The amount of times I have heard 'Anyone who says that their child sleeps 12 hours a night is a liar' is really starting to get on my nerves...

My 10mo DOES sleep 12 hours a night. She also eats most foods, mostly plays well with other children and is generally quite happy. I know other people who have babies who sleep 12 hours. It can happen. I do not claim that this is due to any brilliant parenting, some of us are just lucky. We are not, however, liars!

Nothing wrong with praying for a bit of luck, or for appreciating it while it lasts. She will probably be the world's worst teenager.

Disclaimer: Do not brag about the sleep, but do tell people if they ask. Sorry if you are a sleep deprived mum reading this, your child might be an easy toddler...

YANBU - the whole 'bbies aren't ment to sleep through' well...

all three of mine have so far proved to sleep very well from reasonably early on (about 6-8 weeks) cusing me to wake up wih norks like bowling balls.

touches weird, as 3rd baby hasn;t hit 6 weeks, but is still only waking once a night

This thread has made me roar Grin

I would believe someone who told me their baby slept, why wouldn't I?

But whoever said that it's not down to luck it's because they worked hard on having a routine has made me GrinGrinGrin (not a personal attack here btw)

All 3 of my DC have been of the non sleeping variety. If only I'd tried harder eh? Maybe when DC4 is born I'll put in the extra effort and he'll sleep Wink

Well I'm very pleased for you, but it is sheer luck. DS1 slept 12 hours a night, every night from 7 months and like a log. DS2 did it from about 12 weeks. DS3, now 15 months, has only been sleeping through, for about 10 days!! We say that he like Macbeth, 'murders sleep'!!! I haven't done anything differently and fwiw, he is an adorable and very well behaved baby, not like DS1 who I used to sometimes put to bed at 5.30 in the afternoon because i'd had enough and knew he would sleep through; he just does not like to sleep!!! I so sympathise with you 'Wonka'.

btw Casserole, we too worked hard at a routine with all three and in particular with DS3, but not all children are equal when it comes to sleep; we worked bloody hard too, and probably harder!!!

StantonHarcourtTheThird · 07/09/2010 22:01

We had a geat sleeper first and never took it forgranted. he stopped having his 3 am feed at about 6 weeks and it shifted to 4am then for each week we gained about 15 minutes to that longer sleep, it was bliss.

When DS2 came along and wanted to feed 9, 12 3 & 6am until he was 7 months old it was a bit of a shocker! But then I hear friends saying their 14 month old is still waking in the night and realise that I have been lucky with both boys when it comes to sleep.

Am I the only one who lied about their sleeping baby so as to join in with the sleepless cameraderie of other new parents? Grin

krldt0710 · 07/09/2010 22:18

YANBU. My DS has always slept really well. usually going 12 hours (or more) at night and having between 2-4 hours in the day. Everyone was convinced I would not get another baby as good as him but DD is just as fab. Admittedly it was rough when she was a newborn as she preferred to cluster feed through the night. But now the both of them sleep in the same room and they also share bedtimes and nap times.

Sorry to sound as if I am bragging to those of you who may not be so lucky. My niece isn't as easy going so I have a vague idea of how it feels to be on the other side.

Claw3 · 07/09/2010 22:19

Ds2 did nothing but sleep when he was a baby, i actually took him to the GP because i thought something was wrong!

He was still having a morning and afternoon nap at 3 years old and i wondered how on earth he would be able to stay awake long enough to go to nursery.

He is now 14 years old and still loves his sleep, he is in bed by 9pm every night and asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

My other two ds's make up for it though.

elinorbellowed · 08/09/2010 09:13

Those of us with non-sleepers are so sleep-deprived and jealous that we tell ourselves parents of sleepers are liars to make us feel better! I wouldn't say it to your face though!! Wink
PS My ten-month old has been sleeping 11 hours a night for the last two months and has picked this week, the week I go back to work to wake at two each night and stay awake, and wake her older brother. I feel like the living dead..................

nickschic · 08/09/2010 09:14
