to think 630 really isn't particularly early for young children to wake

was having a conversation with a friend today who has little ones the same age as mine and when she asked what time the older DC (3.5) woke I said 630, and she said oh ok so pretty early then...

maybe i am deluded but i think 630 is pretty good going for a pre schooler, she goes to bed at 730 so that is 11 hours...

i had thought the majority of young children were up at the crack of dawn or am i just thinking that to make myself feel better?

i get up at 6 regardless of the time the others wake , however once they hit school age ,they can go tickle before 7am on a weekend ,unless the house is on fire or its thundering

lovechoc ,when working ,i leave the house at 6.30 and get up at 5

tegan · 14/07/2010 21:22

mine have all been early risers but dd1 always had to be up at 5 for me to get to work and dd2 never slept so 6.30 has always been a blessing and ds had just started to manage 6.30 instead of 5 so it's not early in my house

dobbyssocks · 14/07/2010 21:24

6ish normal in the dobby house. 7 is a treat. We have had about 2 or 3 9am wakings since ds1 born 4.5 years ago don't expect any more till he's a teenager! They're asleep 7-7.30pm. Keeping them up later makes no difference to their waking time even they just get up at the usual time and are grumpy all day....

BuzzingNoise · 14/07/2010 21:27

6.30 would be a nightmare! I get up at 6.40 for work, but don't wake DS until 7.15. At the weekend he gets up anytime between 7.30 and 9am. I know we've been very lucky with his sleeping. I think fondly of the days when he would sleep until 10am.

I think it is ridiculous to reguard 630 as very early whenas the majority of posters have said most folk have to be up around that time for work and a large number before that ( have got up at 530 for work before but agree it is too early !). Most preschoolers cannot differientiate between the working week and weekend so will be up at about that time.

whoneedssleepanyway · 15/07/2010 09:25

Seems 630 is pretty average I have a younger child who can wake at 5 so know about early! I have tried all manner of tricks to encourage later waking to no avail. It just irritated me how it was like insinuated I was doing something to cause this in course of conversation. For those of u that say it is way to early I say u r lucky as there seems to b v little u can do I your child wakes at that time I know from experience!

naughtymummy... dp isn't working atm but when he was he could crash around the house like an elephant in the mornings and it didn't wake them... the kids are incredibly heavy sleepers.

I've quite often had to be up at the crack of dawn to bring one or the other of them to hospital appointments (we live an hour from the hospital and for some reason they keep giving me early morning apppointments). I can walk in and out of sleeping children's rooms rousing and dressing the one i need and the other two don't wake up.

In fact the only time me being up and abpout early woke anyone was when i was in labour with ds2 and me having a shower at 6.30 am woke dd (after about 20 mins!)... ds1 had barely woken by the time i went to hospital 3 hours later... in fact i woke him as i wanted to see him before i left.

I think 6:30am is very early ... unfortunately, my youngest doesn't and if it 7am when I look at the clock after he's woke in the morning I consider myself VERY lucky and that a good lie in.

He did the waking at 5:30am every morning a while ago and it was a real killer. I can just about cope with 6:30am and it helps for getting ready for school runs in the morning.

I'm not looking forward to being up from 6:30am every morning in the holidays though ... the days are going to drag!
