I have the EU ironing mountain hiding in my utility room. It has tried to escape out of the door a few times, but I have managed to wedge the door shut now.

AIBU to ignore the wails of unironed clothes and mumsnet all afternoon?

Try lowering your standards- hey presto! The problem disappears.

domesticsluttery · 18/08/2010 15:10

I actually have the ironing board up next to me...

I am ironing everything ready to pack for Center Parcs next week. I have piles of clothes all over every available surface.

I am doing myself a deal. For every 10 items of clothing that I iron, I get 10 mins on MN Grin

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2010 15:12

yes you slattern some of us are working our fingers to the bone this afternoon oh if only I only had a mountain of ironing to do you don't know you're born. I haven't had time to wee all day.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 18/08/2010 15:12

I was just coming on to sugesst exactlY what domesticsluttery is doing.

If you leave it you'll only have a sneaking feeling of guilt. Work a wee bit away an d you'll feel better for it.

domesticsluttery · 18/08/2010 15:14

7 minutes to go.

Am wondering whether I have time for a cup of tea, or whether that should wait until my next post ironing 10 minute slot. Also will have to leave PC to boil kettle.

tethersend · 18/08/2010 15:14

Put it all in the wardrobe. It stops being ironing and becomes clean clothes.

bottyburpthebarbarian · 18/08/2010 15:15

Shake and fold. Shake and fold.

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2010 15:17

of course I am lying, and agree with tethersend
you do not have an ironing mountain - you have a mountain of clean clothes - well done you!

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2010 15:17

don't know bottyburp, sounds like a lot of effort :o

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 18/08/2010 15:23

Definitely shake and fold as much as possible fresh from the line/dryer. But, if it's been sat in an ironing pile it'll be so dry and creased that re-washing ironing is the only solution.

I only ever iron things that must be done, between the 4 of us it comes to a total of not more that 15 or 20 items. I try to avoid buying things that absolutely have to ironed and try to dissuade the family from wearing the few things there are. On average I iron or or two items a week. Bliss.

EveWasFramed72 · 18/08/2010 15:27

Just do what I do...make DH do all his own ironing, and only iron the stuff that's absolutely necessary...why are you ironing clothes to go on holiday, anyway?? Surely...just t-shirts, shorts, jeans, etc.?? Please tell me you don't IRON regular clothes...

EveWasFramed72 · 18/08/2010 15:28

Yeah...the only things that need ironing in this house are DHs work shirts...what the heck are people ironing that they have 20 items a week????

agedknees · 18/08/2010 15:31

Right, will do 10 mins ironing, 10 mins mumsnetting. (Off to set up the ironing board).

bottyburpthebarbarian · 18/08/2010 15:33

I feel compelled to point this out.

I have 4DCs and when I was with the ex there was him too.

All the kids had school shirts, two in white, two in blue.

XH had to wear suit every day

Plus my work stuff

The ironing was horrific.

Now I am the worlds best shaker and folder and even bunger in the drier for 10 mins take out warm and hanger upper

SpringHeeledJack · 18/08/2010 15:34

I prefer to think of mumsnetting as being like the sort of rural handicraft our grandmothers' grandmothers might have done in the 1800.

sort of like spinning or knitting or needlepoint or weaving or something- if you will

this slight perception adjustment I have made means I can do it till my eyes bleed whenever I like

so YANBU

domesticsluttery · 18/08/2010 15:55

I'm ironing to go on holiday because I've been really lazy organised and the DC have worn the same 3 outfits on rotation all summer (wear - wash - dry - shake - wear). I now need to pack for a week and so have to dig out the clothes that have been shoved stored in the airing cupboard for months a while and so are creased.

No doubt entirely futile as they will crease again in the case!

sapphireblue · 18/08/2010 16:52

I have spent the DDs nap time on here instead of cooking up batches of food for them to be frozen Blush. Beans on toast for tea, anyone?

EveWasFramed72 · 18/08/2010 16:53

Ok. I just did DHs shirts as a favour to him....he normally does them himself. It took me 30 minutes. That is all the ironing we have in total...I really can't grasp what other stuff is being ironed that takes so much time??? And why don't DHs do some of the stuff that they wear?? Never understood that logic at all...I iron my own work stuff, he irons his. Sorted. DCs are too young for proper shirts for school, but will also do their own once they are old enough to reach the ironing board! :)

domesticsluttery · 18/08/2010 17:06

Well this afternoon I have ironed:

35 shirts/t-shirts and 25 pairs jeans/shorts.

Do I get a medal? Grin

agedknees · 18/08/2010 17:41

Have ironed 5 work uniforms for me - pain in the neck because of all the pleats in the back etc. Have ironed 2 sets of king size bedding (ours and dd's).

Found a load of dd's clothes in the bottom of the ironing mountain and did those (dd is 21).

Having a nice cup of tea and a choc biccie now.

Heracles · 18/08/2010 17:51

Who irons t-shirts??

Morloth · 18/08/2010 17:52

The only thing that gets ironed here is DH's work shirts.

So not doing anything else.

Heracles · 18/08/2010 18:04

Come to think of it, who irons jeans??

You people = crazy people.

SparkleRainbow · 18/08/2010 18:07

I have stuffed all my ironing in my tumble drier, it is all dry and clean and neatly folded (well as neatly folded as can be for washing stuffed in td) ready for ironing, but I can't see it any more which is a bonus. Thought I was being clever with this strategy, now realise I should have just hung it all up straight away, as clean washing, and made myself a cup of tea!

SparkleRainbow · 18/08/2010 18:09

Have to add there are no jeans, etc in my ironing pile, really that is like ironing tea towels, which my mum still does!
