in telling power woman to sod off

for telling me it serves me right for not breast feeding.Angry

When I rang to report a power failure at home this morning I said I was concerned that 5 month old lo would be needing a feed soon and I had no way of boiling water.

She then had the unmitigated (love that word) gall to say "well how was I to know that" when I explained that lo is fostered with us.

No, she wouldn't have known but didn't excuse her horrible manner.

I've rang back and asked to speak to a manager who will ring me back "within 3 working days"Angry

blimey that is so out of order!!!
hope you're connected again now.

sloanypony · 18/08/2010 11:13

Did she honestly seriously say "it serves you right for not breastfeeding"?

Honestly?

Is that exactly, verbatim, how she worded it?

No, you are not being unreasonable.
Nobody from the power company has any right at all to judge or comment on any aspects of your private life.
Their only responsibility is to give you the electricity that you pay for.

BuzzingNoise · 18/08/2010 11:14

that is shocking.

VinegarTits · 18/08/2010 11:16

Shock god what a cheeky bitch!, i would be complaining to head office never mind a manager!

SwanseaSlapper · 18/08/2010 11:17

Thats utterly disgusting. Which power company? Why oh why don't people name and shame

Kaloki · 18/08/2010 11:17

That's horrific! Definitely go to head office

Greensleeves · 18/08/2010 11:18

did you tell her to sod off?

I would be baying for her blood Angry

EarthMotherImNot · 18/08/2010 11:19

Not only were they her exact words I was informed at the beginning of my call, by a robot voice thingy, that their calls were monitored for training purposes so hopefully the call will be on tape.

Power was off almost 3 hours and we had to ask a friend to bring us a flask of boiled water for lo's feed.

That is unbelievable. I would not be surprised if the woman ended up on disciplinary for a comment like that - or worse!

cornsillkk · 18/08/2010 11:21

That's disgraceful! Get on to their head office.

sloanypony · 18/08/2010 11:22

But you told her to sod off then? I bet they say you're as bad as each other when they listen to the tape (which isn't really true if she said that first, and the fact that you are a CUSTOMER ffs although its not acceptable to say that to anyone)

ShadeofViolet · 18/08/2010 11:25

Name and Shame!

EarthMotherImNot · 18/08/2010 11:28

I did tell her to sod off and I could have said so much worse.

I am the most mild mannered wimp of a woman most of the time but her attitude was dreadful.

The company, by the way is NEDL

booyhoo · 18/08/2010 11:28

regardless of wheter you told her to sod off or not she should definitely be disciplined for that. it is so out of order i am ripping for you Angry

Rosa · 18/08/2010 11:32

Give her job to somebody who knows how to speak to people....... ( And who would probably appreciate it more). She should be fired that is disgusting .......

Greensleeves · 18/08/2010 11:33

I think "sod off" was mild under the circumstances

poor you though, what a horrible confrontation

I would have been really rattled

VinegarTits · 18/08/2010 11:35

i would get back on the phone and insist i talk to a manager right away and refuse to hang up until you do, also ask them for their complaints procedure

miracled · 18/08/2010 11:36

Report it to the regulator, the company will be forced to take action then. They record all the calls so she can't wriggle out of it.

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2010 11:37

that's dreadful! WTF was she thinking when she said this?

Mishy1234 · 18/08/2010 11:41

Complain immediately. She had no right to say that.

TheCrackFox · 18/08/2010 11:48

Shock Shock Shock

Name and shame. That is disgraceful.

nancydrewrocked · 18/08/2010 11:54

If that really happened then you need to get on to them now and insist on speaking to a manager today. Although tbh I am Hmm.

Alternatively the media is loving anti breast feeding at the moment and I am sure your local, if not a national paper would pick the story up in a second.

LucyLouLou · 18/08/2010 12:01

OMG I'm stunned. What a vile woman. Even if she was having a bad day, it doesn't excuse that. I'd ring back now and demand to speak to a manager.
