short version
(i dont generally do short )

Ds2 has m.e
school trip today to Alton Towers.
Ds cannot go,the rides upset his balance and make him extremely ill-he'd love to go but his worst fear is being 'ill' in front of his friends,(when he becomes ill he gets v pale collapses gets terrific headache has immense pain and no muscle control)

So hes not going.

nor are several kids

so today getting him up for school I say what jeans you wearing? knowing all the kids on fb have been discussing what their wearing.

No we have to wear uniform cos we are not on the trip he replies.

So unless we pay a massive amount for the trip and some kids arent going cos they cant afford it they wear uniform.

I think its wrong wrong wrong.

MarthaQuest · 12/07/2010 07:25

sounds like a bit of a fuss about nothing tbh, if they are in school they wear uniform.

YABU, shame for your son tough

gingernutlover · 12/07/2010 07:26

so will he be at school put with another class?

Surely they will all be wearing unifrom? Don't really see your problem.

It's not as if they are making him go to alton towers and watch the other children on the rides whilst wearing his school uniform.

Lulumaam · 12/07/2010 07:27

YABU

they're in school, it's not an own clothes day, so they wear uniform. he can get changed when he gets home..

i am sorry he is unable to go though..maybe take him for a treat after school?

piscesmoon · 12/07/2010 07:27

I think that it is a shame that he can't do the trip, but I can't see that it matters.

bigTillyMint · 12/07/2010 07:28

Shame for your son that he can't go on the trip.

Is it a whole school trip? If not, then all the other children will be at school and in uniform. It would be the same at DC's school.

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:39

Oh no dont get me wrong im not just cross cos of ds....its all the other children too.

Its a whole school trip,so as ds tells it it will be all the downies in school .

He did get a treat - new henley top and jacket which is why i presumed hed wear them.

YABU It was the always the rule when I was at school too.

gingernutlover · 12/07/2010 07:45

i dont think they are "bang out of order" maybe it would have been nice to allow the children who are staying behind to have non uniform but at least it's not just your son. I wouldn't waste time worrying about it TBH, you can't change anything.

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:45

Jeez times have changed, teenage boys discussing what they are wearing on FB....

What is happening to the world

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:47

Its a shame one of the kids not going cant go cos of the financial side of things, yet he always has fab clothes cos his stepmother gets a discount at one of the 'good' shops.

OP posts:
nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:48

Blackness i know boys discussing clothes lol.....it was mostly the girls though .

Kbear · 12/07/2010 07:48

keep him off school - everyone is going on end of term trip, can you let him stay home and have a nice day doing what he would like to do?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 12/07/2010 07:49

So the school have organised a trip during school time that some children can't afford to go on? That's what is unreasonable about the whole thing.

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:52

Well he misses a lot of school due to his illness and if hes able to go he wants to go - so of course on a day like this he looks as rough as a bear but hes up and can walk -so hes off to school.

I think im more cross than him.

He was just saying that on non uni day when they pay £3-4 to not wear uniform - if you didnt pay it was marked in the register and your parents were texted!

OP posts:
nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:53

Libras its not fair -theres little warning and I know my friend was worried cos she couldnt pay until payday last friday and school made a big deal out of it.

If parents can't afford the trip, that's what School Fund is used for. Every letter has information on what to do if you find the expense is the only reason the child can't go.
OP's son isn't going for other reasons.
Like my AS son and Thorpe Park, it would be a nightmare come true for him.

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:55

Apparently if you cant afford to go - you cant go.

My friend enquired about this and they said there was limited funds to support it and our letters dont say anything about if you find it hard to pay.

Said friend even asked if they could give him a place on trip and she would give a post dated cheque they said no!.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 12/07/2010 07:56

I think the most unreasonable thIng is having to pay £3/4 on non uniform days .

DD didn't go on a residential trip recently and on the days she went to school it didn't occur to me she wouldn't wear uniform.

nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:57

Goblin child it makes me a bit sad really that its down to health reasons.

OP posts:
nickschick · 12/07/2010 07:58

It can be more than £3-4 if they have a disco.

disco= cd player in dining room at lunchtime.

overmydeadbody · 12/07/2010 08:01

The school are not bang out of order.

If they have a uniform, it makes sense that children who will be in school all day wear the uniform, regardless of whether or not the children on the school trip are wearing a uniform.

And as a trip to Alton Towers isn't educational, it is also fine imo for the school funds not to cover the cost of children who cannot afford to go.

Goblinchild · 12/07/2010 08:02

'Goblin child it makes me a bit sad really that its down to health reasons.'

Made me more sad when I have to rescue my lad from rope ladders, rollercoasters and waltzers with his eyes shut and yelling.
He doesn't do unstable and wobbly.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 12/07/2010 08:02

Wow - non-uniform days here are £1. Why have they set it so high? And more to the point, have you seen the letter stating it's £3/4, or is there a danger it could be being used for other things?!
