Excuse me, I'm about to shout.

WHY THE HELL DO NO SHOPS STOCK ANY MORE SWIMMING COSTUMES/BIKINIS/BOYS' SHORTS?????!!!

"Oh no, dear" trilled each lady in M&S, BHS, Primark etc... "they've all gone now. It is July, after all."

It's the first week of the sodding summer holiday. Half the country has yet to go away. I don't want bloody "back to school" I want HOLIDAY BEACHWEAR for KIDS!!!!!!!!!!

As you were...

Sports shops?

Itsjustafleshwound · 27/07/2010 18:08

Have you tried your local supermarket superstore ???

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 27/07/2010 18:08

Leisure centres - but they are all Zoggs and £££

Ladyanonymous · 27/07/2010 18:09

YANBU I suffered this injustice last year.

So went and got them from Tesco this year - in April

SloanyPony · 27/07/2010 18:09

It is annoying how far ahead they do things particularly in relation to children's clothing - after all, you dont want to buy too far ahead because they do this irritating thing called growing

I try and focus on the positives, like the fact that you can get these things but in the sale even though the swimming season has only just began.

If I were you I'd treat the impending sales as a big alarm bell like the last drinks bell at the pub. If you hate sales, get those essential things before they start, and if you dont mind them, get them at a discount but do it at the beginning of the sale, not the end, to ensure you get what you want.

Once the sales have been underway a few weeks as they have, you can find yourself in a pickle...

TheCrackFox · 27/07/2010 18:11

YANBU

It is a complete pain in the arse. I do not want to by a winter coat in July. I will never be that organised and have no intention of ever starting.

clam · 27/07/2010 18:11

DD looked very sniffy when I pounced on a Speedo cozzy in M&S - the only thing in her size in town. She wanted one of the lime green slutty striped ones on the floor in Primark.

Jojay · 27/07/2010 18:12

Erm, we've got some

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 27/07/2010 18:21

I bought DD2 a gorgeous one in Polarn O Pyret on Sat - in the sale for a fiver. They had loads (boys and girls - 1 & 2 piece).
I know what you mean though. I can't understand why shops stock a season ahead all the time. I mean, have you tried buying clothes that aren't black/red or sparkly between October and January? If you haven't bought your autumn winter jumpers/boots etc by October you are consigned to a wardrobe of festive partywear for the rest of the season.

coventgarden · 27/07/2010 18:23

When I am able I am opening a back to front shop selling swimming costumes in winter and wellies in summer as retailers seem to think no one swimmings in the cold months and kids don't splash in puddles in the summer.

mousymouse · 27/07/2010 18:26

last week I got a "you are a bit late buying sandals for your child" - hes outgrown his sandals and I needed new ones. now hes got dark blue girl*s ones with flowers. the last pair in his size left...

clam · 27/07/2010 18:44

LOL mousymouse
How old is he? Hopefully too young to notice/care.

Ah! Debenhams! Forgot about them.
Will take a look.

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 27/07/2010 18:46

I remember trying to buy a winter coat for my children in January and having all of the shops tell me that they were sold out as they were making way for summer lines.

It is very annoying

clam · 27/07/2010 18:53

I was furious with myself for contributing to M&S's belief about buying trends, by pouncing on some thermal leggings in August for the kids to use for skiing the following February because I knew they wouldn't have them in then.
The saleswoman said "See? People do want these things in August!"

mnistooaddictive · 27/07/2010 19:06

Ebay. They always have odd things. You can buy new ones and have them deivered quickly.

lal123 · 27/07/2010 19:08

next?

ruddynorah · 27/07/2010 19:10

what exactly are you after?

BollockBrain · 27/07/2010 19:10

I have fallen for this one a few years ago. Now, as soon as the Spring/Summer NEXT catalogue arrives, i get ordering. I know it is a pain as they won't be worn for months but at least you have it.

My stuff was ordered when we had all that snow.

ruddynorah · 27/07/2010 19:11

shorts?

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/07/2010 19:15

OP: you are me. Have been looking for swimming costumes and boys shorts - nyet, nada, rien, in Bromley yesterday. Huge shopping centre - M&S, BHS, Next - nothing. Nor in Tu in Sainsburys today.

It is FUCKING RIDICULOUS and if someone tells me I am ranting over nothing then they can £$%^ off.

I think someone could make a fortune by selling children's clothes in season.

anonymousbird · 27/07/2010 19:18

Ditto flip flops - not a pair to be had, and just as we are about to embark on our summer hols..... Love ebay, I buy loads from there, but I want my children to actually TRY THEM ON seeing as they are footwear. No, not a bleedin chance.

Grrr.

greenlotus · 27/07/2010 19:19

I have just been on the Boden website hoping to get the boys winter PJs and trousers BEFORE they sell out in the useful sizes. And getting next term's uniform while I still can.

It is really annoying. TGF ebay.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 19:29

Tesco had swimming costumes (well, some) a couple of weeks ago. Agree eBay tends to be the easiest option for buying stuff when you are actually in the relevant season.

LaundryLyne · 27/07/2010 19:43

YANBU. It won't be long before things are in the shops at the exact opposite time of year to when you need them!

I'd try the high street store websites and look in the "sale" section to see what's left.
