Ezcema and Sun Lotion - Please can anyone help?

DD is prone to ezcema but I pretty much know what to avoid food wise and as long as I put lavender oil in the bath we are pretty much OK.

However, with the hot weather the Nursery have been covering her with sun lotion, very commendable of course but it is playing havoc with her skin. Very raised and dry patches. They are using a child lotion I know but I obviously need to send my own in.

Please can anyone recommend a good solution? Also, how do you get it off any night? I hold back from strong soaps etc as it makes her skin very dry and prone to outbreaks but water only just does not get it off.

She is btw.

Many thanks in advance.

Franny - do you have a web link please? sounds good too.

Strawberry - thanks, DD had such a cool day, she is such a funny little pickle. Probiotics are genius. I would really recommend them for recurrent tummy bugs, our LOs need a helping hand. Try a really good health food shop, better if they have been kept in the fridge. I have one which is strawberry flavour so DD has strawberry milk!

lavera

i prefer more natural type products so thought it worth a try
am happy to slather ds2 in petroleum products when it keeps his skin nice though

BlueBumedFly · 23/04/2009 22:46

Franny - what a lovely website, lots of things to buy and try....!

Right, thank you everyone, lots to think about and try. For now I am off to bed - goodnight, will check back tomorrow and get ordering, that will bring the rain for sure!

Have you thought about 'green' sunscreens as they have fewer chemicals? We use www.yaoh.co.uk/catalog/bodycare-suncare-c-21_32.html SPF30, which seems to work well.

marl · 23/04/2009 22:51

Yep, got the orange Sunsense we get on prescription which is great, but purple wasn't in the doctors' listings when I last asked!

bran · 23/04/2009 22:54

I use Sunsense on DS, the roll-on one works really well for him. Bergaderm is good, but if it gets into the eyes it's agony. The year before last I used Aveeno on him which was good, but then last year it triggered his eczema which was weird.

Not tried Nivea Baby on DS2 yet, only bought some this evening. Nivea sunscreens are on BOGOF in Sainsburys. Ambre Solaire is half price too, but they didn't stock a baby version.

Joe1977 · 24/04/2009 07:42

Yes- M&S own brand, no reason for trying this one in particular this year, just that it was one we hadn't tried before.

BlueBumedFly · 24/04/2009 08:24

Just found my blue kids nivea. Going to try sunsense too. Had a break from lotion yesterday and in just one day DDs skin so much better!

I will be buying Ultrasun Once a Day again this year. Found it really good for ds - available from Waitrose/John Lewis

PestoDrizzleMonster · 27/04/2009 11:59

Just a thought, but if your dcs have eczema, then your GP will prescribe skin-friendly suncream and you won't have to pay for it. My DD2 gets the E45 suncream on a repeat prescription and it works a treat. (although she does look a bit ghostly after a while )

trixymalixy · 27/04/2009 21:48

Ooh, will definitely be asking for suncream on prescription. Thanks.

dancingmummy · 27/04/2009 21:58

green people do a fantastic suncream

aprilflowers · 27/04/2009 22:35

My son's ezcema is triggered by many chemical suncreans - it seems the more chemicals the more reaction
Now I use the organic natural mineral based ones
As above the Green People is great
Neals Yard lavender suncream
Dr Haushka suncream for children
are three which we have used with great success - no ezcema and high factor coverage

JoeJoe1977 · 29/04/2009 09:50

I didn't know that Neals Yard did suncream, what a great excuse reason to go shopping!

fairywave · 29/04/2009 10:10

We always use the Jason's for kids sunscreen, available in most health food stores. DD is eczema free mostly now but even when it was bad, this cream was great and seemed to be quite soothing also and not full of chemicals.

BlueBumedFly · 03/05/2009 14:39

Marl and Bran - I have tried sunsence and it was brilliant! I am off to try to get some on prescription now before it bankrupts me!

Many thanks - BBF

The green people suncream was great om my DS but this year it seems to be aggravating his exzema and he now has flared up on both his arms.
FrannyandZooey, might try the one you recommended, your post made me smile, I too try and stick to natural products and foods, yet find myself slapping on the epaderm!

JoeJoe1977 · 13/05/2009 09:03

2 weeks of using M&S own brand sun cream and DS1 has reacted, big red face on return from nursery yesterday and now all lumpy and starting to go flakey

Off shopping now to try and find sunsence.
