My MIL died earlier this year. Even though we were very close I never called her Mum. Infact the day after our wedding she asked if I would and was relived when I said no. You only have one mother thankyou.

Oh god , no.

Like Bran, I don´t call her anything.

I call my MIL 'mum' when addressing her. I cannot remember how it started but she really liked it, so I carried on.

When I refer to her when talking about her to dh, I call her 'your mum'. dh calls her by a family nickname. Now that I would never use.

I love my MIL. I sometimes call her 'Mama' (German equivalent of mum). I wouldn't call her mum even if it was her language, because my mum is mum.

I enjoy calling her mama - it makes her glow :)

Just call FIL by his name though.

I call my pil by their first names but my mum and dad used to call both their pil mum and dad - I think it's more of an old fashioned thing to do.

Maybe because I grew up seeing that I don't really see it as weird (although I don't do it myself). And in a way I think it's quite nice - all the family coming together as one big family. It's quite nice and personal I think(although I know lots wouldn't agree!).

furball - how funny!

I don't think it's the norm, but each to her own I guess. I call mine by her name. My step-mum called her MIL (my Nana) Mum, as her own mum was dead and there was no other mother figure around. I always thought it was nice.
