To snigger at my bitchy neighbour?

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 19:54

I get on OK with my neighbours, but they are bitchy, I know that, and I know they talk about me behind my back.
When I say 'they', I mean next door and her family. Her, both her sisters and Mum live in the street, in separate houses.

Anyway, earlier I warned her I was having a barbecue, by that I mean for DD and I, not inviting people over, but her washing was on the line so only fair to tell her.

I've just overheard her on the phone saying, 'and then she put on slices of cheese, who barbecues cheese'?

FFS it was halloumi.

I know I shouldn't, but it made me laugh.

I love it when folk get one over on their neighbours.

adamadamum · 23/07/2010 20:21

haha now that's made me smile!

ttalloo · 23/07/2010 20:21

How funny!

So she's not that adventurous with her food, then!

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 20:23

That's the thing, I didn't get anything over on her, but it still made me laugh and feel superior.

She obviously thinks I'm plonking a bit of mild cheddar on there!

Buy her some. Drop it round. Don't mention the phone conversation.

I love halloumi.

fearnelinen · 23/07/2010 20:25

Does it not bother you she is watching you? That'd spook me, is she hanging out of her bathroom window commenting on your diet??!!

Ripeberry · 23/07/2010 20:27

Nosy cow! I'd be furious that she was watching me

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 20:29

They think I'm weird because I eat smelly cheese and olives

One of them (not the next door one I overheard) doesn't cook in case her cooker gets dirty, and all three of the daughters often pay their Mum to cook for them.

And I'm odd for cooking cheese even if it was cheddar!

They'd faint if I told them we had a home made tapenade dressing on it

I'm bloody stuffed though and feeling a tad sick.

PMSL

TheCrackFox · 23/07/2010 20:30

Print out a tasty halloumi recipe and inquire if she would like to try it. Do not mention the phone conversation.

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 20:31

Two up, two down terraced houses, with tiny fences and gardens, you can't help but see if you are in the garden.

Of course you should snigger - if her mum has to do her cooking then how the hell would she know what people normally barbecue anyway? She sounds a bit dim if you ask me. D'you know what? - after reading some of the threads on neighbours on here I feel very lucky indeed to have such nice normal neighbours.

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 21:36

Weeell, they may be a leetle bit less intelligent than my kind self.

Really, I do get on with them, I don't like them, but what's the point of having it out over such a silly thing, and it always is silly things they bitch about.

Besides, I'm quite happy with my halloumi/leaving washing out overnight/letting DD wear non white socks to school/giving DD school meals.

Yep, all things they've bitched about.

They are quite bonkers.

I think i would be tempted to cheerily say at the end of your next conversation with her..'Bye...oh by the way, it was halloumi, not cheese i was cooking'...see if she gets embarrassed. She's probably got a brass neck the size of a giraffe though and won't care if you overheard her

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 21:43

No no no...you need to find something totally random to BBQ and really give her something to freak out about

holidays2010 · 23/07/2010 21:45

Bitchy neighbours' incompetance makes me laugh. I have one living near me and I had some builders over doing my electrics, this particular one was clearly from Europe - ie, Poland, and he needed to get back into the building but she had closed the door and asked him if he wanted to get in, then asked who he was/what he was doing (even though he was wearing high-vis and had his contractors name clearly printed on his jacket, and when he refused to answer the noisy cow (because it is none of her business what he does in MY house) she stormed upstairs complaining to her cat about how terrible and "Irish" he was?!

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 21:53

Oooh, what do you suggest PussinJimmyChoos?

That could be fun.

OP posts:
AnyFuleKno · 23/07/2010 21:58

YABU, halloumi is bogging

muggglewump · 23/07/2010 22:12

I've just eaten the rest of it, it is delicious.
Not doing an awful lot for fresh air in this house though

OP posts:
PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 22:25

I think it sounds v nice - can you come and cook for me??

Oooh, what to put on the BBQ - toast!!! ha ha!!! Fire it up at 8am and stand there in your nighty with a cuppa and doing your toast as if most normal thing in the world!
