Excuse me, I'm about to shout.

WHY THE HELL DO NO SHOPS STOCK ANY MORE SWIMMING COSTUMES/BIKINIS/BOYS' SHORTS?????!!!

"Oh no, dear" trilled each lady in M&S, BHS, Primark etc... "they've all gone now. It is July, after all."

It's the first week of the sodding summer holiday. Half the country has yet to go away. I don't want bloody "back to school" I want HOLIDAY BEACHWEAR for KIDS!!!!!!!!!!

As you were...

and what do you do if sandals break or ds grows 2 sizes in a few weeks?
ds is 3 so the girl*s sandals are borderline. at least they are not pink with glitter...

Itsjustafleshwound · 27/07/2010 19:48

Now if swimming costumes were necessary Christmas wear.....

Can I just add that it is midwinter Down South and my folks are already looking at buying stuff for summer, so I don't think this is unique UK trend ...

Libra · 27/07/2010 20:09

OP This was me yesterday.
I did finally track down a pair of boys shorts in Zara.
I couldn't believe that all the shops were showing autumn clothes! I am trying to pack to go on holiday!! (Mind you I got a top in Wallis that I have been eyeing for months reduced to a tenner so it's not all bad!)

MarineIguana · 27/07/2010 20:12

I got DD a swimming costume in Gap at the weekend, reduced from £10 to £2.99. They had quite a lot left. Also considered, but didn't buy, some cossies at Boots and I saw boys ones there too.

Rockbird · 27/07/2010 20:13

It's annoying but you know full well that they do this so why did you wait till now? I went out and got swimming stuff etc for DD when they came into the shops, I knew she'd need it and remember the hassle from last year. It doesn't make what they're doing right but hardly fair to blame them for your lack of organisation.

BuzzingNoise · 27/07/2010 20:14

YANBU. I'm a teacher and it does grate that shops are full of back to school before we've even broken up.

MumNWLondon · 27/07/2010 20:15

Where are you going on holiday? We've bought stuff where we are in Spain - flip flops, UV vests etc - it's all here. Not ideal I know, but if all else fails...

franke · 27/07/2010 20:20

I agree with you btw re the crapness of retailers and their seasonal daftness.

OP YANBU. It makes me even more crazy when baby/childrens shops do the same thing.

In December I went into Mothercare to buy DS, who was nearly 9mo at the time, a snowsuit in size 9-12mo. I was told that they didn;t have anymore in stock and wouldn't be getting anymore in as it was nearly spring! I did point out to them that their baby clothes are at 3 month age gaps, so it is ridiculous to phase out seasonal clothes early. They just looked at me vacantly!

Naetha · 27/07/2010 20:24

Sports direct have loads very cheap.

Drives me mad too, for example you can't buy long sleeved t-shirts after about february because they've got nothing but t-shirts...

OhCobblers · 27/07/2010 20:25

Was in a large Boots today and their mini mode collection for swimwear is still full price and have quite a few boys swimming shorts, sandals, hats, sunsuits, etc, in stock.

HTH

by the way no, YANBU

LaundryLyne · 27/07/2010 20:26

So if it's winter in Australia, will they have summer things in stock now if their shops are as out-of-season as ours? We could shop on Australian websites, and they could shop on UK sites, and then we'll all be able to buy the right things in the right season ;)

vaunieathome · 27/07/2010 20:30

Just so unbelievably irratating!! If you do buy something early then odds are your children will have grown out of it by the time you are by the pool. Arrrrgh! If you are lucky enough to be going abroad, I bet you will find a lot of stuff in the shops there.....

purpletrees · 27/07/2010 20:30

This happened to me last year. This year I bought the stuff I needed for the kids in summer in March! I have started getting some warm clothes for them now, in July!

nomoremagnolia · 27/07/2010 20:34

Do you have an outlet centre nearby? Worth a try? The stock in ours is always the current season because it is sent to the outlet centre after it's been in the shop ahead of its season (iyswim)

anonymousbird · 29/07/2010 16:26

John Lewis today, Cambridge had full array of boys and girls beach wear, flip flops etc etc.... actually a choice of styles and sizes, amazing.

God praise JL.

Fimbo · 29/07/2010 16:31

T K Maxx usually have the odd thing if you are prepared to rake.

MathsMadMummy · 29/07/2010 16:34

Boots still have some, at least my local one does.

Bibbity I uesd to live in Bromley

poppyknot · 29/07/2010 16:35

Tried getting bridesmaid shoes for DDs. Not your actual bm shoes, just pretty ivory or or blue slip ons or sandals.

Autumn/winter has well and truly arrived (and being in Scotland the term is soon to begin.....)

I should have realised that wating till three weeks before the wedding was NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Aren't stock control systems up to this idea of buying things in more than one season??? Can they only cope with one at a time?
