Not my opinion but that of Chiabom amongst others who can hopefully continue the debate here instead.

Just had a look at the original thread.......WTF is scat porn

How on earth do coca cola think a reference like that is suitable for over 14s???? aside from the fact that I can't imagine many 14 year olds would know what it means.........

BitOfFun · 20/07/2010 16:46

How rude. It seems that Chiabom's aim was purely to derail the original thread with his own agenda then. Ho hum.

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/07/2010 16:50

Bye bye.

BitOfFun · 20/07/2010 16:56

Coca-cola murders trade unionists.

diddl · 20/07/2010 17:02

No, I don´t think there has been an overreaction & tbh I can´t believe that CCs reaction wasn´t "OMG scatporn was referenced-we´ll stop the promotion immediately & heads will roll"

I am surprised that the media hasn´t picked it up more.

And those that have seem to be avoiding mentioning scatporn thus really not getting across how revolting(imo) the reference really was.

And little mention of leaving FB open-I can´t believe that that isn´t against T&Cs of FB tbh.

gorionine · 20/07/2010 17:04

"aside from the fact that I can't imagine many 14 year olds would know what it means........."

Was part of the problem as the 14 years old daughter of other thread OP proceded to google it to understand what it meant...

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 20/07/2010 17:51

Chiabom - if you're still checking in... Steer it back or start another thread that is better focused on what you want to say.

OP posts:
Chiabom · 20/07/2010 21:22

My goal was to defend a point, a point that was achieved and brought across in the previous thread and then popped up another point I felt necessary to make, which, unfortunately, was dragged horribly astray after this topic was made, and a lack of sleep the evening before had caused me an awful amount of tiredness and "grump" as one might call it; my interest was broken. I have gotten some sleep now, fellows / madams, and I am sticking around for quite a while, as I see problems lurking left and right on this website. Why, I may as well call this my new "internet home", I mean none of you any harm, and I was not attempting to "hijack" or "derail" the original thread- unless, of course, you consider hijacking the act of defending a point or a philosophy that I feel is being soiled by the words of the masses on this website, in which case, yes, I suppose I was.

I take it all back. You are just here to show us the error of our ways

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 20/07/2010 21:39

So - Chiabom - what was the point/philosophy you wanted to defend, as it relates to the Dr Pepper incident?

OP posts:
Chiabom · 20/07/2010 21:51

Initially, I intended to show the overreaction, why it was an overreaction, and that lead to how pornography being viewed by the youth is not a big deal, not that it should be legal (or that it shouldn't) but it's not a big deal, and that was what seemed to be happening in that thread. People were overly offended by something like that, that they actually believed they are "protecting" their children from pornography. Surely, it's a bit more understandable to not want a 7 - 8 year old looking at pornography, but a 14 year old? You're not "protecting" them, by any stretch of the word, you are fueling ignorance, a terrible curse among adults and young adults alike. I do not advocate that they be shown these things, I simply believe that they should not be "protected" from such. That is the point I am trying to make.

BitOfFun - Precisely, only I'm lacking the intention to actual open your eyes, as you all are clearly set in your ways, I know none of you are going to actually listen to anything I have to say, not saying in this with the intention of offending you, just stating an obvious observation. I'm more interested in pointing out the lack of logic in some of your statements, or even learn the lack of it in my own, because, you see, I am a man who is willing to hear that I am wrong, that with irrefutable proof and evidence, I will change my philosophies and ways of life. That is all.

JaneS · 20/07/2010 22:03

Lack of logic, huh?

Logic you may have, but as long as you write like a Spanish cow trying to speak Greek, you'll struggle to get it across mate.

(And I told myself I wouldn't post on this mess. )

Valpollicella · 20/07/2010 22:07

OMG Chiambom

So they shouldn't be shown these things, but directed 'directly' into Googling them ( as the OP's daughter did) as she didn't know what it was?

What a ridiculous argument

Chiabom · 20/07/2010 22:12

LittleRedDragon - Was that a shot at my English? Very nice, it's good to see we're talking about the topic.

Valpollicella - The OP's daughter wasn't directed, she chose to, sure it'd be a surprise but really, all I'm saying is it's not a big deal. I'm not arguing on CocaCola's side, I don't think it should've been done, I'm trying to say it's not a big deal, and the lot of you seem to be ignoring my statement and saying rather unrelated things.

Valpollicella · 20/07/2010 22:18

Of course it's a big deal.

They chose to include scat porn refs in a comptetion aimed at people who are 14.

What part of that do you need spelling out?

Would you parade a sandwich board outside the local high school with that on?

Serious question?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 20/07/2010 22:18

I think you might find there is more reasoned debate and a wider variety of opinion than you expect Chiabom.

OP posts:
TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 20/07/2010 22:20

Maybe not on 14 year olds and scat porn though.

OP posts:
LadyBiscuit · 20/07/2010 22:20

Do you have children Chiabom? Apologies if you have answered that on the other thread

Chiabom · 20/07/2010 22:24

Valpollicella -

I fail to see how scat porn is a big deal. I hardly think that they were honestly out to offend people, as much as they were to hopefully make a humorous statement among the youth, as things like that are seen as funny to the high school age group, believe it or not.

Also, why is it I'm being responded to with hostility? I did nothing wrong, please try to be a little polite with me, is all I ask.

TCNY - Good, I like hearing it.

Valpollicella · 20/07/2010 22:27

Erm, that wasn't my question Chiabom...

Would you parade up and down outside a loccal high school with a sandwich borad saying the same thing?

Chiabom · 20/07/2010 22:28

LadyBiscuit - I do not have children, but I have been a child, I know what it is like how humor varies from generation to generation, one generations will find the next generation's humor offensive and disgusting. Thus I have learned to live with and adapt to humor, do I personally find scat porn funny? No, however I'm not appalled by it, I personally don't care it exists.

Valpollicella · 20/07/2010 22:29

Please excuse the atroucious spelling in the above post!

And btw I really don't think it's hostility you are encountering here on these threads...it's debate!

JaneS · 20/07/2010 22:29

Chiabom, I simply meant that you'll get a better response if you take the time to write properly. Trying to follow your argument made my teeth ache before I even got to thinking about what you said. And I think it is fair to say this, given you said you wanted to discuss logic and lack of logic.

I may be sheltered, but I don't think most 14 year olds stumble across porn like that described, if that is indeed what you're trying to say.
