To not CRB check my friends

It's DD's birthday in a few weeks. We're doing the whole hall hire, bouncy castle etc party. DD wanted a facepainter. the prices were ridiculous so I've asked a few artistic friends to do it. But I've had a couple of other parents ask me if my friends have been CRB checked! AIBU to think they're being OTT?

The majority of people who abuse children never have a criminal record and you'd never know they had a problem.

The trick is to educate children to never keep secrets and to know that their bodies are private and that they must tell you if they ever feel under threat from anybody.

Exactly, ilovehens :)

tell the parents to get a bloody grip.. honestly what a bloody silly palaver.. what is the country coming to.. as Jim Royale would say, 'crb checks my arse'..

That's insane!

So what are they going to do when their little darlings are hairy, insolent teenagers who disappear off with friends on their own and get up to all sorts?

Trying to manage who they mix with to that degree is a recipe for disaster - now and when they are older.

Of course we all take precautions with our children, but showing that lack of trust with their friends is hardly a good lesson from these parents. Seems that the parents will do more damage to their wellbeing than any stranger!

Oh I'd love to be a fly on the wall when their DCs are older...

I wish some of the parents had asked that when my sister roped me in to face paint for her DS's birthday party. I did it for three solid hours! And nothing but a marmite sandwich for my trouble. I could have got out of it if I'd needed one Angry

Sorry to thread hijack..but blueberry..you do not NEED a CRB check to work as a face painter..it is more important to have public liability insurance..I have been running a childrens party company and entertainment agency for 4 years and spend most of my time educating clients who ask for CRB checks that as far as Im concerned..they are a waste of time..and that parents should never leave their children alone with an entertainer anyway..there is no law that says a face painter/entertainer must be CRB checked..and it infuriates me that clients seem more concerned with having a painter who is CRB checked than having a painter who is a member of a professional assc and adheres to a code of conduct, exercises strict hygeine and has PLI.. do you insist your hairdresser is CRB checked!

Julybutterfly..the parents are being ridiculous..ignore them..however if you are going to engage the services of your friends...do make sure they use proper professional face paints, exercise strict hygeine and dont paint children under 2, ill children or anyone with an infectious skin condition..that way your party will run smoothly
