Breakfasts without gluten, oats or dairy?

NaToth · 17/08/2021 08:55

My GP still says there is not enough evidence to refer me, but I have episodes of respiratory symptoms of unknown cause and then gluten, oats ( even gluten free oats) and dairy now give me uncontrollable diarrhoea and have to be avoided.

I've had to abandon GF porridge made with oat milk, which was my go-to breakfast, and after three days of banana on GF toast, I'm looking for alternative ideas.

Anyone?

Go continental with salami and (vegan) cheese
Eggs in one of their many forms
Fruit with dairy free yoghurt
Full English

Eggs!

Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, or bacon
Avocado and poached egg
Omelette (mushroom/ham/whatever)
Mushrooms on GF toast
Banana pancakes (dairy-free, just banana & egg)
Fruit & soy yoghurt

I am currently waiting an endoscopy, loads of stomach issues, weirdly rice krispies are all I can handle so I alternate between that and scrambledeggsand avocado. No help but I am on nexazole for the short term, they're gastro tablets and they have changed my life. Best of luckFlowers

Avocado on rye

Marmitemarinaded · 17/08/2021 09:04

Eggs are dairy

Marmitemarinaded · 17/08/2021 09:05

Sorry I meant often has same effect as dairy

stayathomer · 17/08/2021 09:05

Ps I find it strange your gp doesn't think that's enough for a referral?

cricketmum84 · 17/08/2021 09:06

I like alpro soy yoghurt with mixed berries and chopped mixed nuts

stayathomer · 17/08/2021 09:08

Marmitemarinaded
I sometimes have dairy issues and eggs are a life line for me but possibly yes as I know people who have issues with both

Well so do I to be honest, but they're not the best surgery.

I have smoothies for breakfast. Juice (usually apple) with frozen fruit/spinach/banana/avocado etc. Also throw in nuts/nut butter, seeds, dairy-free yoghurt for protein.

What about breakfast chia pudding? I absolutely love it.

This is one of my favourite recipes for breakfast chia pudding, but I omit the sugar as I don’t like too sweet, or eating it that time in the morning (it is maple syrup in this one). I also just use cashew milk instead of almond and coconut milk, for ease:

minimalistbaker.com/peanut-butter-and-jelly-chia-pudding/

I make a batch in advance so I have it for breakfast the week. I eat it with sliced bananas on top.

I think someone suggested rye above, rye is one of the gluten grains (I’m coeliac). If you’re omitting gluten, you can’t have rye, wheat or barley.

BUT if you’re going to get tested for coeliac, you need to keep eating gluten until you get the test or else it won’t show up.

Eggs are dairy
No they're not! Dairy means from milk.

Seconds later I later I clarified

My fav if I’m organised the night before is sweet potato, cooked in oven night prior with herbs and brocolinni and enough for a few days, then reheat for breakfast in frypan with mushrooms, spinach leaves and stock. Sometimes add bacon, and usually serve with hummus. Sometimes add toast (plenty of gluten free options) but sweet potato makes it filling.

It sounds a bit weird but I got the idea from a fashionable cafe I went to for breakfast once.

Marmitemarinaded · 17/08/2021 09:17

Heck veggie sausages are brilliant

NeverTalkToStrangers · 17/08/2021 09:17

Sautéed spinach goes well with eggs. Mushrooms are great but take such a long time to cook - I’d maybe batch cook them and freeze in portions. Smoked salmon is excellent but pricy for every day.

How do you cook mushrooms? I slice mine and cook them in a frypan with a bit of oil, and sometimes a splash of stock and some pepper, only takes a few mins 😁

Fruit
rice pudding - like porridge but made with rice and dairy free milk. Brown rice is healthier and make it before as it takes time.
Omelettes and frittatas.
Skip breakfast, have a tea or coffee then have leftovers or whatever you want for brunch.
Eat whatever you want. Other cultures eat soup, salad and curry for breakfast.

Alpro Soy Yogurt (plain, unsweetened) is surprisingly lush. I have it because I'm on WW and it's really low in points.

I don't like soy stuff usually, but it's gorgeous. I'd have it with berries (I like the frozen berries, defrosted and warm from the microwave).

Can you eat eggs? If so, look up the 2-ingredient pancake recipe. It's just an egg mixed with a mashed banana, then fried like little pancakes. Sooo nice.

AlbertBridge · 17/08/2021 09:36

Sorry - soya, not soy.

SimonJT · 17/08/2021 09:39

I tend to have scrambled eggs, spinach and roasted peppers, or scrambled eggs with black beans, or frozen berries, seeds and dairy free yoghurt.

CrotchetyQuaver · 17/08/2021 09:39

I just want to throw this in the mix. I developed all of your symptoms and wondered what the hell was going on with me. Various tests at the hospital, nothing found.
It turned out it was all down to an under active thyroid and once that was treated effectively, all went back to a very happy normal where I can trust my bowels again. Mind you, I had to pay to see a private functional medicine doctor privately to fix myself.

DelphiniumBlue · 17/08/2021 09:44

Bacon & tomatoes is nice.
If I'm short of time, sometimes I just have nuts for breakfast, eg roasted almonds.
You could have some sort of hash brown- diced potatoes fried up with peppers, spinach, onion, anything you like really.
Shakshuka is yummy - tomatoes cooked with spices, black olives, feta cheese if you can eat it, and lots of parlsey.

Jasmine11 · 17/08/2021 09:51

Berries, nuts and coconut yoghurt? A full english without the toast (but check that sausages and black pudding are oat and gluten free)? Leftovers from the previous evening?
Hope you can get to the bottom of your health issues!
