are attention-seeking, narcissistic, smug and haven't got a competent grasp of the English language?

Granted this is based on a very small sample, but ffs, does the general public want to see so many photo's and read so much inanity about your everyday life.

Humdrum and boring.

Yes, I know I don't have to read them, and after my recent experiences I certainly won't be seeking out to do it again.

Now, I'm off to my own quite humdrum life, I won't bore you with the details.

OP posts:
overmydeadbody · 04/08/2010 16:22

OP you obviously are reading the wrong blogs.

There are some brilliant blogs out there, expecially if you are looking for blogs on specific subjects rather than the dull ramblings of someone's inane daily life.

If it wasn't for the sewing and craft blogs out there, and decorating blogs, I wouldn't have access to so much inspiration and help and free tutorials.

You need to find better blogs, quite frankly...

chaostrulyreigns · 04/08/2010 16:22

at wmmc.

I think OP is right if she's talking about those bloggers so succinctly described by SGB.

SO YANBU.

But there's a whole world of bloggers out there who actually inform and enterain in an edifying manner. So, OP, if you are including those in your statement, YABU.

Iloveclimbinghills · 04/08/2010 16:22

I read your blog earlier MmeLindt and quite liked it.

AnyFucker · 04/08/2010 16:24

I find personal blogs the online equivalent of that marvellous 1990's practice of forcing the rest of your family to come round to yours to watch your holiday videos

I don't get too het-up about 'em though

I just don't bother to read 'em

Like I still have a tape of my great-uncles big trip to NZ he made in 1992. I haven't ever watched it

he has referred to it a few times, but I just smile and nod

Porcelain · 04/08/2010 16:26

I think it depends on what you are blogging about.

Blogs about your latest trip to Asda are rubbish, I don't read them.

Blogs about daily life written by someone who has the sense of humour, observation and skill to make it interesting to read can be worth it.

Blogs about a particular life experience (like a travel diary) or tracking the process to accomplish something can be very interesting. I remember avidly following a blog on the BBC of a journalist fighting brain cancer, it was really moving and thought provoking.

Blogs collating news or some themed topic can be good if you are into that sort of thing (personally I am quite into cake wrecks, in that "can't bear to look away" way).

Of course ultimately, if you don't like a blog, you don't have to read it

FellatioNelson · 04/08/2010 16:27

I saw one the other day by some middle aged woman who lived in a bungalow and blogged about her bungalow and her little deck area with potted begonias etc and she posted reams of photos of her clothes and her shoes. They weren't even exciting sex-siren shoes. They were Kays sandals and M&S footgloves etc. It was monumentally boring. And odd.

Then again I've seen another one by a Dutch woman with a beautiful cottage and a real talent for 'staging' her home in a lifestyle porn way and it's yummy.

SloanyPony · 04/08/2010 16:28

The thing with a blog is that you dont have to read it.

So if you force the rest of your family round to see your holiday snaps, the kind of have to or they are bastids.

If they dont want to read your blog, they dont have to.

FellatioNelson · 04/08/2010 16:29

Oh, and the bungalow woman had bought some mugs at a boot fair, and we were treated to a photo - of each of them.

I'd follow the bungalow woman. That level of inanity intrigues me.

chaostrulyreigns · 04/08/2010 16:32

Maybe we should have a thread recommending/linking to good blogs???

EmmaKateWH · 04/08/2010 16:32

YANBU I totally agree. Obviously some blogs are interesting, but in general they are written by people with a very distorted perception of how interesting their lives actually are, and too much time on their hands.

MmeLindt · 04/08/2010 16:33

Thank you, Iloveclimbinghills.

I enjoy blogs that find something unusual or interesting in daily life. Very much like From Our Own Correspondant, it is fascinating to read first hand what the locals think of a particular issue. Sometimes I see something that just sums up Switzerland and I share it on my blog.

MmeLindt · 04/08/2010 16:33

Please link to the bungalow woman, sounds fab.

chaostrulyreigns · 04/08/2010 16:35

Ok then I will.

FellatioNelson · 04/08/2010 16:38

And photos of a tube of hand cream, a slow cooker and some bottles of nail varnish.

TrillianAstra · 04/08/2010 16:40

If you are planning on complaining about people who "haven't got a competent grasp of the English language" you should probably check your own punctuation first.

More than one photo = photos NOT photo's

FellatioNelson · 04/08/2010 16:40

OK, I'll hop over to chaos's thread and link it. I must begrudgingly say the bungalow has a nice garden though. I just don't want to see her hand cream and comfy sandals.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 04/08/2010 16:44

But Fellatio, I do

MumofManyHorrors · 04/08/2010 16:45

I kind of agree with the consenus on here - some are good, some are bad.

TA doesn't the apostrophe in photo's indicate missing letters rather than possession?

mangoandlime · 04/08/2010 16:53

YA so NBU!

I cannot quite believe how up their own arses some people really are.

The folk here saying if you don't like then don't read...well, it's a bit like anything cheesy and cringworthy, quite entertaining, but only in a bad way. Good for a laugh.

The majority of bloggers I've come across seem to be desperately insecure, always wanting attention and reassurance, amateur bloggers on the whole fall into this category.

Can't say I've noticed a bad grasp of the English language though.

Some foodie blogs are good and there's a fantastic bead blog that I read, but she's talking about something other than herself, which is quite rare really.

Yep, narcissistic, terribly smug and they seem blissfully unaware of any of that!

FellatioNelson · 04/08/2010 16:54

OK I fecked up. The other thread is for good blogs. I should have posted my bungalow lady here. Will do it again.

nice comfy shoes

Megatron · 04/08/2010 16:54

I don't mind blogs generally as it makes me realised that other peoples lives are as boring as mine! Not a fan of fashion blogs, they're just a bit to 'look at meeeeee' for my liking buy each to their own.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 04/08/2010 16:58

I blog my recipes and food tips, this is simply because i get asked on a daily basis for a recipe for something or other so i have a blog where people can see all my recipes and request certain things if need be.

I also read a blog by Steve Pavlina, he does 30 day lifestyle trials and i originally read it for his raw food diet trial but have since read other ones he has done as well.
