AIBU to think that anyone who has bought one of these is just stupid. FACT!

You need taps with leavers so you can turn them on with clean hands.

It's a slippery slope if I start buying products like this, next I'll be filling up on the Kandoo aisle and then before I know it - squeezy marmite.

The marketing is pants, and I hate that fear related stuff, makes me distrusting of a brand that was admired in the 70's when I was a kid. Dettol in the bath for stingy nettles and cuts was almost magical.

So I went and looked this up (I missed the ads, probably because I'm one of these weird people that only watches the BBC) - my kids would love this!!! Endless hours of amusement I reckon. I suggest the OP gets the thread deleted to avoid more money going to Dettol....

Thank you everyone for making me giggle. I've just returned to this thread after spending the day feeling like I'm being roasted alive the temperature here is so high. I am willing with some reluctance to change my original statement to

AIBU to think that anyone who buy one of these (unless they have a physical impairment which makes the use of a conventional soap dispenser just too tricky) is stupid. FACT!

My daughter has OCD and this just helps to fuel her arguments with regard to germs and contamination. You still have to turn on and off the tap. Unless you use your elbow, which then becomes contaminated - unless you wipe it with an antibacterial wipe and spray your clothes with antibac. spray etc etc etc, which an OCD person feels is the necessary course to take.

My daughter has never had a bad upset stomach in her life, so I must have been doing something right.
These products just feed on peoples fears.

When I first caught this ad I thought it was a joke (Like the Mitchell and Webb one?).... I actually thought I had stumbled across a comedy show and was waiting for the punchline.... :)

I am so pleased i'm not the only one who feels this way!
I always end up shouting at the screen.
It doesn't matter if your soap dispenser button is covered in germs, it wouldn't even matter if it was covered in poo for that matter. You are washing your hands with the soap that comes out immediately after touching the dispenser it makes no diference.

Therefore anyone who has bought one is these because they are worried about germs IS stupid.
Purchases for any other reason though is entirely acceptable.

diddl · 22/08/2010 16:32

I think the "reason" for needing one as advertised is ridiculous & am Shock that people might be falling for that.

Also the advert about bacteria on clothes??!!
