to dice the courgettes

I like to chop a courgette thus:

  • lengthways
  • then lengthways again
(so now I have four long pieces, are you with me)
  • then each piece chop roughly every 1cm or so

this gives you evenly shaped courgette 'dice' about 1cm in each direction..perfect for frying in olive oil and garlic.

AIBU? (because Mrs Stubborn doesn't chop like this)

erm, how does she want it chopped?

ethelina · 10/09/2010 16:03

Yep YABtotallyU. You should do as you're told.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/09/2010 16:05

How the hours must fly by...

Rosedee · 10/09/2010 16:05

Yanbu so long as you don't expect mrs stubborn to do it the same way. She can chop however she wants to. Must admit did feel strange sense of peace as I imagined neatly chopped up courgette. [Grin]

JaneS · 10/09/2010 16:05

Go for it, it's how I do it.

Also bollocks to doing what you're told - why should you?

nickelbabe · 10/09/2010 16:07

no, it's a good way to chop your courgette.
as per another thread about a back seat cook - tell her if she doesn't like it she can do it her self.

Bumperlicious · 10/09/2010 16:08

I have to grate courgette to hide it from DD

narkypuffin · 10/09/2010 16:08

Down with vegetable facsism.

Chop freely.

usualsuspect · 10/09/2010 16:08

courgettes are nasty,so yabu for eating them

diddl · 10/09/2010 16:10

Well, if you want chopped courgettes then I would say that´s a good way to do it.

If you are wanting slices on the other hand......

KurriKurri · 10/09/2010 16:13

I sometimes chop them your way, sometimes I slice into discs or julienne or slanty shaped bits.

There aren't any rules as far as I know, I would guess if MrsStubborn is doing it another way, she may be trying (successfully) to wind you up.

Whatever the case, break free from your chopping chains and try something different.Grin

stubbornhubby · 10/09/2010 16:18

Mrs Stubborn chops her courgetes chunky julienne style .

I am relieved to report, however, that discs do not feature in her repertoire. (discs are so very 1970s, don't you think?)

Probably - I'm ancient/stylishly retro Grin

Wafer thin discs slowly fried in butter.

Dice as an ingredient for veggi chilli etc.

Big wedges for ratatouille.

ethelina · 10/09/2010 16:30

Surprise her - cut them into little star shapes.

narkypuffin · 10/09/2010 16:30

Slices cut into Trivial Pursuit wedges for when the dog ate the science 'cheese' (Genus edition)

nickelbabe · 10/09/2010 17:15

ooh, star shapes are agood! Grin

Rachiesparrow · 10/09/2010 19:16

courgettes should always be sliced in discs. It is the law.

VictorianIce · 10/09/2010 19:24

What is this dice-chopping heresy?
You are being very disrespectful to the disc-slicing traditionalists.

TartyMcFarty · 10/09/2010 19:36

I'm kinda the opposite to you although the outcome is strikingly similar. I chop mine into 1cm thick discs (measured with a ruler), then chop a pile of discs into quarters.

Don't you find that when you're chopping lengthways the knife goes awry and you end up with unwieldly slivers?

stubbornhubby · 10/09/2010 19:40

i have a special left handed knife.

oooooooh. Grin

JorrisBohnson · 11/09/2010 10:24

Do them into heart shapes and present her with them formed into the words 'I love you'. See her try and complain about them then (or vomit through your corniness).
