I have dust mite allergy. It means I can't wear my big fluffy dressing gown anymore! Really wish I could as the evenings get dark and cold. Theoretically I could if I boil washed it after every wear, but it's not practical and terribly bad for the environment. Fleece is warm and sweaty, so perfect breeding ground for the little buggers.

Also can't drink alcohol. I don't miss that, just wish there was a better range of drinks out that aren't all sugary or fizzy. No one has ever invented a drinkable no alcohol wine.

What have you been sad to give up because your body hates you?

@ClementineSatsuma i know 😂 all about the small wins! We’ve been ok with the kiddilicious veggie sticks which are split pea, but similarly actual pea protein scares me a bit!

that’s incredible about tahini, we’re the same in that we’re just going to try and do as many as possible!

ClementineSatsuma · 04/10/2024 22:10

@Mushroo Yes, we eat these too! And I'm the same as you, I'm not sure if this counts for pea protein or not. So bloody confusing and even his allergist couldn't tell me for sure. They said the companies don't consistently use the same type of pea protein, so you just can't be sure what is in the products. Grr.

Mushroo · 04/10/2024 22:14

@ClementineSatsuma such a minefield isn’t it! I miss the days when I never even glanced at ingredient lists…

rainbowsparkle28 · 04/10/2024 22:15

Coeliac here 🙄
Thick gooey deep pan pizza
Doughnuts (you know the kind you get 5 in a bag from supermarket bakeries)
French baguette fresh from bakery and thick white gooey bread 😞
Twiglets
Shreddies (the irony right...)

Basically...all the gluten 😂

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/10/2024 22:18

Cream, ice cream, carbonara. Basically stuff with lots of dairy. I can manage a splash of milk in my tea, and butter and hard or aged cheese are ok, so I'm luckier than lots of dairy-intolerant people, but I miss creamy things!

ForGreyKoala · 04/10/2024 22:39

Coffee. I have gastritis, and while I can have the ocassional Americano or instant I really miss my long blacks, and a daily coffee.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 04/10/2024 22:47

Proper bread and a take away pizza. I can just about tolerate gluten free bread now, but yesterday my baked beans on gluten free toast just tasted of sadness. I miss proper cakes and biscuits too. Although the gluten free buns and gluten free croissants I practically lived on for 11 days whilst in Spain were absolutely amazing. Sadly no amount of Google searching will let me find them to order them.

Disneydatknee88 · 04/10/2024 22:59

I miss cake so much. And a decent cheese toastie. I'm gluten intolerant and they don't make bread large enough for toasties!

junebirthdaygirl · 04/10/2024 23:10

Having become gluten intolerant recently l miss being able to pick up a menu and order what l fancy instead of having to have the gluten free option whatever it is. This is especially so on holidays as at home l have learnt how to survive.
Favourite bread now is either Aldi thins ( toasted only) or McCambridge gluten free brown bread..May only be available in lreland

I have developed a nut allergy and used to eat loads of nuts. I really miss those but now M&S say nearly every dessert is not suitable for nut allergies even if it's not in the list of ingredients. I do miss some of their puddings.

Also my favourite cereal and chocolate all have nuts in.

Curries is also a biggy for me.

This is a recent allergy and I'm not happy.

KendraTheVampyrSlayer · 05/10/2024 00:14

Bread! Gorgeous crusty bread. 😩

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 05/10/2024 00:19

Bread.

Rosejasmine · 05/10/2024 07:09

A 60 degree wash kills dust mites - and if you have a frost in winter, hanging washing on the line kills them - or putting things in the freezer. So does Indorex (but nasty chemicals).
Daughter is allergic to dust mites, shellfish and Brazil nuts, easy to avoid these foods but dust mites are everywhere …

Which nuts are you allergic to? M&S is particularly bad with their labelling I think. Daughter has a very severe Brazil nut allergy and is fine with M&S puddings, but then Brazil nuts are usually only used in chocolates so we avoid certain brands of chocolate. If you’re allergic to hazelnuts ie walnuts etc that’s more of a potential contamination issue.

Tea. I miss a good cuppa even though just thinking about drinking tea makes me nauseous. It gives me migraines, which make me throw up.

Other drinks aren't the same.

Have you tried milk aid lactase tablets? Game changer. If you can manage a splash of milk, they might help you. Oldest child lactose intolerant (developed it when she was a teen out of the blue), she can eat cheese, cream - anything with the “cheese pills” as she calls them. If she forgets to take some before eating dairy it’s not pretty 😰

@Mushroo To give you a little hope, my little one outgrew their bean allergy at age 3.5 and their pea allergy at age 4. Tests on the NHS were negative and they passed challenges (would get hives before).
We're also currently doing immunotherapy for lentils in London.

Sorry, bit of a thread de-rail, but I like to spread a little hope in the gloomy allergy world!

P.S. Legumes are one of the hardest to deal with as they're in everything nowadays and not in bold, so it is a total headache. It also means we can't really eat out as we ask for the allergen menu but they don't even include legumes so what is the point?!

Yes my daughter outgrew peanut and dairy allergies but is left with Brazil nut and shellfish allergies that we are told are life long. Immunotherapy not available and challenge too dangerous according to violent skin test and high blood test results.
she’s at university now with epipens and very careful when eating out - no curries, Thai food etc. Had a chat with her about kissing boys etc who might have consumed allergens 😂. She takes epipens out with her everywhere, clubbing etc. it’s a worry but those foods are easy to avoid. Children can grow out of peanut, dairy and egg allergies which are more difficult to avoid obviously. Immunotherapy is an amazing thing - hope they develop it for shellfish and all tree nuts in future.

Getting my nails done Sad. Basically anything other than big standard shop bought nail polish. Can't get gel, acrylics or anything that requests curing.

I'm coeliac too and so miss nice bread! What's the brand that you've discovered recently, Rosie?

Juvela bread available in tesco is the best gluten free bread I've found. I've also got to avoid egg white, which is used in a lot of free from bread to replace the gluten. I'm lucky I've never really been a bread fan.

I miss toberlerone but not worth the abdominal cramps.

Klingfilm · 05/10/2024 07:51

Raw Apples, peaches and nectarines..I have that oral intolerance thing that's related to hay fever. They make my mouth swell up.. haven't had one for 6 years. Cherries are risky as well. I used to love nectarines 😭

YourFluentCrab · 05/10/2024 07:58

Ice cream and most bread. Thanks perimenopause!

Aparecium · 05/10/2024 08:15

Sitting in the sunshine. I have PMLE.

vladimirVsvolodymr · 05/10/2024 09:14

Kissing boys, I never thought of that one @Rosejasmine 😧 such a passion killer!
My son was severely allergic to eggs and dairy, so I gave up eating dairy and eggs for two years whilst breastfeeding him. He completed his dairy challenge at age 6 and only started eating eggs this year aged 11. Hopefully your kids grow out of their allergies.

Cocomummy · 05/10/2024 21:28

My one year old is allergic to peanuts, dairy, gluten, soy, lentils and eggs. I'm breastfeeding so I've given everything up. I've never been so thin in my entire life. I've also never been so miserable. I dream about crusty bread and creamy cheese. Nomo chocolate is not too bad but nothing compares. Really encouraged by the posters who said their kids have grown out of some allergies.

CrazyAndSagittarius · 05/10/2024 22:46

Going out anywhere without worry, especially in confined places, going on holiday anywhere, going to spas (which I used to absolutely love), going to the hairdressers, going for treatments. I have a fragrance allergy. And now some shops have started pumping the stuff round the air con. I won't be able go out et all soon. It's really shit.
