to think it's sad to hear young children using their parent's first names rather than mummy and daddy

Following on from the other thread, I know of a couple whose young children call them "Janet" and "John" (not real names obv). They say it is because they are their children's best friends but I find it dreadfully sad especially when they are so young (both under 8).

Is it just me or would you find it sad too? Or do you insist on your children calling you by your first name?

My name is my name, mummy is a job description.
I don't mind which my son uses, he uses either.

my ds is 3 and calls me and dp by our nicknames, it drives me nearly insane.

dd picked up on it briefly and now rarely does it, she is 21mnths, she only uses our names when angry, rest of the time we are mummy and deeedeee, hehe.

i hate it even more since out of habbit i corrected ds in public and some lovely old dear said, 'i hate it when young mums force children to call there latest partner daddy' he is his farking daddy, flesh blood and everything in between, he is his daddys mini me which made it even more irksome.

im praying for the day its out grown and i am mum or mummy to them both.

my dd alternates between the usual mum/ mummy but she also calls me babydoll as thats what her dad calls me, she is 4. as for my ds 20 months he calls everyone dada including me even though he knows how to say mummy, which by the way he has only said once. i stick to mum/ dad when chatting to the parents and i call my grandma by her name.

DS calls me all kinds of things. As long as he never calls me Sir, I'm happy.

My youngest son went throughh a short phase of calling me by my first name when he was about 2.

One day my dh had picked him up and was holding him and ds pointed at me and said "hello lady"!!!
