To be a bit miffed that a couple who have just won £7m on the lottery are still planning to go on their £9.50 bargain holiday?

I think its nice that they're not rushing in and changing their lives.

If they are originally from St Ann's and Sneinton they probably weren't that well off, although have done better for themselves with their own business.

No doubt next year they will do something a bit posher, but I think its nice that they are keeping their priorities the same!

I know, by all means don't rush into stuff and all that. But they could have given that hol away to -me charity or a friend in need as a nice gesture and then gone off on a week to... I dunno.. the south of France to think about how they could spend the money.

I don't play the lottery btw, so I don't know whay it bothers me so much.

Some people with dogs just wont go abroad and leave them

rubbersoul · 23/07/2010 10:41

I agree with herbietea. It drives me mad.
People that say- "we've lived here/worked here for 20 odd years and we're not going to change now we've won the lottery'

Give it to me then if you don't wan't it to bloody change your life! Some people.

Flisspaps · 23/07/2010 10:42

YABU.

PuppyMonkey · 23/07/2010 10:45

Ok, stay in this country with your dogs etc - but somewhere ... I dunno a bit nicer???? A bit more luxurious????

OnlyWantsOne · 23/07/2010 10:46

why does it matter?

bellavita · 23/07/2010 10:47

An admin lady at my son's school and her husband won the lottery a few weeks ago - £3.7m and my son said to me "mum why is she still working?"

I guess if you are not used to having so much money it is hard for them to take it all in.

I think YABU.

PuppyMonkey · 23/07/2010 10:48

It doesn't matter - I'm just a grumpy, jealous sod.

PuppyMonkey · 23/07/2010 10:50

Bella, I just think it's a shame that someone who actually needs the job and the money is being deprived it.

OP posts:
Oblomov · 23/07/2010 10:53

why not. he is reducing his days down to 4 now, right ?
i am sure they will buy a few things and have a few more holidays. but if you've already booked it, why not.
good for them not going mad and blowing it all on twaty things.
i've read of the man who is back as a dustbinman. and the women who blew her 2.5 million or whatever on drugs.
atleast they are sensible.

Maybe they like going on caravan holidays to places with entertainment and fried breakfasts.

Your posh country houses won't have Dangerous Dave and his dodgy disco, will they?

PuppyMonkey · 23/07/2010 10:58

They could hire Dave in for a private sesh couldn't they? And pay for loads of mates and family to come too!

OP posts:
JaneS · 23/07/2010 10:59

They are probably scared all their friends and family will think they've got snobby if they change their lifestyle suddenly, I would be. I think it's sensible.

PuppyMonkey · 23/07/2010 11:07

Sensible schmensible. Give me the dosh, I'll show them how to do snobby.

Rockbird · 23/07/2010 11:11

I used to wonder why people played it if they didn't intend to change their lifestyle but the older I get the more I realise it's not the material things that matter, it's the fact that winning a lot of money would take the worry out of life. I don't need anything in particular, have house, car etc but I could really do with someone to take the constant feeling of 'what if' away. And a lottery win would. Sure there'd be other things to worry about but redundancy, tiny pension, mortgage etc wouldn't be one of them.

Good luck to them

Morloth · 23/07/2010 11:14

Good on them.

The only thing I would change is the knot of worry I have in my stomach about money.

My life is already pretty good and it would be nice to just stay as we are and not have to worry about it.

Onetoomanycornettos · 23/07/2010 11:14

Are only people who 'need' a job for money allowed to work now? Why can people not work as they like it, it stops them getting depressed, keeps their routine, gives them friends and a sense of community? I would come into work and carry on if I won the lottery, but I would pay for a housekeeper so I didn't have to do the dishes/washing/cooking when I get home.

GetOrfMoiLand · 23/07/2010 11:17

I think should be a lotto rule that if you win £3.4 million or whatever and still intend to carry on working at Somerfield, you give the money back.

I would be on the first flight to Acapulco. Certainly wouldn't go back to work, and I love my job.

cory · 23/07/2010 11:18

Me, I would not change much about my life, but I would stop worrying about old age.

If you had to give up your job because you won money, does that mean that no woman should be allowed to work if her husband is able to support her? Or no man if his wife could keep him in a life of idleness? What kind of a life is sitting on your bum doing nothing?

Is £3.4 million enough to keep you in the lifestyle to which you intend to become accustomed? For the rest of your life?

If you live another 60 years, say, that's 57 grand a year. Not exactly millionaire money.
