To actually decide not to go on holiday tomorrow

Lauriefairycake · 30/07/2010 17:23

It's going to rain heavily in the Lake District for the next 5 days (that's as far as the BBC forecast.

I don't like rain and my hair goes frizzy and curly in it.

And I especially don't like hiking or walking round lakes in the rain.

When it rains heavily at home I stay in and play on the computer mumsnet and watch tv.

Where I'm going there is no internet and the tv has only very limited freeview channels.

I'm actually seriously pissed off and not wanting to go - it is not a holiday if I have to play board games with dd/dh and my MIL and SIL.

(I have pmt)

Looks quite impressive on the radar. I would take lots of wine if I were you. and maybe some whiskey.

NarkyPuffin · 30/07/2010 18:29

Take a hat- you can wear your hair down but keep most of it secured.

Try the Aquarium of the Lakes- haven't been for a couple of years but it was good.

Look on line for 'nature trail' type charts- the ones that you tick off the various types of leaves and birds you see- and send the children and DH out exploring.

Lakeland Plastics. Big Shop. Many gadgets you never knew you needed.

Buy lovely wellies- spotty and bright. You will have them for the snow in winter.

Deffo find the nearest spa hotel and check what treatments are on offer.

Laurie - Book and a Pub. Send the others off on hikes and what have you, and suggest they meet you there in a couple of hours. Sorted.

Stay in the SE Laurie- we'll meet for lunch.

Cystitis is always a good one for getting out of things...or anything "down below".

anonymousbird · 30/07/2010 18:41

Dont be a wuzz!!! Just watched weather on the news, and wasn't that much rain showing over the weekend. A few showers (but that could be anywhere in the UK!) so get on with it and go on holiday!

You never know, you might have fun!

NarkyPuffin · 30/07/2010 18:41

Ha! You're just paralysed with jealousy because you haven't got chicken wellies.

OnEdge · 30/07/2010 18:41

Sounds like a wank holiday.

Would rather eat sick than play board games with my SIL

deaddei · 30/07/2010 18:45

My dh and db had a bust up over dominoes last year, and harsh words were said.

Hassled · 30/07/2010 18:47

FGS don't go. It sounds hideous.

NarkyPuffin · 30/07/2010 18:48

My ILS had a full on family row over scrabble which ended with tears (SIL) and "I was always the outsider in this family!" accompanied by door slamming (BIL)

Lap top and DVDs?

deaddei · 30/07/2010 18:53

Oh I love that sort of row Narky.
If dh and I have a set to, I usually get in "well I never liked your mother" and he says "I picked you out of the gutter".
What he means is, I'm from the north.

colditz · 30/07/2010 18:56

I'm with OnEdge, it does sound like a wank holiday.

Send your OH with the kids. Wave them off with a smile.

midnightexpress · 30/07/2010 18:57

You are a great big ponce. Get your bloody waterproofs on girl and stop whinging. The Lake District is full of lovely restaurants and pubs. We were there in May and had lovely meals at Lucy's in Ambleside (yum) and The Drunken Duck (yum squared).

Why on earth did you book it if you don't like getting wet? It's more or less a given in the Lakes, really.

ninah · 30/07/2010 18:58

another don't go here op

teaandcakeplease · 30/07/2010 19:05

Whose idea was the Lake District for a holiday?

NoahAndTheWhale · 30/07/2010 19:11

We went on holiday to Shropshire 3 years ago. It Rained. Every day. All day. Apart from thd very last evening. It was thoroughly depressing tbh and I watched more Charlie and Lola DVDs than anyone ever should.

ChippingIn · 30/07/2010 19:14

Laurie - try this on DH...

Iiiiiiiiiiiii don't wan-na go
Don't wanna be fiiiit
haven't you heard
You and DD go alone
I wont mind stayin home

I'm sure I can find a link to the tune if you need it

AlistairSim · 30/07/2010 19:21

It's never too late to sprain an ankle.

LouMacca · 30/07/2010 19:24

We went to Wales for 5 days this time last year - it rained every day BUT we still had a fab time. It's not cold just wet. Get your waterproofs and wellies out and have a fab time - you might surprise yourself

pirateparty · 30/07/2010 19:28

Oy Noah!! I live in Shropshire and it's lovely!

It doesn't rain all the time either (although it might be raining right now )
