DD is 12mths old and severely intolerant to dairy and soya.

Have just had first appt with dietician this morning and she has advised me to try her with some egg but not egg directly iyswim.

Something like a cake which would have egg in it but need something that won't have milk/soya in.

Brain has gone to mush and can't think of anything

I thought custard powder had egg in but it doesn't seem to now looking at ingredients...

TIA

We don't know for sure if she is intolerant to egg...

Have just worked out through process of elimination that she is intolerant to all dairy and soya then had stool sample test....

Dietician seems to think it would be worth finding out if she is ok or not with egg as it would expand what she can eat as its a bit limited ATM.

Still not sure how I feel about doing it TBH

I wouldn't do it without a clear skin prick test, unless they were doing it under proper food challenge conditions in hospital.

It was the dietician telling me to try DS again on houmous after she poo pooed my suspicions that he was allergic to something in it that resulted in a trip to A&E with swollen lips and tongue.

If you do try it I would do it in the car park of your local A&E just in case.

i don't think it's worth it as egg isn't something that is in lots of things. I can't see how much it would broaden the things she can eat.

I would start with baked egg first- in cake or biscuits if you can find a recipe without milk or substitute.
far more likely to be able to tolerate than cooked eggs themselves, mayonnaise and obviously just a tiny tiny bit at first

TBH not sure if indirect testing would always help that much anyway (if what consultant told me is right anyway!). My Ds has an egg allergy but can eat eggs in other stuff. Took some convincing from consultant for me to try but he did explain the science behind it (something to do with structure of proteins changing when cooked scrambled/fried etc). Sure it's not so in every case (to be fair was only after 2 that could tolerate baked goods without vomiting/rash/face swelling) but he did say it was unusual for somemone with egg allergy to be unable to eat eggs in an indirect form. However, when under 2 i did buy a cook book called 'bakin without eggs' written by lady with daughter with many allergies. She says can substitute butter for apple sauce when cake making. Would that make it possible? Or how about trying egg on skin (this is what we've been advised to do yearly). It blisters up on my ds but goes in hour or so and much better than effect when eaten!
