to feel a bit pissed off with my boss and work colleagues

OK, so today is my last day in the office before my maternity leave and half an hour ago my boss walked out and said "am off out, won't be back before you go so see you around".

Urhm, OK then.

Yes I am part time, but have been with the company for well over 5 years, yes it is my second baby but you know perhaps a card would have been nice! Instead I am just going to close down my computer and go home at lunch time.

This happened with my last pg, another girl was pg at the same time - my boss (different) forgot I was leaving so didn't organise anything, I did get a card but there we go - no flowers post baby nothing, the other girl got a new mattress for the cot, leaving drinks and a changing bag with some vouchers. She has just gone on mat leave and we all had to sign a card and give money for a present for her.

Obviously I am not that popular, or my dept are a bit mean - would like to point out that other girl is also part time!

Feel a bit miffed really but am sure it is just pg hormones but would have been nice to have been a bit more acknowledged or perhaps I just have a self inflated opinion!

YABU - when I left my part-time job for my 2 dd it was a quick goodbye, see you soon, some people don't want to make a fuss incase something happens before due date, why don't you just wait and save complaints if they don't get you anything after baby is born.

Doodleydoo · 28/07/2010 11:48

Will do that, but can also guarantee that they won't do anything then as am unlikely to see them. They won't send flowers (fine) and they won't send a card either.

If you read my original "moan" it was the fact that other colleagues in the same situation got completely different treatment to me, and that is what I am upset about!

wiggles that doesn't ring true if you work in an office where a fuss has been made before. Why would you give one woman going on mat leave a present and not another?

ReasonableDoubt · 28/07/2010 11:50

YANBU. They sound like a miserable bunch.

MyMamaToldMe · 28/07/2010 12:25

I would send an announcement card when baby arrives. Gives them another chance to redeem themselves!

I imagine this is all to do with who organises the collections. I work for 3 blokes who I get on amazingly with but it wouldn't have occurred to them to do anything when I went on mat leave. A close female colleague arranged flowers and a card and other ladies gave presents and took me out to lunch. If it hadn't been for them I'd have got a see you later too! Don't take it personally and enjoy your ML.
