitter was a good name.

Don't get Facebook either though - just use it as an address book for people who I don't need in my life but like to remember.

Bellagio · 14/09/2010 00:37

Well it seems there are a fair few other twitterless souls out there!
I'm not a dinosaur honest, I can while away a shocking amount of time on MN or FB given half a chance but I don't think Twitter is going to add anything extra as far as I can make out.
Probably a blessing in disguise, it'd be just one more thing to play about with on the iPhone avoiding the ironing/washing up/cleaning......

Dont bother with celebs, THey never reply to you and are on the whole, dull

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 16:40

Ed Miliband PM'd me.....

cherylvole · 14/09/2010 16:40

its fabulous

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 16:40

Still think it's dull

cherylvole · 14/09/2010 16:41

its like saying talking is dull, depend to WHOM you talketh

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 16:47

The people I find interesting on twitter I have on facebook, so maybe that's why I can't be bothered with it. But it's great for news.

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 18:08

I can understand why celebs can't reply to everyone, but they could have a public account and make general replies, or specific ones if you are lucky, and then private accounts under a cryptic user name, (or hide their tweets) for their friends. But they seem to chat away to their friends (and only their friends, who almost all seem famous as well) using public tweets which seems a bit LOOK AT ME, to me.

daftpunk · 14/09/2010 18:24

Deffo; exhibitionists in the extreme, 'oh look at all the witty interesting conversations I have with my mates'

Who gives a toss? Apart from saddos with no life of their own. ....... And as for M'netters chatting to each other on there.....W.T.F....?

All the best conversations are had in private.....fact.

cherylvole · 14/09/2010 19:06

you see i dont get facebook
seemed anoying and people pouting into bacardi breezers.
twtitter shorter, wittier and i have made new online " mates"
horses courses

piscesmoon · 14/09/2010 19:32

I don't get it either. I haven't found anyone remotely interesting to follow-it seems utterly pointless and boring.

nikkershaw · 14/09/2010 19:33

who gives a shit, you don't like, you don't like.

facebook is a bit childish imo Wink

nikkershaw · 14/09/2010 19:34

and twitter doesn't have people making their own 'farm's' (wtf!)

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 19:40

My DH has an iPad and I swear he's bloody obsessed with his farm! He goes on the loo first thing in the morning ans sits there fiddling with his cabbages. I don't think it's the FB one though, its a different one.

Bellagio · 14/09/2010 19:46

Lol at fiddling with his cabbages!
The farm crap does my head in on FB, all these "please send me 5 goats so I can buy a haystack" requests. No. Piss off.

OP posts:
nikkershaw · 14/09/2010 19:46

i wonder if world of warcraft has a farm Grin

Bellagio · 14/09/2010 19:50

I've not ever looked at world of Warcraft cos apparently if you even take a peek you are glued to your computer screen 24/7 for the next 15 years and then your eyeballs drop out

OP posts:
nikkershaw · 14/09/2010 19:54

pmsl - that's actually true bellagio Grin

rey · 14/09/2010 20:02

YANBU
IMO
Mumsnet is more than enough for me!

Can't see how I would live my life if I was into all these other things too.
I live in the real world and talk to real friends and family. That takes up all my time and there are still not enough hours in the day. |Just don't see how anyone can be involved in all these things and get on with living.
