I have the EU ironing mountain hiding in my utility room. It has tried to escape out of the door a few times, but I have managed to wedge the door shut now.

AIBU to ignore the wails of unironed clothes and mumsnet all afternoon?

I find ironing relaxing! Even DH's pants. Am i alone?

FellatioNelson · 18/08/2010 18:14

I've been ignoring everything I need to do for the whole of the school holidays so far in favour of MN. It's getting ridiclous TBH. I need to get a grip. I might have an instigate a trial separation come September.

Hulababy · 18/08/2010 18:14

I don't normally iron at all. It is DH's job. However we got back from holiday last week ad have washed but not got round to ironing yet. So, I have been nice - I have spent two hours this afternoon ironing and have almost emptied the basket, bar DH's work shirts. He had better be greatful Wink

SparkleRainbow · 18/08/2010 18:23

Pants ethelina pants.....!!I could maybe understand you saying ironing is relaxing, but pants......I hope you are alone, and whatismore I think you should come and join the rest of us, and have a cup of tea. Grin

Ragwort · 18/08/2010 18:26

Why are you ironing your 21 year old DD's clothes and bedding Hmm ?

ethelina · 18/08/2010 18:39

Nice tight jockeys... Just can't cope with seeing a crease on them as I fold and put them away. Love bedding aswell. And teatowels, dishcloths, babygros, muslins, ironing creases into trousers,......................................................................................................................................................... oh, sorry I was dreaming a bit there, was anyone offering a cup of tea? Grin

fandango75 · 18/08/2010 20:32

is this for real?

not all of us ditch an afternoon of responsibilities to piss about on mumsnet.

what do you tell your children and partner you have been doing all day? Nothing whatsoever? Or do you lie?

Neither are great

domesticsluttery · 18/08/2010 20:40

My children have gone to my mum's for 2 days.

I spent the morning cleaning the house and then sorting out clothes to pack for our holiday.

I am a nursery school teacher so don't work during holidays, and haven't got any prep work which urgently needs doing.

So I don't feel too guilty about spending a bit of time on MN in between ironing!

Oh, and if DH asks me what I've been doing all day I'll suggest he irons and packs his own clothes Grin

SparkleRainbow · 19/08/2010 17:45

ethelina - you're not still ironing pants are you? Kettle is on!

namechange100 · 19/08/2010 17:53

DS on Wii too....Grin

namechange100 · 19/08/2010 17:54

not you are not

SparkleRainbow · 19/08/2010 17:59

Just shoved more ironing in my tumble drier out of sight, out of mind, but I did carefully fold all the bedding as I got it off the line earlier....I was thinking of you guys. Grin

namechange - absolutely no point in ironing for camping holiday, it will all be damp and crumpled anyway by the first morning, have a cup of tea instead. (well done on cutting the grass, I painted my ds's bedrrom ceiling earlier so feeling virtuous) saintly emote needed

Who the hell does ironing?

ethelina · 19/08/2010 18:46

Lovely, white, strong, no sugar please. All pants ironed and crease-free, all bedding done and muslins folded into neat squares.

PS What is it with all the tea you offering Sparkle? Are you putting something in it? Grin

BraveGirl · 19/08/2010 18:59

Sadly, i'm with you ethelina! I feared i was alone in ironing bliss!! Things don't feel right without nice sharp creases. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 20/08/2010 10:23

Nothing but decaf in that tea I am afraid.... and too early to start on the white wine even for me! Very British, if in doubt put the kettle on!

(PS ironing will no longer fit in tumble drier as too full, please choose from following options, should I:

  1. start ironing it
  2. just fold it up crumpled into dc drawers
  3. stop washing so am producing no more ironing)
LucindaCarlisle · 20/08/2010 10:31

Ironing is So last century.

Apparently, The Queen Mother went into someones house, and there was an Ironing Board leaning up in the Corner. The Queen mother pointed at it and said "What is that"

ethelina · 20/08/2010 11:12

I would say 1, followed swiftly by 3.

Dare say she would have recognised it if in the shape of Dubonnais bottle. Perhaps thats what should be in the tea?

namechange100 · 20/08/2010 11:40

Shock Boooo hoooo

I have had a lie in and just had brunch (very nice mushrooms and gouda on toast with a touch of salad cream and mustard - just like them ones in M&S) and I have to face up to the fact

Im throwing down the iron...she who dares

ethelina · 20/08/2010 12:06

Are you replacing ironing with eating? Can I join you on the eating?

Ironing later, just cleaned kitchen floor. Think am entitled now to that cupotea and jamontoast.

Yeah.

Smile
Lynli · 20/08/2010 12:12

I have just got back from holiday and done all of the washing. The ironing is in the ironing basket in the laundry cupboard. If you can't see it, it doesn't matter. There is no school or work next week so no deadline to finish it.

I am sitting here with the breakfast plates still on the table.

MN cured my OCD where the medical profession failed.

SparkleRainbow · 20/08/2010 16:01

Yeah for the wonders of mn Lynli! Grin

I have followed your advice to the letter, ethelina, have ironed overflow that will no longer fit in tumble drier, and stopped washing for today.....ok rain may have had something to do with that, but what the elements determine I will follow ....this time anyway. Smile

Could quite happily take up eating chocolate in replacement for ironing, but feel obliged to point out that none of the Royal family would know what an ironing board looks like surely, don't they have people to ensure their clothes disappear after removal only to be found the next day hanging in the wardrobe ready for wear.....or do they wear clothes more than once anyway? Wink

namechange100 · 29/08/2010 11:53

Oh pleased your kinda still here (and erm your ironing)

Well I didnt do mine last friday - and DH and I HAD to do it on Saturday as we were going on hols. I was so tired it nearly finished me off and I vovwed never to let it get this bad again.

I am doing FLYLADY and have got good routines (well they are better) but the ironing is proving slippery....

I am now back from holidays and have a wall of washing along side the kitchen units.

My ironing pile will soon be back - like the terminator!

OOOOOOhhhh and I have DH work shirts this week
