i'm married, 2 kids and had a split condom on sun night. called doctors on monday wouldn't see me for the emergency pill. told to ring today and spoke to the nurse who called thro to doctor who apparently shouted at her for interrupting him Shock and he wouldn't see me so have ended up having to pay £27.50 in boots for the emergency pill.

absolutely ashamed, having to pour out my sexual accident to a 20 something pharmacist- MAN- who seemed as embaressed as me!

Please tell me I am not bu!!!!!!

10 days later. She said Sunday in her OP!Grin

Feenie · 25/08/2010 12:39

But can you really tell 10 days later?

chipmonkey · 25/08/2010 12:43

I think you can get a BFP certainly 3 days early but not in all cases. Not sure about 4.

orangehead · 25/08/2010 13:18

I dont think you being unreasonable. The docotor doesnt know your situation. What if you and our husband were unemployed and simply did not have £27. Would it be better for the NHS to pay for an abortion, which would take up more docotor time and cost more or for them to bring a child up on benefits (not that Im saying there is anything wrong with bringing a child up on benefits but I know many would slag a person of for doing so saying they were irresponsible to get pregnant in the first place).
Condoms are not any more unreliable than any other type. Nothing is 100%, I have a friend who got pregnant with the coil another who got pregnant on the pill. Yes condoms can spilt but majorty of the time ok. Infact recently my family planning clinic suggested I use condoms as I was having problems with my cap and I cant use hormones. I doubt they would of suggested using them if they were classed 'unreliable'.
I think the doctors attitue was awful and unreaonable to make you wait another day which decreases the effect of the pill. I would consider putting a compliant into the practice manager esp as he made you wait

topsi · 25/08/2010 13:33

Could't the nurse prescribe it for you?

cumfy · 25/08/2010 17:02

OP- Did the doctor really "make me pay" ?

Having said that, you are incredibly++ unlucky to get pregnant through condom failure.

sleepingsowell · 25/08/2010 17:53

As far as I know your local hospital should have a family planning clinic where you can get an appointment and get this prescribed free. You don't have to go to your GP for this stuff.

I do agree that we shouldn't expect the state to bail us out when things like this happen however I think £27 and reluctant GPs are not really a good service - it ought to be more available than that if only because of our awful teenage pregnancy problem in this country.

However FP clinics do exist and if this were me I would make sure I had the contact details at hand for any future accidents.

hi all for some reason my beans stick fast, i knew straight away due to implantation bleed, thats why i tested, had them with both my othe dds.

Unfortunately the nurse was not trained so no i couldn't get the pill from her.

Congratulations!Grin The more the merrier, eh?

TrillianAstra · 26/08/2010 16:54

So you had condom failure then did take the MAP, but got pregnant anyway, and now you know you are pregnant even though it's only 10 days since you had the not-quite-unprotected sex?

If you don't want any more you should really sign up your DH for a vasectomy!
