I am just wondering if mums with experience of milk intolerance could tell me what the symptoms of cows milk intolerance are and whether there are different levels of intolerance?

Kalo - how much flax seed oil do you give?

Someone said it can give a runny bum which I don't want obv.

Went to GP today and she thinks that DD's gut my be slightly damaged unfortunately due to having calcium supplement with lactose in

kalo12 · 09/06/2009 21:23

i give 2 teaspoons for my 16 monther. It can be a laxative but not like normal laxatives that just push everything out, it allows the gut to absorb nutrients better from food. it just can help with getting things moving if there is any constipation.

tbh my ds is much improved after taking this. dairy in my bm used to give him diarrhoea if i had too much but now it doesn't bother him. he only poos once a day or every other day at most.

how come your dd has calcium supplements if she is on formula? (am worried now)

simpson · 09/06/2009 22:09

Kalo - because she is intolerant to oats and used to eat porridge for breakfast and could easily get 10ozs of neocate in her just at breakfast time (5 in bottle & 5 in porridge) then the rest of the day to get another 10 iyswim.

But now breakfast is 5 ozs max

TBH she wants to eat now not drink milk much (only had 9ozs neocate today - and its not the taste) whuch is not enough for her nutrition wise.

GP today says that the calcium supplement she was on (with lactose in ) has damaged gut so although she hasn't taken it for a wk she still poos 5/6 times a day so needs time to get over it iyswim.

I thought what you said (flax seed oil) might help....but only remembered when out of the surgery so couldn't ask her....

DD is 16mths too BTW.

i would really recommend you get 'digestive wellness for children' by elizabeth lipski.

i have to say i have absolutely no faith in docs and medical professionals now. they prescribed me antobiotics which weren't safe for breastfeeding which i'm sure is the cause of this milk intolerance.
i prefer to take a nutritionist view. and use health foods. my ds is a poor eater so it gets a bit stressful hence why i still breastfeed so much

will get book on amazon tomorrow.

GP very good TBH its DD's pead that is the wanker useless.

Her dietician is pretty good though.

DD's eating very good TBH. Although she wants to feed herself everything ie chunks of meat etc and not be spoon fed at all.

When she is in a good mood she will take a fruitapura pot or hipp pudding jar but not always.

but she is not walking/standing so I worry that this has delayed her development slightly, although she doesn't stop talking!!

Could not believe it when I checked calcium supplement and it had lactobionate in which local pharmacist said would probably cause her problems. But I did not think to check and gave it to her for a week

kalo12 · 09/06/2009 22:49

don't worry about the walking. its not an indicator of intelligence (have ma in developmental movement) i think basically they learn either walking or talikng. its different parts of their brain and so can't do together. my ds has brilliant movement skills can even moonwalk! but only says one word - 'da' which means everything.

my sis 4th child didn't walk til he was two and he is perfectly normal

simpson · 09/06/2009 22:58

guess they all develop at different pace

I only mention it because at 10mths DD couldn't even sit up and within a wk of being on neocate (at 10ish mths) she was sitting & crawling and TBH my gut instinct is that she has tummy pains before and didn't feel like sitting/crawling iyswim.

Just hard to know if there are any other intolerances if she is still pooing so much. Grrr....

LOL at moonwalk!!

Reckon you are right DD probably knows 40 odd words and in supermarket the other day started singing "twinkle twinkle little star" which I didn't think was obvious to anyone but me but cashier knew what she was singing, was so cute!!

kalo12 · 09/06/2009 23:00

my ds was not babbling - i was sooo worried about autism, gave up dairy and he started babbling.

dairy is bad. i think its bad for all but am worried about calcium and fat. am going to google almond butter

simpson · 09/06/2009 23:05

Ooooh let me know what you find...

calcium and fat is my worry too TBH

kalo12 · 09/06/2009 23:06

it seems pretty good actually. loads of calcium and magnesium plus lots of essential fats. hope he's not intolerant. going to find some tomorrow.

i haven't dared try eggs yet

simpson · 10/06/2009 09:04

DD is ok on eggs

Is your DS lactose intolerant?

Am going to brave it and try lacto free yogurt

She does eat chocolate mousse made with rice milk which you can buy.
