Used to love Boden, it wasn't too pricey and I have some great stuff from years ago. Now it is all bland bland bland and over priced. The prints are hideous!

2kids2dogsandahorse · 04/08/2010 16:35

you are suffering from Boden-itis OP. It happens to us all eventually.

First you see a BODEN catalogue & swoon & mark every page. You go crazy, snap it all up and await each new catalogue with excitement.
Then you settle into ordering one or 2 bits a year - and regret choosing the dress on the cover - everyone recognises it & it looked better on the model.

Eventually the thump of excitement your heart makes over a new Boden catalogue, is just the normal thump of life, until one day you open up the catalogue and go WTF? - it's all overpriced and actually not that great afterall.

porcamiseria · 04/08/2010 16:40

Mingg · 04/08/2010 16:53

"Scandanavian wallpaper does not look good on people. It should stick to walls imo" quite right 2kids but saying Boden prints are (like) Sandinavia wallpaper is insulting to Scandinavian wallpaper.

Boden is crap, always has been always will be imo.

minipie · 04/08/2010 16:57

Apologies to the Scandinavian wallpaper

but you know what I meant.

traceybath · 04/08/2010 16:57

LOL at Darrell.

Boden is fine in small doses like pretty much every other brand/label out there.

I got a nice cardigan and necklace which I'm kidding myself is very Lanvinesque.

And you know - sexy is in how you wear it.

Mingg · 04/08/2010 16:59

Gracefully accepted on behalf of Scandinavian wallpaper.

Yes I know what you meant

Housewife2010 · 04/08/2010 17:00

I love Boden. I'm in my violet, swishy skirt as I type & I look very sexy in it.

Housewife2010 · 04/08/2010 17:05

Am currently watching Mabel though & she is definitely Boden-free (Apples episode). No prints & classic "senior" wear, e.g. beige dirndl. We are recent fans to "Come Outside" though - maybe this is before she's discovered Boden, or Pippin's chewed up her brochure before she's had chance to order!

CheerfulYank · 04/08/2010 17:07

I thought the same thing. Enough with the prints already! Actually most of the things I want to order are from the Johnnie B catalog...

MrsC2010 · 04/08/2010 17:10

I prefer this season to the summer stuff, there are a couple of things that could I bring myself to part with the cash would probably stay in my wardrobe for years.

sorky · 04/08/2010 17:11

I bought from JohnnieB this Summer

Was much better than the Womens section. The dresses fitted my vertically challenged bod

CheerfulYank · 04/08/2010 17:18

Right, sorky?! I'm fairly tall so that's not an issue, but the casual hoodies and stuff are more my style than Scandinavian wallpaper print dresses.

Of course I dress like a 12 year old boy much of the time so I'm not exactly a style guru.

AlaskaNebraska · 04/08/2010 17:18

lots of horrible prints

sorky · 04/08/2010 17:26

is the cosmo tee really alright Alaska, I keep looking at it and thinking people will think I'm pg....again!

NomDePlume · 04/08/2010 17:36

A/W Boden always better than S/S Boden imo.

I thought this season was a huge improvement too. The last 2 or 3 have been utter dross, whereas I have actually ordered from this one. Stuff hasn't arrived yet so it may well go back.

I do agree that it has got more expensive, if old Johnny isn't careful he's going to price himself out of the market. That said, I tend to order with a discount code anyway so very rarely pay full price.

Re all the applique and 'fun' stuff. They must shift it given that they have a truckload of it in every book, the market must still be demanding it. Though I admit that personally I do stay away from that end of the spectrum.

2kids2dogsandahorse · 04/08/2010 17:41

But who on earth buys the applique and 'fun' stuff? Not me thats for certain. And I seem to be missing something here, what is this Johnnie B catalogue - is this a more adult version of Boden (which is curently reminding me of the Kids Joules catalogue at a funeral)

OP posts:
sorky · 04/08/2010 17:44

it's for teens, but it does some rather nice topshoppy stuff

NomDePlume · 04/08/2010 17:44

JohnnieB is a teenwear section

AlaskaNebraska · 04/08/2010 18:22

i like it
but have tits

NomDePlume · 04/08/2010 19:04

Parcel has arrived, DS2 found it up the side of the house.

The silk Notting Hill dress is nice but the fit is too baggy imo, fits on the boobs but too roomy around the waist. Good colours, , style and length on me but the fit is not great, cut for straight up an down types I think (I'm a sz10 but I am booby with a waist). It's just that bit too ££ (£73 with discount) to keep and make do with the slight roominess in the waist, and as it's silk it's not really one I'd want to take in myself. An 8 wouldn't fit me across the bust but would prob fix the poor fit around the waist/underbust.

Love the Copenhagen tunic though. Fabbo.

Still waiting for the cord casual dress
