Any ideas. The last one I have tried is called Organic Children, bought online. It was fine last year, but now he is itching on his neck and inside his elbow and has come up in rash again.

Have tried most of the children's sunblocks available from Boots, Tesco's etc all with the same result. He used to suffer from eczema when younger, and though this has gone now these sunblocks all seem to make it come back. We have even gone down to SPF15 with no joy.

I used nivea on my DC, no ill-effects.
Good luck!

TheSweetLittleBunny · 12/05/2008 21:49

I heard that you have to throw sunblock away after a year is this true?

Mine are allergic to Soltan (it has some nut thing in it apparently) - I use Yaoh - got it from a health shop but they sell it online www.ethicalsuperstore.com

Onlyaphase · 12/05/2008 21:57

Try Bergaderm - it is recommended for eczema sufferers. I use it on DD and she doesn't react to it as she does to some others, it needs only one application a day and is water and towel proof (within limits!). Available online or in bigger Sainsburys

My DS had exactly the same problem when he was younger - check the ingredients it turned out the my ds was allergic to lanolin which is in most sunblocks. Boots own brand does not contain lanolin and neither does Avon's sunblock. Hope this helps.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 12/05/2008 22:06

I wonder whether the Organic Children suncream is causing a reaction because I bought it last year? Should I just get a new one? Has anyone tried the E45 Sun Block?

OP posts:
amidaiwish · 12/05/2008 22:41

the only suncream i can use is Piz Buin Allergy.

DD1 seems the same - gets a red rash, like heat rash if i use any other cream and she is in the sun.

soltan and ambre solaire seem to be the worst offenders for me whatever is in them i don't know...

avenanap · 12/05/2008 22:42

P20 works very well without the itching.

TooTicky · 12/05/2008 22:44

Developed especially for people with allergies. Wonderful stuff

WendyWeber · 12/05/2008 22:49

Well, I'm not a child but do have fairly sensitive skin and don't get on with a lot of sunblocks; I have tried Ambre Solaire 50+ sensitive protection milk this weekend and it worked v well for me. (Tesco had it on BOGOF at £10.99 last week)

There is a kids' version too

anchovies · 12/05/2008 22:55

Ds and I both have very sensitive skin and find ultrasun very good. No prickly heat or allergic reaction. The reflex physical suncream one is good (but quite white!) but we are both fine with the factor 28 one too.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 13/05/2008 09:47

I have contacted Green People to get fresh samples of the Organic Children because it was really really good and smelled lovely too. I quite like the look of that Lavera Too Ticky and might try that one - but the E45 is recommended by the Eczema SOciety AND is available on prescription

The only two brands that my dd aren't allergic to(and I have tried lots) are the Nivea ones and Avon.

katz · 13/05/2008 09:52

our dermatologist recommends sunsense, which is available online

my dd2 seems to react to lots, nivea, soltan, amber solair about to try the sunsense.

MicrowaveOnly · 13/05/2008 09:55

I try and avoid sunblock on kids as I'm not convinced rubbing in all those chemicals into their skin can be a good thiing. Just cover them up. Long sleeved cool cotton and hats. Best sunscreen there is.

brimfull · 13/05/2008 09:58

I have shelves full of sunscreens that ds has reacted to that are supposedly for sensitive skin.
Bergaderm is the only one I have found that suits him.

totalmisfit · 13/05/2008 09:59

i have been wondering the same thing. dd's excema flared up horribly the other day when i put ambre solare on her. She's much better with nivea baby factor 50, still some irritation tho'.

aDad · 13/05/2008 10:00

we use the one tooticky linked to. And it is wonderful stuff.

BeauLocks · 13/05/2008 10:01

We use Simple for Kids factor 50 or 30. My dc are allergic to pretty much every other type of sun cream.

Twinkie1 · 13/05/2008 10:07

Piz Buin do a good one for people with allergies.

Have you tried Aveeno - their cream cleared up DSs excema and am just waiting on a delivery from the ILs who have got us lots from the US!

TheSweetLittleBunny · 13/05/2008 10:14

MicrowaveOnly i see your point. However the ones like Organic Children, and Lavera are natural. It's the widely available commercial ones which have skin penetrating properties that are more likely to irritate. The natural ones use titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as well as other essential oils and moisturisers - but because they don't penetrate the skin, rather they can leave a whitish sheen to the skin that reflects the sun - for cosmetic reasons people tend to opt for the skin penetrating ones, and the shops tend to stock up on those more - which is bad news for those of us who have children who are ultra sensitive.

OP posts:
TheSweetLittleBunny · 13/05/2008 10:16

I wasn't too keen on the Aveeno because it seemed to have "other stuff" in it besides the good natural things - but I see that a couple of you have mentioned it so I will take a little look see.

OP posts:
MicrowaveOnly · 13/05/2008 18:02

Interesting - can you only get aveeno in the US then? or maybe health food shops stock it?

Dragonhart · 13/05/2008 20:04

I have just tried the E45 one and it has made ds's skin awful.

Aveeno cream works wonders on his skin day to day so might try that. Where is the best place to buy it from?

Does anyone know if it is the really thick white kind as ds seems to react worse to those?

(sorry to highjack sweetlittlebunny!)
