Selling children's t shirts saying 'mum
says I'm on the short bus because I'm special' and 'I keep telling you I'm not a retard'
what do you think- should I fire bomb the place or just write to the md. Or both?

OP posts:
wahwahwah · 18/08/2010 16:17

There's no need for that at all. Just nasty. Who would put their child in one?

SoupDragon · 18/08/2010 16:18

WTF???!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/08/2010 16:20

What's the 'short bus'?

MorrisZapp · 18/08/2010 16:20

Those slogans are truly vile, but I suppose what's really outrageous is that there must be (???) a market for this stuff.

At the end of the day, the slogans are shocking and offensive, and there will always be an element who think that 'sticking 2 fingers up at pc' or whatever is funny or cool.

sanielle · 18/08/2010 16:21

Fire bombing may be very slightly over the top, but otherwise YANBU

sanielle · 18/08/2010 16:22

Short bus is an american thing. We have the big yellow school buses that take kids to school, the special needs kids would take a short bus. You guys dont have specific school buses so it doesnt really make any sense here anyway

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/08/2010 16:22

A swift kick to the manager to think to display the T-shirts should do it.

I can't believe that someone even unpacking the shirts could think the use of the word 'retard'was appropriate or remotely funny....

I would speak to the manager and take it further

seeker · 18/08/2010 16:25

Why is firebombing over the top? They aren't baby sizes, just to clarify- my 9 year old found one his size and was horrified- but no smaller than that.

OP posts:
princesspuds · 18/08/2010 16:31

I have just looked on their website and didn't see the retard one, but I was really Shock when I saw a couple of TODDLER shirts, one said "are you my daddy" and the other had "broken condom" written on it.....Seriously WTF ?????

wahwah · 18/08/2010 16:32

'Retard' is also very American. Did you go in and complain? You might wish to speak to tjeanagement company too- I can't imagine they'll be pleased that disablist clothing is being sold in their shopping centre.

pagwatch · 18/08/2010 16:34

I very rarely get angry about t-shirts that adults wear because part of me thinks it is a good way of identifying wankers.

Butthe idea that a company is making these for children is breathtaking. Good God , how would my DD feel if one of her peers wore one of these on mufti day?

Unbelievable

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/08/2010 16:35

Ew. How...amusing Hmm And of course if anyone with a disability/child with a disability sees these they will absolutely piss themselves laughing. They won't feel upset, or humiliated, or mocked. Not at all

melikalikimaka · 18/08/2010 16:43

I can't think of anyone I know that would wear them, can't sell many. My DS1 used to have 'I'm with stupid' tshirt and that's as far as it would go. Not funny or clever. YANBU.

wahwah · 18/08/2010 16:48

I just looked at the website and couldn't see the t-shirts, but wad viewing on the iPhone, so may have missed it.

Seeker, how are you going to take this forward?

wahwah · 18/08/2010 16:52

I'm only asking because if you're going to firebomb I may have to find somewhere else to take dd for her shoes!

pebblejones · 18/08/2010 16:52

Seriously? Who on Earth would put their DC in tshirts with any of these slogans?!

ShadeofViolet · 18/08/2010 16:59

YANBU.

I have a couple of D&G T-shirts as does DD, but we wont be wearing them anymore!

pagwatch · 18/08/2010 17:01

I have written to them. Not something I would normally do but these are childrens t-shirts.
I am shocked and considered myself unshockable.

Glitterknickaz · 18/08/2010 17:03

It's disgusting how disablism doesn't appear to be a crime.

Nemofish · 18/08/2010 17:07

I agree, totally not acceptable.

cupcakesandbunting · 18/08/2010 17:08

Very tasteless and wankerish, really. Bleugh.

princesspuds · 18/08/2010 17:15

I have just gone onto their website and complained, asking if they thought that their sales for those products would outweigh the complaints they would get from parents/carers of disabled family members.

I have a disabled child and although some of their stuff is amusing, I would not purchase any of their stuff out of principle now.

2kids2dogsandahorse · 18/08/2010 19:19

I like D&G usually but WTF were they thinking of [shocked]

On a lighter note when Gymboree first opened up I found a lovely pale blue girls tshirt with a fairy waving a wand on the front...

... sadly the word underneath was...

.... POOF! Grin
