to think 630 really isn't particularly early for young children to wake

whoneedssleepanyway · 14/07/2010 13:59

was having a conversation with a friend today who has little ones the same age as mine and when she asked what time the older DC (3.5) woke I said 630, and she said oh ok so pretty early then...

maybe i am deluded but i think 630 is pretty good going for a pre schooler, she goes to bed at 730 so that is 11 hours...

i had thought the majority of young children were up at the crack of dawn or am i just thinking that to make myself feel better?

my 2yr old dd wakes up at 10 past 5 EVERY morning, for at least the last year...i am not okay with this...

lazylula · 14/07/2010 16:58

For me 6.30 does sound early! Our day starts at 7.30 am, ds2 occasionally rises earlier but not often. Ds1 goes to bed at 7pm, ds2 at 6.30pm. Both love their sleep.

faddle · 14/07/2010 17:08

6.30 may not seem too bad, but I have been woken up at that time (or earlier, usually earlier) for 5 years now, and its starting to wear a little thin now..........

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/07/2010 17:13

my DD slept until 1015 today..not smug though as it was because she decided to get up between 1 and 4 am

ShadeofViolet · 14/07/2010 17:15

DS wakes between 4am and 5am every morning. Sometimes he goes back to sleep but normally by the time he does its time to get up with DD.

He is 3.

Mine are in bed by 8.30pm and if they're up at 7 that's a lie in (they're 9 and 7 so don't wake me up until 7.30 on a school day though!)

TulipsInTheSunshine · 14/07/2010 17:52

Mine would sleep all day sometimes if they got the chance.

Extraordinarily early in this house is 7/7.30 (usually dd atm as her room has a HUGE east facing window so she gets blasted awake at sunrise most mornings and can't get back to sleep once it gets too bright.

ds1 is rarely seen of his own accord before 8.30, often 10/11 and the baby is similar (although still shocking at night).

In winter dd sleeps better too and we often get til 10/11 on a weekend without seeing a child.

they're 5, almost 4 and 17 months and the older two go to bed at 7.30/8

activate · 14/07/2010 17:53

I think 6.30 is extremely early

undercovamutha · 14/07/2010 18:03

6.30 is very early on the weekend IMO!

DD (nearly 4) goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 7. DS (15mo) goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 6.30.

In the week this is fine, as I have to get up before 6.30 to get ready for work. On the weekend, this is NOT fine, as anything before 7 puts DH in a foul mood (he still expects a lie-in - the fool! ), so the DCs often go to bed a bit later on friday and saturday to give us a hope of a lie-in , although it doesn't usually work!

naughtymummy · 14/07/2010 18:10

How does it work if your Dcs don't get up untill gone 8 ? Surely someone needs to be up and out before that ? When dhs sister stayed with us (aged 6) in the summer holidays I would wake her if not up by 8 as I wanted to do stuff in the morning with the dcs instead of hanging about waiting for her to wake. Ds now 6 sleeps 9-7 ( was 8-6in winter) dd aged 3.5 sleeps 7-7 any later than that we would be late for school. In answear to OP I do not think 630 is very early. Anything before 6 is .

colditz · 14/07/2010 18:11

I think 6.30- takes the piss, to be honest. It's 7am at the earliest in my house, and they have the option to stay in bed and read if they wake up before.

NoahAndTheWhale · 14/07/2010 18:25

I would find 6:30 rather early tbh. Luckily DS and DD agree with me. Most of the time anyway.

We are able to wake up at 8:00 and get to school at 8:55. Helps we live nice and near to school

TulipsInTheSunshine · 14/07/2010 18:30

We live across the road from the school and school starts at 9.20. We are extremely efficient in the mornings and occasionally dp and i miss our alarms no one gets up til 9am... I still manage to get dd to school on time and fully dressed with healthy lunch in bag

nagoo · 14/07/2010 18:34

omnishambles I am quite sure that I will be learning an uphill curve when DC2 arrives!

Does anyone else do an 'evil mummy regime' with their DCs or is it just me? I'm obviously not talking about babies!

But if my DS gets up before the prescribed time (715 I'm not that evil!) then there is no telly, and no chitchat, no 'get in our bed', he just gets asked to go back to bed or play in his room.

ProfYaffle · 14/07/2010 18:37

My dc are up at 6.30am on average (no matter how late dd1 goes to bed she's always up before 7am) I'm used to it now though. I quite like having a long morning before school, sometimes I go for the early riser 6.30am session at the pool while dh gets the girls ready, 'tis fab

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/07/2010 18:49

my 3 are in bed asleep by 7.30 if not earlier and sleep to generally 7/7.30

anything before 7 and sent back to bed but as they got older they know this and can read/play in rooms QUIETLY

they are 2, nearly 5 and 7.5

lovechoc · 14/07/2010 18:55

DS is 3yo and goes to sleep at 8.30pm (but is in his room playing with toys from 6.45 to when he falls asleep at 8.30pm) and he wakes up at between 6.15 and 7.20am the following morning. It depends on the daylight outside when he wakes, it just varies at the moment.

Once winter is here most will sleep in a bit longer I'd imagine. Roll on winter!

lovechoc · 14/07/2010 18:56

YABU - 6.30 is very early - I dread having to get up at that time!

makeupmummy · 14/07/2010 18:57

YANBU, am grateful for anything that starts with a 6 for getting up time - 4.49 for my two year old today!!! Am wrinkled, eyebagged shadow of former self.

BeenBeta · 14/07/2010 18:57

No 6.30 is quite normal.

DSs now age 8 and 10 have recently been bribed persuaded to stretch it to 6.45 am on weekdays and 7.30 on weekends in return for a later bedtime.

naughtymummy · 14/07/2010 19:57

I can see if live over the road from school, but what about work, meetings etc ? I have never left for work after 815 neither has dh unless you live next to work, or are you Sahm who's dp creep out of asleeping house ?

Snobear4000 · 14/07/2010 20:11

Mine gets up at 08:00 and I am smug as shit. However I do have all the empathy in the world for the real early risers.

I have a friend whose kids get up at 05:30, so OP is not at the extreme end of sparrows-fart torture.

pozzling · 14/07/2010 20:20

My 23 month DD is up at about 6.30. Yes, it is too early! But even if she goes to bed late, it doesn't seem to make any difference, she's still up at the same time. At least we get our evenings though. I'm hoping she'll sleep later once she drops her afternoon nap.

scottishmummy · 14/07/2010 20:34

we all get up at 6am.at nursery/work 8am
