I have dust mite allergy. It means I can't wear my big fluffy dressing gown anymore! Really wish I could as the evenings get dark and cold. Theoretically I could if I boil washed it after every wear, but it's not practical and terribly bad for the environment. Fleece is warm and sweaty, so perfect breeding ground for the little buggers.

Also can't drink alcohol. I don't miss that, just wish there was a better range of drinks out that aren't all sugary or fizzy. No one has ever invented a drinkable no alcohol wine.

What have you been sad to give up because your body hates you?

Same as previous poster. Going anywhere without worry. DS is severely allergic to dogs. Can’t be close to them or in enclosed spaces with them. I spend hours trying to find dog free places and checking things before we go. More and more places are allowing them in and the ones that don’t usually don’t publicise it. It really limits where we can go.

Spontaneity!

My daughter has 20 food allergies some top 14 but also nightshades, alliums and coconut plus some others.

Eating out is impossible, eating food from a packet is a challenge so pretty much everything is home cooked from raw ingredients so if there's a chance we will be away from home for a meal we have to bring food with us. It's hard to do things on the fly

We follow her diet and onions, tomatoes and aubergines I miss so much. We used to eat a lot of Indian and south American foods and both are now largely off the menu.

@Mushroo I love that about the single pea! We give 3 Hippea crisps a day for chickpea tolerance 😂
While my little one passed a pea challenge, we still haven't tried pea protein as apparently this is yellow pea (split peas), and many kids who tolerate pea won't tolerate pea protein. It worries me a bit, so we may ask for the NHS to do pea protein as his next food challenge in a year.

We only started very recently with lentils, so early days. We're doing it alongside hazelnut and cashew which is great. The more the merrier if you ask me.

We did sesame last year and he now eats a spoonful of tahini a day, it's mad.

@ClementineSatsuma this is great getting multiple allergies dealt with as early as possible, I'm hoping to do the same. I assume this is private and you are charged for each food individually? I'm hoping to sort out peanuts first, and have been told it is a lot cheaper to go private now (2 yo DS) than it would be if we leave it a few years (£6k vs £18k!).

Private, yes. There's a huge reduction to do the foods together where we are i.e. about £500 for 1 food, £550 for 2, £600 for 3. That's per updose appointment.

That's so interesting about the price hike. What's that based on? I do know popularity is increasing massively and our clinic now has a waiting list.

For myself as a coeliac i really miss wandering into a bakery and just buying something fresh most gf bread is long life (unless i make it).

DS (baby) is nut allergic so we currently cannot have nuts in the house and I feel for dc1 as we used to eat lots of nuts and sesame but can’t. The food culture in the house has changed and I feel for dc1, dc2 never had them.

Being able to eat out or just grab a quick meal or sandwich. Gluten, lactose and histamine intolerance. I now understand why elderly people say they only like "plain food".

French bread!

I'm another perimenopausal gluten intolerance type.

I have found one type of tasty gluten free bread though. Amisa Vitality foccacia rolls. It's shrink wrapped and lasts ages if you don't open it.

They do do a French bread but sadly it's not as convincing.

Try Schar's frozen white rolls, 8 minutes in the oven from frozen, leave for half an hour to cool a bit, perfect crusty rolls. Even the non-GFers here can't tell the difference.

Until recently I'd have said "oh it's OK, we manage and don't miss out on much" but since he went to University I have been having a great time cooking meals we haven't had for the best part of 20 years. DS is allergic to virtually all vegetarian sources of protein so I had no real option but to cook meat for him. Since he started term we've eaten almost exclusively veggie meals and I feel so much better for it.I'd forgotten how much I enjoy meat free meals. DS certainly misses out on that as he would prefer not to eat meat for ethical reasons but it's just not feasible for him as his diet would be extremely limited.

I'm staying in a hotel with an all inclusive buffet right now and it's gluten hell. I mean, everything's labelled but there's not a lot I can actually eat except cheese and fruit!

I always preferred a substantial bread and I quite like the markses seeded GF loaf. It has egg white in but not enough to bother me the 2 or 3 times a week I eat it. I find histamine in food to be very dose dependent. I've had an horrible racing heart after eating oyster sauce or fruit cake followed by brain fog but something with a lot of citrus in or a blob of mayo "just" gives me very raw feeling guts and an upset tummy for a few days.

Oh dear @PickAChew. I did get either glutened or food poisoning yesterday though if that makes you feel any better 😂. Dearie me, allergies and intolerances do complicate holidays!

I shall put in a good word for M&S gluten free coffee and walnut cake.

Bonus as rest of my family dislike it 👍

I do miss bread, I'm another one who is gluten intolerant, also can't eat oats, anything high histamine or high oxalate, and no alcohol. I mean it could be worse, I can still eat dairy!

Onion and garlic. The smell of fried onions absolutely kills me. I do cheat a tiny bit every now and then and have garlic bread - and take an all round enzyme which makes a big difference when I have something I know is bad for me.

Bread - I've been known to stand in the bread section of Tesco as they take the bread out of the oven and just breath it in ! Why oh why is GF so bloody sweet and claggy ! I keep saying the next time I'm glutened when out I'm driving straight to KFC and stuffing my face !

I was pretty much veggie before breastfeeding my daughter but we found she's allergic to soya, eggs, pea protein, nightshades and coconut plus others. We have had to go back to meat it was impossible otherwise!
