I would like to find a PC word to descibe it, but basically it's lower class isn't it?

Why o why would someone do it to themselves or even worse to their children?

It's like a tribal stamp - marking you out as someone to kept away from.

YANBU, it looks horrible. Haven't seen it around for years though, it was rife a few years ago. We are in SE London though, perhaps your area is a bit behind?

horsemadgal · 03/09/2010 23:29

My DS1 went through that spell. Glad its passed.
But its just another fashion. Could be lots worse I reckon.

SirBoobAlot · 03/09/2010 23:29

I remember my brother begging my mum to put some lines in his hair. It was all the rage a few years back.

Personally I don't like it, but think its a bit Hmm to say its lower class. All the boys at the time had it done, regardless of class. Though you could tell the mothers who had done it willingly, and the ones who, like my mum, had done it purely to prevent said child attempting to do it themselves.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/09/2010 23:47

It's not something I'd choose for DS but I thing each to their own and I think OP was a bit judgey.

O/10 OP ...try child ear-piercing for a good bun fight Wink

SunnyDays06 · 03/09/2010 23:53

It looks even worse when the eyebrow is matching!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/09/2010 23:57

It's at bit late for a bun fight isn't it usuals - do you really think that's what the OP's motive is?

Confused (and suckered)

usualsuspect · 04/09/2010 00:06

I don't care ..I hate the pageboy look on a boy but each to their own

FunnysInTheGarden · 04/09/2010 00:08

I like the stuck up just got out of bed hair look which DS seems to sport most morns

usualsuspect · 04/09/2010 00:10

DS has the long emo fringe thing going on ...is that ok op?

MrsRhettButler · 04/09/2010 00:13

no, it is not usualsuspect... you are obviously of a lower class than the rest of us

tethersend · 04/09/2010 00:19

What if you get a section of a Roman Frieze cut into your hair? Or the Boden logo? Is it still chavvy then?

I think we should be told.

FunnysInTheGarden · 04/09/2010 00:20

Grin no tether then tis art innit

Rockbird · 04/09/2010 00:26

Which boy?

MadAboutQuavers · 04/09/2010 00:28

Sorry, I agree with the OP.

It looks cheap and nasty, and there's no way my DS would be allowed to have it done. Hmm

LaraJade · 04/09/2010 07:57

A good looking lad (mid 20s) at my gym has his hair shaved into swirls. He's well groomed, he's nice with a good job (ok i like him) + NOT a chav. IMO short hair looks better than the scruffy indie band look. On small boys i think v short hair is better than girly longer hair. So YABU.

lillybloom · 04/09/2010 08:02

The lines have made a recurrance in our area. Luckily my DS prefers the emo look. Although my dad keeps telling him to get a haircut cos he looks like a scruff. Ds has a friends with lines cut into his hair, and my dad is always commenting on how neat and tidy he looks!

ShadeofViolet · 04/09/2010 08:09

Another inflammatory thread by this OP.

Really should try harder though, no-one is going to get really worked up by this, even if you throw in a little class divide angle.

DetectivePotato · 04/09/2010 12:19

YANBU, don't care if it is a purposely inflammatory thread. It looks bloody awful and it is chavvy.

Saw a boy only yesterday with a very elaborate pattern on the side of his head and I pointed out to DH how much I hate it. We were driving through an awful part of town too.

Sorry but little Quentins who go to private schools don't have hairstyles like this, therefore it is chavvy. Same goes for horrible little pony tales at the back with it all shaved on top.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 04/09/2010 12:34

I wouldn't like it on a 5yo as is parental choice and odd imo, children should look like children.

But on a teenager plus it is just experimantation and the reason you don't like it is because you are old.

deaddei · 04/09/2010 13:49

lol the Boden logo
I have to admit I don't like them, especially on primary children.
But then I don't particularly like long hair on boys either. Or pageboys.
(nothing like a short back and sides)

Morloth · 04/09/2010 13:51

I kind of like it, can't see it going down well at DS1's school though and I am not brave enough to do my own.

starynight · 04/09/2010 14:00

This is the fashion in our school at the moment lots of litttle boys have it done here. My 6 yr old has his cut into a v shape at the back with swirls on one sid3 and zigzags the other cant see how that makes him lower class and hes certainly not a chav

usualsuspect · 04/09/2010 14:05

But do you live in an 'awful part of town' ? starynight Wink
